I love watching you and your family. I briefly taught at a Montessori school, but I am a public school elementary music teacher. I have a suggestion for your singing time. Children as young as your daughter can only sing comfortably a certain range of notes. Try singing higher in your singing voice to demonstrate to her what her singing voice should sound like. It will help in here musicality. I'm not sure if this is something you care about or not, but I found it hard for the children at the Montessori preschool to sing along because the teacher sang too low. Thank you for sharing! One day when I have a child, I want to adopt a Montessori at home approach.

I loved this- especially having a globe during the continents song. The kids at the "Montessori" school I taught at could recite things like the continents and oceans, but they never had access to globes or a map. It was all rote memorization. I would LOVE to see how you would adapt the lesson on meeting someone new for today. Obviously, a lot of people aren't going to be comfortable shaking hands for a while, but that doesn't mean you won't have some real-world applications (such as meeting a subscriber- socially distanced) at a store. (Personally, I think some basic ASL would be a great alternative to handshaking. You can certainly sign "Hi... nice to meet you" from a safe distance. [Of course, this is coming from someone who automatically signs "Thank you" when out in public haha]). One of my biggest concerns with everything that's happening nowadays is balancing teaching children etiquette with social distancing and safety measures. How do you work on sharing, cooperation, and taking turns when each child has their own set of materials so things aren't being passed back and forth? Obviously, you have two children so they're constantly working on those skills. However, many families don't have that.

Your channel has become invaluable to someone like me. I come here, as a "late mom" (having babies in my mid 30's) and watching this channel keeps me in the loop and gives incredible ideas and suggestions that I might not have time to read about in a book. I'd heard of Montessori and seen the schools around but never knew how the schooling was different from others. As someone with little experience with kids and mothering, this channel has a dearth of great information that I've been using to become the type of hands-on mom I'd hoped to become. Thank you Happa Family (and your babies are so sweet ❤️🎀😇)

I’ve learned so much about Montessori at home from you. I’m a psychologist and worked in a creative curriculum preschool for several years. I’m familiar with circle time and incorporated it with your Montessori methods at the start of the pandemic with my twins who were 20mos. I added lots of props to help engage them- they loved using homemade binoculars that they made for checking the weather! Thank you for all of the tips and sharing your hard work.

What a cool video! I'm curious about if you do this on weekends as well, which someone else mentioned. My daughter goes to a kinda nanny-share at my work and they're slowly implementing more structure. With covid shutting us down and then rebooting super slowly and during summer, structure kinda went out the door. Recently I have been trying to come up with crafts, developmental activities, and more that they could try with the kids and I'd mentioned circle time. This is a great example! Its really interesting to me that there's a 3-year potential age grouping for montessori. I'd never heard that before.

Ohh i noticed everyone says 3 things Have less things out and make sure evrything has a place especially like this Montessori family does Model and show the baby how things are always tiedied up by tidying in front of them for a few weeks Then they might starts taking part in the tidying up or you could prompt them to help you with a few things. Also making sure you show them how you tidy up everything after you use each thing in your day to day life ie. In the kitchen in the bathroom thing in your bag. Clothes in the hamper or hair products or mop back in its place.

Hi Kimberly! I just checked out the Amazon version you were looking at, and I can tell immediately from the picture that the Amazon version is not exactly the same (and looks like it's much more cheaply designed). I can assure you the Amazon seller is the one ripping off FromJennifer (the Etsy seller), as she's been around for much, much longer and the quality of her products are fantastic! :) I also just looked at the launch date of the Amazon product, and it literally ONLY started being sold last month. FromJennifer has been selling her calendar for a long time now. ;) (P.S. I have a bit of "insider" info on how this works, as my husband's business sells through Amazon, too, and they have TONS of people who straight up try to rip off their product designs. It's crazy how ruthless people can be.)

When did Mia begin putting things back, like on the shelf? I'm a handicapped mom, trust me, there's alot of adjustments that can be made to fit your lifestyle. A big one for me, was getting the "kitchen helper". It's a sort of step stool that my daughter can get on to be at counter level. I stand and do alot of activities with her on either the kitchen counter or the dining room table. If that's a little out of your price range, a regular step stool will do fine. This obviously comes in once your little one can walk and climb. Around 1 and a half, my daughter could climb up on my bed where I'm able to do alot with her as well. She brings me the activity to either the couch or bed and we can do it at whatever level I'm able to.

