This track came to be while solving a problem: I'm having trouble finding time to write music for my band while making these synth videos. The extremely obvious solution is to write music for the band, and then use the MIDI to sequence my synths for this channel! So this is an in-progress single for my band, Plague Society. If you use Facebook give it a follow at / plaguesociety and if you don't check it out at plaguesociety.com/
The featured instrument here is the Behringer Crave, playing a 16th note mid bass sequence. It's processed with Baby Audio Magic Switch for width and Baby Comeback for delay, plus Black Rooster Audio RO-Gold for a bit of plate reverb. All three are free!
The big sub bass is the Moog Minitaur. Magic Switch provides some additional processing, but this is pretty much pure Minitaur. I hope Moog has it back in production soon because it's a great synth.
The string pad is a factory patch on the Behringer Pro VS Mini (patch 27, called Synthorn). It's a great sounding patch, especially with Magic Switch and Raum (free from Native Instruments) providing width and space.
The plucky lead that comes in later in the track is the humble (and totally awesome) Korg Volca Bass. This was my first synth and I can almost always find a use for it in a track. It handles plucks, beefy basses, leads, and pads with no problem. If you're looking to get into analog synthesis for dirt cheap, Volca Bass is a great way to go!
Everything but the pluck has some sidechain compression to give the track plenty of groove. I'm excited to write and record a vocal for this track and release it. I think it's gonna be a dance floor filler! Thanks for reading and listening. If you've made it this far, subscribe for more hardware synth demos! 🖤
