Imagine you are a dragonfly, peacefully minding your own business, stretching your wings in the calm morning air. You are a marvel of flight. You master the sky and no pray can escape you. You can hover in the air, fly smoothly backwards, up down left right, roll whatever with a smoothness and speed unrivalled in nature. Birds get you by surprise, not skill. With almost highway speed and pristine vision you stalk the riverbank of Kile. But then, thanks to your superhuman reaction you notice something on the horizon quickly approach you. A giant bird, much much faster than any before. The instant you notice it you scurry back to the river bank, hide in the reed. But you are too slow. It catches up to you, quickly. Just as you reach the protective reed stalks you see it turn, slowly arcing away from you. It's no longer heading toward you, you are safe. The big bird now has its back towards you, glowing purple menace. You can even feel its heat. Then all of a sudden it hits you. A gigantic shockwave, breaking your wings, your magnificent shell and everything tumbles. Water and bits of reed spray around you. Deathening, roaring thunder soars through everything you ever knew, ripping it apart. It tears into your flesh, blinding pain erupts everywhere. Almost as quickly as it began, the chaos and thunders subsides, leaves you dangling in the wind. Your ears are no more and everything hurts. You realize that you are dying. As you tumble toward the ground, your wings broken, your blood oozing through the cracks in your beautifull shell you catch a last glimpse of the bird that destroyed everything. Now, far away on the horizon, it disappeares behind a riverbend, its tail still glowing in fierce colours, fainter now. The world around you darkens as your heart makes its final beat.

Perhaps some supplementary rocket engines with high TWRs, such as the Vector (with its TWR of 23.87), or the lightweight Twitch (with its TWR of 19.34), would've helped in getting those supersonic jet engines back into the speeds where their TWR is optimal (which is Mach 3 for the Whiplash's optimal TWR of 21.90, and Mach 3.75 for the Rapier's optimal TWR of 23.74), after losing so much speed on those tighter turns (especially the sharp ones around 5:50)?

I figure the fairing occlusion stops leading edge heating from blowing up your cockpit or wings, but how do you stop the engines from overheating? I've been trying to make planes that can hit mach 5 (1500 m/s, whichever comes first) near sea level, but so far I haven't been able to hold it for more than a few seconds before the engine explodes, and often they explode well before that point, usually around 1450 m/s.

@@laszlosauve1877 Sort of, he's more than fast enough enough to destroy the vehicle with heat, but he doesn't stay at top speed long enough. Anything above 1500 m/s can overheat a plane, especially at low altitude. I've lost several SSTO's at 20,000 meters at lower speeds than his max at 1600m/s. If he used the rapier I think the top speed would be pretty comparable, which is why I highlighted the engine efficiency over the top speed. His land speed records, show this rather interestingly. It didn't look like he had any heat shield on his first run around 1500 m/s. A small heat shield on the second around 1650 m/s. and a whole bunch of shielding and sacrificial parts when he hit escape velocity in the most recent attempts Acceleration though would be faster with the rapier especially at the speeds he's running at. It's why he used that engine in the shorter course, he didn't need anywhere near as much fuel, and the track had more turns, so the higher acceleration would have a greater impact on the time.
@laszlosauve1877
@laszlosauve1877 3 жыл бұрын
@@cbudzynski I've tested some things for do my submission and I realised that the heat would be a huge problem at high speed.