We may launch into our day, but we do more lurching toward bedtime. LOL. I think I would be tempted to try it more in the middle of the day somewhere. I do not want to talk much in the mornings. I treasure quietude as an approach to a day's work/play. At nighttime, we have the bedtime rituals that we follow as an unwinding process, which are not dissimilar from circle time purposes in a sense. Regrouping midday sounds good to me. Did you create the song about the continents? I did have to laugh because no one on earth will be shaking hands for many years to come. It may even be a practice that is gone forever. I like the folded hands with slight bow of greeting at the 6ft./2meter distance then voicing the greeting. It is from Hindu culture, but you don't need to say 'namaste' or 'suprabatham.' We can use our usual greetings. Do you find that the focus on them for that period of time helps enable them to play on their own for awhile once circle time is over? Just does the intense community lead to a bit more independent play thereafter? Not that this is necessary. Just wondering if it facilitates that.
@LissaxKristine
@LissaxKristine 3 жыл бұрын
I certainly hope shaking hands won't be gone forever! I do wonder about appropriate greetings. Nowadays, I probably wouldn't bow to greet someone. As you said, the greeting you described is from Hindu culture. As a white woman, greeting someone like that could be considered offensive. Cultural appropriation has been such an issue lately and I certainly wouldn't want to take the greeting of another culture.

@bibi dilux Not the kids. Me. I am quiet in the morning. I am not a morning person, so am not talkative or terribly verbal beyond what I have to be. I am in a good mood. I just have trouble getting much said. I speak to say essential things and get breakfast and do homeschooling. We have a relatively quiet household. I work from home and everyone now does, so we have been fortunate to know outside voices belong outside, etc. But, I would not even attempt to keep them quiet in terms of how they handle morning. But, there will not be 4 different electronic noisemakers going, either. Very aware of noise pollution as a serious mental distraction for all.
@philippapay4352
@philippapay4352 3 жыл бұрын
@@LissaxKristine Don't know about offensive. I do not use their words. I use ours. But Prince Charles is doing it because bumping elbows is still getting too close to strangers. It is a praying hands pose with a slight nod of the head and people seem fine with it. In Hindu culture it is a sign of respect for another child of God being greeted, so you'd have to really work at it to take offense. I'd, frankly, prefer not to touch strangers and am glad my kids are no longer encouraged to. Plus shaking hands originated in the mists of time to show that one was not carrying a concealed weapon. That doesn't work with all the garments we wear now, so doesn't apply. LOL. Not to mention when you have painful hands, shaking hands can be horrible.

Thank you for sharing your circle-time ideas! I can’t wait to start when my babe gets older. Right now he’s just 9 months. I wanted to ask, at what age should I start teaching/expect him to only play with one thing at once and put toys back before getting out another? ( Mia did such a great job of that in this video.) Right now he’s just dragging everything out and makes quite a mess and switches from one thing to another pretty quickly. That may be normal for 9 months, but I just thought I’d ask when/how I should start teaching that? Or maybe you have a resource/book recommendation with more info on this in particular? And for what it’s worth, it is definitely NOT always like this! There are many times where Mia just pulls several things off and doesn’t put any of them back! 🤷🏼‍♀️😜

Our 13 and 14 sound the same too. Does she skip one when she counts? I think she thinks she’s repeating herself. That’s our issue.

Is kylie going to be homeschooled or will she be attending a montessori school
@HapaFamily

She is being homeschooled this year. 🥰 She was attending remotely, as well (for a brick and mortar school), but we pulled her out for the rest of the year due to Covid concerns.

Love your videos and have gotten lots of great ideas for my 20 month old! Super random question- where did you get the stool that your girls use in your bathroom? I have been looking and looking and cannot find one that I like!

@bibi dilux oh yea I know, I thought maybe that person would have the link. I guess I was kind of talking to both Ashley and the person who responded.

It’s an IKEA Bekvam stool. You can reallly only find it on Amazon for an insane price right now, because IKEA stopped selling it a few months ago. I’m not sure why. Hoping maybe it comes back in stock, as it was very popular!

So have you ever tried tying Kylie’s hair? I noticed her hair is always flying everywhere on her face and she kept wipe it off her eyes.

Lol my daughter does the same thing but oddly enough it's how she prefers to have her hair. I think that might be Kylie's preference as well.

Why dont you answer???

Please be respectful! No one owes you an answer. My personal advice is that if this paradox is in line with your own values, just explain it to your child the way you justify it to yourself. Personally, I don’t enjoy eating animals but I feel healthier when I do, because we evolved to do so. Everything living will eventually die, and while it is our responsibility as ethical humans to minimize suffering, it is impossible to eliminate it completely. I hope that helps! I’m a work in progress on this front myself. I would love to know how you approach this with your kids, and if you have found another good way to explain it. Thanks!

Hi. Thanks for your useful vlogs. I asked a question under the previous vlog but you didnt answer it. So i ask it again: how can we teach our children to love and respect nature while we cut trees to make toys and we kill animals to eat? Isnt it paradoxical? Thanks again for your help

Why teaching kids things that will learn in school anyways ? Why not teaching them something like music Lenguage staff that school doesn’t teach usually .. like the Koreans do . Just saying .
