Bull. The early 2000s had the same rules but with bigger and faster players. The rules were changed starting in 2006 to benefit Manning, because the Patriots were beating the crap out of him. The real difference is that Montana played in the pre-salary cap era, where wealthier teams like the 49ers could put together super teams like the 84 and 89 Niners, which are top to bottom some of the best constructed teams of all time.

here's the part where I embarrass you. Because obviously you don't watch much football. The New England patriots are known cheats especially when they play at home, Foxboro, did you know that? Nope. It's funny to read the comments of patriots fans, it's exactly what you would expect to read. Watch this - documents most of the patriots tactics on cheating - they're filled with scandals. Anyone who's played against them know this. My uncle worked in their organization for 5 years under the Bill B. Administration and he's always known that they're being fined/suspended players for cheating. ESPN has commonly talked about it... where you been? This is what makes Montana the GOAT. No scandals. His rings and stats are real and earned, not by cheating. Montana played in a real era, tough era, with the best defenses of all time. 85 bears, 86 giants, redskins etc. Those defenses had no salary cap to stack against Montana. The rules were different, back then the QB got smeared every play, hit hard, and DBs could fight for INTs. Todays era is soft and easy, it's called the passer friendly era, if you study football then you already know this. That's why todays QBs stats are inflated. So the argument that Brady's stats are higher is irrelevant due to all this. If he played back then, he wouldn't last as long and his stats would be lower. Not to mention the cheating. This is no-longer an argument anymore. And it really should be Bradshaw/Montana vs Brady. They disrespect Bradshaw way too much. Here’s why they shouldn’t... Terry Bradshaw remains the ONLY QB to win not just 4 Super Bowls in 6 seasons (Brady has won 4 in the last 7 seasons) but he’s also the only QB to win back-to-back Super Bowls...twice. That’s huge. Brady has yet to do that and he’s played in a record 10 Super Bowls, which proves just how unique of feat Bradshaw’s run was then, and certainly now. Having said all of that, I rank Tom Brady as the Greatest NFL player of all time. He’s the best QB I’ve ever seen, and we won’t see the likes of him for a very long time. Think about this...Patrick Mahomes will have to win 7 Super Bowls to eclipse Tom Brady’s current total. That’s a lot to expect but possible. It’ll greatly depend on his health, and the strength of the Chiefs organization moving forward. To me Bradshaw represented the standard of having the ultimate team for a decade built solely through the NFL Draft which will never be duplicated again. The ‘70’s Steelers were a Super Bowl Hybrid. Montana represented the ultimate individual on very good teams with his 3 Super Bowl MVP’s and ZERO Super Bowl INT’s, which remains extremely remarkable. He’s the style-points QB with results to go with it. He’s Joe Cool. The 49ers represent how an organization can change, innovate, win and demonstrate it can also be done with trades, free agency, and even coaching and QB changes. They weathered change to absolute perfection and that made a difference with Montana soon after; QB Steve Young. What leveled-up Tom Brady to GOAT status was his commitment to personal excellence regarding longevity (via a Jordan-esque razor focus regarding the art of winning) complimented by a very focused organization that was hell-bent on dominating their specific division, their specific conference, and the league itself for nearly 20 years and 9 Super Bowl appearances. Brady’s engineered 34-28 OT Super Bowl victory over the reeling Falcons will not only go down as the gold standard of playing 60+ minute football, but it remains, in my opinion as the greatest Super Bowl of all-time. The general rule was that teams getting destroyed in Super Bowls early-on stay destroyed/beaten when it’s over. Not any more. Tom Brady winning it all in Tampa Bay removed any and all remaining and severely flawed arguments, void of any critical thinking, that he’s nothing more than a push-button QB in New England. He’s now succeeded with two teams, and as ESPN’s Chris Berman always says: “once is coincidence; two is a trend.” He’s right and Brady is the GOAT.

