Thanks for the review Tom! I just wanted to clarify one thing, the 1-8 and 1-10x Banshee features ED glass which minimizes chromatic aberrations. So it might confuse some that noticed chromatic aberration in this video. The 1-6x market is so competitive that we had to forgo that for now as it would allow us to keep the price extra low, but we will have a 1-6x model later on that will come with ED glass as well!

Love your comparison videos! This is the 3rd Monstrum vs X I've seen, the other two were the Banshee vs Sig and the Panzer vs Vortex. Of the three, this is the first time I've noticed Monstrum to have worse chromatic abberation (and in this case, there was a lot of purple). Even with that, they're still giving at least 90% visual quality (probably better than that), at a fraction of the cost. I've got a couple of their Banshees, and another even cheaper off-brand 1-4 I picked up a couple years ago off Classic. They're good enough for me. I see people talking about durability, but I haven't seen that the budget ones fail... and I'm a regular civilian plinking and shooting at targets, I'm not beating my gear to death. Like I said, for my uses, they're good enough for me. I like that you've mentioned they are still holding zero. That's really the big thing. The clarity and brightness are enough for the average joe, as long as they don't lose zero. I'm going to mount one of the Banshees on a C308 (Cetme with a rail on top), another on an AR 10. I figure if anything will knock them off zero, the Cetme would be the one to do it. We shall see.

Let's say a decent mount is $50- that puts these 2 optics 500 bucks apart. Today PSA is offering a complete AR with Magpul furniture and a polished mil spec trigger for $499. Toss the Monstrum on that rifle and you'll have a complete decent setup for the cost of just the next level optic- which practically speaking isn't really "next level- and the PSA will keep up, too.

Thank you for this. If I just had one or two rifles (but come on, who just has one or two rifles), I probably wouldn'tgive this Optic a second thought, but when you have 10+ rifles, putting a Vortex on each one gets too expensive. Yes, you can swap your scope from rifle to rifle, but then you have to spend time re-zeroing, which is time and money. This gives you a better option with plenty left over for ammo.

You have produced great comparison videos that will enable the end user to evaluate what they are getting for the money. With that said it cannot be overstated that the value of the clarity of the glass is an extremely important feature. Not so much with getting hits on target but more importantly seeing where you are missing to make corrections. What was not measured was the quality of the tracking of the reticle and that of the turrets. It’s also worth noting that turrets that do not have a solid lock up and are mushy will degrade over time. Country of origin is also an important factor to consider. The Viper PST is made in the Philippines, where they have a solid reputation for producing a good quality scope. 600 dollars is a fair price to pay for a product that is well built and is considered by many to be the leader in its price group. I would rather pay a fair price for a great product than get a great deal on a fair product.

I bought a Banshee because of you. I have 0 rounds through it, but really appreciate the quality of light, clarity, and build quality. 👍 My 1-10x24 scope has the MX-1 reticle, which I see as more of a close range EOTECH reticle than a cleaner long range reticle, and interestingly, the red/green illuminatation does not have off-settings between on settings. What I look for in a product is value for the money. If a manufacturer said "Ok, we will knock $200 off, but there will be some chromatic aberration around the edges," I would say THANK YOU! And then "Hey, for knocking off another $200.....how about making it so that I can't read the bottom 3 lines on an eye chart, but I can still see small bullseyes at 100 yards?" Then when they say "Sure," I would buy that scope on the SPOT!!! Of course if I am spending $700 on a scope and mount, I don't expect that scope to have these deficiencies. But to save $400 or more......I think I can put up with them. You know how much ammo that buys?

@@dsxz yeah I know I did the research. and I felt that thats not a problem for me I finally got it in soon I plan on taking it out to 300 but I did take it out to 100. and it was working good I also did some close bill drill and at 1x it works great and at 10x it seems good at 100. didn't go into extensive testing due to bad weather but I plan on checking if there is any deviation of the zero from 1x to 10x but so far so good. and honestly I am surprised for a $200 optic it not the best clarity but it works great and considering what it cost it's phenomenal and also when it's raining no water got in the optic so it is waterproof to an extent. but I do recommend it for anyone who want a decent optic for cheep and I am sure that their 1-6 and 1-8's are great to like I said I plan on doing more testing soon and I will comment again on what I find in terms of problems and such. but one problem is that its not quite daylight bright its not bad since its second focal plane and if it bright enough where you cant see the red or green reticle the black crosshair is visible enough where it works fine. but like I said still great for the price at least from what I have found like I said I'll do some more testing and will get back here to tell my findings so others can decide to get one or not.

I like the Monstrum micro magnifiers. Other than lacking qd they're competitive. The flip to side function on the Monstrum magnifiers is better than most in its price range and comparable to the more expensive magnifiers. The glass isn't quite as bright and sharp as the best more expensive magnifiers that I've used but it's reasonably competitive and totally usable. I think they're a surprisingly good value.

