Impressive restoration of a framing slick. But even more importantly, you have an awesome collection of vintage tools. I’m envious. Also, thank you for using nothing but tool sounds, no insipid music to detract from the sweet sound of tools in an artist’s hands.

A draw knife is designed to be used with the bevel down, not up. This allows you to easily control the depth of cut. Also use it in a slicing cut, at an angle of 30 degrees or greater to give a much smother cut than the scraping cut that you were using. The thing makes the work go much faster and easier. I enjoyed the video.

@@ChopWithChris One of my grandfathers was among other things a farmers blacksmith as was my great grandfather on my mothers side of the family. I was exposed to a lot of old tools and ways of keeping farm equipment going. That may have been why I chose tooling and engineering as a career when I got old enough to have a clue as to what I wanted to do with my life. No regrets other than I wish I had had more time to learn the old ways from them. I like your approach to your videos as will as the things that you do. I wish the best for you and your family --

Your foot-pedal lathe and use of a hacksaw and file are admirable. It's also nice to see a blacksmith using his hands and an anvil. Good to see you treating that old tool with respect by carrying it in a padded case. That piece of cherry-wood has a nice grain for "whittling". So cool to get exercise whilst you save utility costs too. You must have very strong legs? Was that a leather pad to hone the finished chisel? Great restoration project there. Congrats. The big chisel could be ideal for de-barking logs too?

Holy cow, you are a master! I love the double swell of the handle. I admit to thinking the blade was a lost cause, but you saw it’s potential shine through the pits and uneven surface. In the end it doesn’t actually matter if the face of the steel is pitted, because the very edge is doing all the work and the rest just glides over the wood.

Nicely done. I love these old tool restorations. I restored a bench top hand cranked grinding wheel (6”)it works, it operates smoothly,,,,, but it’s not the best designed tool. Using it the hand crank is too close to the stone and the stone is too small to hold any inertia long enough to do any work. So you get it up to speed and then get a few seconds of sharpening done and it’s back to hand cranking it back up to speed. I suppose I could get a friend to crank as I use the tool but that kinda defeats the purpose. I am still proud of it.....

Nice work, that was great 👍 I'm no wood turner, but in high school I recall adding those decorative rings around handles and table legs etc, and rather than cutting them in with a chisel we wrapped some tie wire around the back of the workpiece and then pulled lightly on both ends of the wire such that it burnt a recessed ring into the timber.

I’ve never tried that method but I need to.

The chisel restoration was fantastic. I love word work and the craftsmanship behind it was extremally interesting and all of it without electricity. I have made table lamps and other furniture......so keep up the great word work.. David Scofield

Saludos