@@trevmac8362 Nope. I had plenty of the shanty Irish homes to visit in southwest Chicago and the head of the household usually worked for the city in some capacity. I once told a native Pittsburgher that I thought of his city and Chicago as rather similar regarding culture. He agreed. In my experience if an average Bears fan had a AFC team they liked, it was usually Pittsburgh for some reason. I watched Pittsburgh because they were usually on NBC every Sunday and had at least 2-3 MNF games which is how I became an immediate fan when they won Super Bowl XIV. So you’re Dad liked Lambert? Well who could blame him? I grew up with friends who idolized both Jack’s (Lambert & Ham) largely because we were too young to ever see Duck Butkus play and Mike Singletary was merely a a unknown rookie who would later grab our undivided attention all the way to Canton. Lambert was something else to watch play. I can still picture his legs running in place, like pistons in an engine, before the snap. Was is it with Kent State and Steeler linebackers? First Lambert, then eventually James Harrison…crazy. Still though the LB group I liked the best was Lloyd, Kirkland, Brown and of course Kevin Greene. They should have won that Super Bowl in Tempe, AZ. Only Super Bowl, to this day, in which I walked away very angry, but that’s a story for another day.

I hate Brady and the Pats, but there's no denying they're the greatest dynasty in the history of the league at this point. The 4-0 thing is a huge reach on the part of people who just don't want to admit it. It doesn't hold water if you think about it for even a second. This question is settled. Move on to Moss v Rice for ample argument fodder.

The Pats are the greatest Dynasty in history of the NFL, that's not deniable (barring cheating conversations). But that is not one and the same as saying Brady is the greatest of all time. Those are two different statements. I think there's a stronger argument for saying Belicheck is the greatest of all time, than Brady. Afterall, the Pats have kept winning even when Tom has been sidelined: over a 70% winning percentage with Cassel, Brissett and Garappollo. They've kept winning when Gronk has been sidelined, when central talents have been suspended, and so on. Belicheck has been the constant mad man at the heart of it all. And, last I checked, they did not win either the 2001 or 2018 season SB vs the Rams with passing offense - especially this last one. It's a team game, and Tom has been a good teammate with incredible longevity. That does not make him the GOAT. I think that conversation should be about the coach, and comparing Belicheck to the other legendary coaches.

Montana and Brady are the best of their era's. Today's game is drastically different than what is was in the 80's... almost impossible to compare the 2 QB's. It would be interesting to see how Brady's career would've turned out if he played in the 80s...and Montana in the 2000s. The complaint about QBs getting hit more in "tougher" 80's makes no sense for other reasons: First, Joe ran the WCO, which is predicated on getting the ball out quicker with a lot of high-percentage throws. Even if the rules meant more QB hits back then, Walsh's offense was designed to mitigate that. Second, the League ran the ball more often in general in the 80s than they do now, which means every time the QB hands the ball off on a running play is another play where the QB doesn't get blasted in the pocket.

They did, just bc they passed the ball less doesn’t mean they didn’t get punished when they did pass. Not saying it’s a feasible argument but if you watch the hits Theisman, Montana and Elway used to take you’d see a lot of stuff that would be a penalty marker today.
@peteg475
@peteg475 5 жыл бұрын
@@cormel6895 Watch his most recent vids which debunk what you're saying. it's simple common sense to say that if a QB drops back 50 times, he's putting himself in more danger than if he's playing in the 1970s and only drops back and throws 20 times. It doesn't matter if more questionable hits draw flags now. Because these hits still happen, and a legal sack is still hard-hitting and tough, and can potentially cause injury, and defensive players are bigger and faster now. Joe isn't "tougher" than Brady just because he got hurt playing the position. Somehow Marino and Elway didn't get hurt to the degree that Montana did, despite playing in the same "tough" era. Brady's been beat up in plenty of games over 19 years (notably Super Bowl 42, among many others) and he's never flinched.
@cormel6895
@cormel6895 5 жыл бұрын
Pete G I understand what you’re saying but multiple Hall of Famers have co-signed my claim. Receivers used to get clotheslined looking for a pass & QBs used to get hit ways which would draw a flag nowadays. The rule doesn’t make QBs immune to these things but it makes it far less likely because players don’t want to cost their teams an opportunity at winning ball games. Nobody said anything about who’s tougher but if we’re going to talk about toughness they both are fragile as hell, Brady just goes down clean...Montana wasn’t as fortunate. Imo Eli is the toughest QB of the past decade but that doesn’t correlate to wining so it’s not a big factor. But you must admit it’s easier to pass when defenders are reluctant to take you down...and your career lasts much longer.