I've had the Banshee 1-6 with the big MX1 MOA reticle for a while. It's really fast on target at 1X , like a really good red dot. The red square with the small red dot in the center is great close up and at long range. I wanted a second one for another rifle. Then i got an email from Monstrum about a deal on the new Daylight Bright 1-6 Banshee. Comparing them, I like the old MX1 a little better, because it's faster in low light at 1X. The daylight Bright has wider reticle lines, that can cover up tiny targets. But make it fast at 1X. Looking closer at the dot, I can just make out the ends of three or four optical fibers. Redundancy? The red filber dot is going on my long range AR and I'm going to try the MX1 Banshee on a 9mm PCC.

@@Moondog2A They are fat on the outside and thinner in the middle with none touching the little center Dot. It's easy to hold on a small target. I noticed the bottom section of the fat reticle on the new scope was covering up my red Laser Dot on targets out at 20 to 50 yds. In Low light, I put the Laser in Flashing mode and it didn't help. By tweaking the Laser off zero a tad, I can see it clearly in the scope. It's a low pwr Laser that holds zero well. Making it easier to get a useful zero, when I swap scopes or RDSs around. thanks Moondog for the introspective review, I bought a Banshee and its coming in soon! There is a question that I have in regards to the diameter of the throw lever on the Banshee. Great out of the box review. I'd like to see the turrets spun out to max and then brought back to zero a few times to see how well they return. Also durability is another question that comes to mind. How well do they handle recoil, being dropped, lense scratch resistance....... The 2 seem faily close out of the box, but how do they stack up down the road? I prefer to buy once, cry once, but if a product a 1/4 the price can stand up to the higher price products.

I’ve had Monstrum stuff for years. I like them for range toys and testing stuff. They work fine enough. especially for the price. HOWEVER. here’s what happens with the lower price tiers : 1. They are not weather sealed like vortex or other “name brands”. They say they are. But no. Not even close. After a few years you will see mold forming. (2 of 10 Monstrum optics I’ve had formed mold within 6 years). 2. 1 of the 10 Monstrum optics … the reticle has started rotating inside the tube. Monstrum fixed it. But I’m also not surprised it happened (and it’s been on a .22lr rifle). That said. Would I buy Monstrum again? You betcha. Decent company. Good price. And for what they sell … as long as you not dreaming unrealistic goals … they good products 2.

I certainly like the Monstrum products. I have a SFP scope, but looking over the on-line manual for the Spectre & Banshee 1-10, you don't get the subtension information in the reticle shown in the manual. As far as I can tell, it's nowhere to be found on their website. I e-mailed support and was told to look on the product page. It lists the MOAs but not the corresponding yardage values for the 5.56 calibrated reticle. I'm not in any way pleased with their support & product documentation.

compare a crimson trace hardline 1-10 or 1-8 to the PST next , i bought one a while ago have been impressed so far , i don't think the glass is as great as the PST but it ain't far behind its like 96% of the viper

Sorry but the Viper was a loaner, I had to return it. But if I pick up a Crimson Trace in the future, I'll compare it to the Banshee. Hope you subscribed.

Pre-watching the test, I suspect the Vortex will be shaper and slightly brighter. The brightness will not be as great as it should be given the cost difference. But the sharpness will be.

I think its hard to tell with a small sample size which one has greater value. I think there is a fairly good baseline for the life of a Vortex over an extended period of time but not of the Monstrum. Also. How durable is it. Can it be dropped or knocked around for a bit. If it’s as durable you hope, then the difference might be negligible and the Monstrum might be the better buy. But if its used over a longer period of time and starts showing problem, then the price difference is not as great since the value you arent getting out of the Monstrum doesn’t justify going the budget route.

I'm torn... I'm actually going back and forth between the vortex viper pst 1-6 gen 2, Primary Arms slX 1-6 Nova gen 4, Hi-Lux CMR 1-8, Monstrum Banshee 1-6 BDC-C1, and Vector 1-6 Continental Tactical. That was my preference order before I watched this video. Leaning toward the monstrum now, but if you can compare any of these to the monstrum in your next video, I would truly appreciate it.

I don't know about the Vector but the Nova and Monstrum are on par in features and a better value than the Viper, IMHO.

Sorry for the possible dumb question but why not put the Vortex strike eagle 1-6 head to head with the Monstrum considering that the price point for that is always around $199 if shopped around? Seemed an even more apples to apples comparison if I’m not missing anything?

Fair point. Though the Strike Eagle is for sure NOT daylight bright. Its equivalent match is the Monstrum Banshee BDC-B1 not this C-1

Back then it was "will it hold zero". Now days it is "is it sharp and clear". Id buy 3 monstrums and give one to my dad, and my favorite inlaw for the vortex price.

For 4-5x as much as the banshee the viper is no where near 4-5x better. Monstrum is the clear choice unless you’re a gear queer 🤷🏾‍♂️