Let me ask you this, how many 20th century quarterbacks played in a SB at the age of 40? Do you get a tuck rule to get you started? Do you get a top 10 defense for 17 seasons? Will the QB be taking huge pay cuts his whole career? If this QB leads his offense to 13 points in 2 SBs does he still get the W like Brady did in SB 36 and SB 53? Does this QB's D get him a pick at the one yard line in a SB to give him the W? Does this QB get to play avg in many playoff games but still get the W because of his defense and a helluva lot of good fortune?

@@seanc.5310 this is a comparison of the quarterbacks of two generational great head coaches. And today's NFL allows for the good QBs to play into their 40s like it's nothing. If not for the change of the sport, Brady would have been out of his playing days by the time he wins his 5th and 6th. So compare all you want, it's not really ever going to be an even comparison. It's going to be opinionated mostly. Take one of the actually great talent quarterbacks to ever play the game and put him on a team with one of these generational coaches and they'd simply be the greatest ever, and probably by far. But the fact is, the best ever talents at the position didn't have given to them what these two had given to them. The fact that these two played for teams that kept right along winning when they weren't on the field should tell you, this isn't a comparison of the greatest ever to play the sport, but simply the better of the ones that were given the greatest opportunities. Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry...these were all generational coaches that had a good quarterback that was at one time considered the best ever...was it more the quarterback that made the coach, or more the coach that made the quarterback? I'm going to go with the coaches making the quarterback.

I honestly think that most Brady haters deep inside their souls know that Brady is the greatest but are too bitter at him kicking their favorite teams ass over and over again to admit it that they come up with billions of excuses for why he has been so inexplicably successful in a league that tries to make it harder and harder to sustain success.I mean why did people hate the Yankees back when they were winning? why did people hate the Cowboys in the 90s? why do people hate Alabama football and Duke basketball? why do people hate Manchester United and Real Madrid? because they have all kicked other peoples favorite teams asses one time too many. I mean I get the hate, but people need to stop lying to themselves too.

Fact is, it's all about geography and division. Back when the Yankees were kicking ass on the field and on the payroll, everybody hated them, unless they are from New York. And the Red Sox are their rivals, so when they started winning everybody from New York hated them for taking their top spot in recent years. The Cowboys of the 90s? Every New York Giant fan hated them. Same way about Jets fans and Patriots fans, the Boston/New York rivalry is skin deep. It's not about their hatred for Brady. It's that they can't even stand him. here's the part where I embarrass you. That's why he's won so often and has stayed around so long. Montana > Brady.

Brady was a statue, he couldn't move and was like watching paint dry. Montana could do it all, the pin point passing from the pocket or on the run and was very mobile and elusive. Even in the 90 Champ game Joe rolled out and GOAT LB Taylor was coming for him and Joe made him miss just before Marshall got there and smashed him from the blindside. Montana was poetic and fun to watch. How many times did Brady have drives extended because of ticky tack roughing the passer, pass inference or D holding calls? Joe never had drives extended because his helmet was grazed by a hand or a DB had a little contact down field, I mean sure there was the odd time a bad call would be made by officials but as a rule that kind of crap didn't happen, unlike today where it's the norm for ticky tack calls to be made. Look at that 2018 AFC Champ game vs the Chiefs and Chris Jones gets called for roughing the passer for giving Brady a little pat on the chest. That's just one example of many I can name. There is no way I would take Brady over Montana...no way in HELL...and in fact would take not only Montana but several other QBs over Brady. Roger Staubach is one of those QBs, Brady might have 7 rings to Staubach's 2 rings but Staubach was only a starter for 8 short seasons and was concussed 20 times during his career playing smash mouth football. Brady plays 22 seasons and retires without a damn thing wrong with him, no concussion issues or shoulder issues or knee issues or elbow issues, etc. In 2008 he took that love tap from Bernard Pollard and tore an ACL and then Brady had a rule named after him, other than that no health issues to speak of whatsoever after playing until 44 years old for 22 friggin seasons in the league. When the NFL was REAL no QB got away with playing into their 40's and coming out of it unscathed. Terry Bradshaw won 4 SBs in his 20's, suffered an elbow injury and retired at 35 years old. Joe Montana won 4 SBs, his last at 33 years old, suffered numerous injuries and retired at 38 years old. Troy Aikman won 3 SBs and suffered numerous concussions and retired at 35 years old. Staubach won 2 SBs and suffered 20 concussions and retired at 38 years old. John Elway won 2 SBs was beat up and retired at 38 years old. Bart Starr won 2 SBs and had shoulder and arm issues and retired at 38 years old. Steve Young won a SB and suffered multiple concussions and retired at 38 years old. There is no way in hell that Brady could have played 20th century ball into his 40's and won a SB, never mind 2 SBs and ANYONE who thinks otherwise is DELUSIONAL.

Yes, the quarterbacks of the past had it tougher. Still, I am glad for better rules for player safety and Brady is a testament to those rules working (though the ticky tacky stuff goes too far and can be looked at). I saw in a John Madden documentary that John was a big part at looking at the the football safety rules , which is interesting and good, since his own Raiders were known for rough play. But, no, I don't like what happened to some of my favorite quarterbacks like Joe Theisman, Jim McMahon, and yes Joe Montana when he was hit by Leonard Marshall. If football is a sport, care must be taken to avoid bodily harm to each other.
@HP_____
@HP_____ 3 жыл бұрын
In the earlier days, people kept knocking on Brady's first 3 Super Bowls because of Belichick's defense and the superb veteran players a la Seymour, Bruschi, Ty Law, etc.... Ok, let's delete those first 3 rings and Brady can STILL make a case to be the greatest of all time because he would still have 4 rings and three SB appearances. And in those 9 seasons of SB dry spell (2005-2013) Brady actually had the best statistical seasons of his career including one record breaking season in 2007. He had to carry those teams when all the veterans started to retire. Just those 8 active seasons alone (not counting his injured 2008 season) would earn him a gold jacket in Canton. And from 2014 onward it's like a second HoF career. If Brady plays one more season after 2021, he would have 21 active starter seasons, not counting his 2000 rookie season and 2008 injured season. You can make a case for him having THREE hall of fame careers, each in a 7 season period! From 2001 to 2007, that's 7 seasons of 3 rings and 1 SB appearance including one of the greatest statistical seasons ever in 2007. From 2009 to 2015, that's 7 seasons of 1 ring (2014) and 1 SB appearance (2011), his physical prime and pretty much carrying the team. From 2016 to present, soon to be 6 seasons that includes the greatest comeback in SB history in 2016, more rings in 2008 and 2020. A late renaissance. Another tip bit, Brady's career as a Patriot has played more games and won more games and championships than Joe Montana and Steve Young combined as 49ers! If he wins another Super Bowl, he would obliterate any shred of doubt of him being the greatest ever, full stop.

Montana just had that second level that I’ve never seen Tom on. Yes, Brady has more Superbows, but he’s played in a time where there were no other great teams, not to mention he’s played much longer.

But, but, but Tom Brady never had a blowout win in a Super Bowl like Joe Montana. | Tom gets a blowout win and wins SB MVP "It was all the Tampa Bay defense" | For a blowout to occur, the defense must also play well................... Evidently, Montana played defense.

@@WhiteWolfBitcoin I enjoy dumb haters like you, and how tom shuts them up every single time. But it is relaly funny to what lengths you folks go, if anything you can blame BB for spygate and not brady, as for deflategate he was proven innocent in court, those balls where nor deflated, but yea keep ignoring facts so you can keep hating.

Brady is 100% GOAT an Patriots have been the most dominating team for 19 years. Been to the superbowl 11 times more an any other team an won 6, we did this in just Toms career. That is 100% GOAT status. Tom an the Pats will got for #7 superbowl wins to beat the Steelers.
