Today was my first flight with you very enjoyable and I just love your Mooney. I am fascinated by the voice actived management systems that you showed. Never seen one like that before, you learn something new each and every day. Look forward to more flights In the future best regards Malcolm.

Nothing sounds like a Mooney on take off. That low muffled growl like my '66 Mustang and they don't struggle at all. Smooth power.

When I was a student pilot at Danbury, my instructor landed a brand new, factory fresh Mooney gear up on a delivery flight from Texas. He was accompanied by another very experienced pilot, and neither of them was paying attention. They both had some 'splainin' to do for the guy who owned the dealership.

Great video! Your camera positions are really good for getting a feel for the flying experience. I'm a rusty pilot just getting current again so it was interesting to see how you use your avionics. I didn't realize that there was so much available...I trained in the early 90s when GPS was just becoming available to general aviation. Seriously considering getting a Mooney for my planned mission. Please post more videos like this!

I believe you would want a rise in oil pressure when exercising the prop (pulling it back to High pitch, low rpm position is accomplished with oil pressure acting on the piston... multi-engine airplanes with featherable propellers are the opposite... awesome video and Mooney! Looking forward to seeing more
@RMAG6 жыл бұрын
Take a look at this animation when the prop lever is pulled back. www.boldmethod.com/images/learn-to-fly/aircraft-systems/how-a-constant-speed-prop-works/animation-prop-back.gif oil will be supplied to propeller hub causing slight drop in the system since oil pressure gauge takes reading of engine oil system; not the oil in prop hub.
@alexmelia88735 жыл бұрын
Rmag is correct. In Mooney's, oil pressure drop on cycling the prop.

Love the airplane! I’m curious if your seats go down at all? I’m 6’7” and thinking about getting an M20J but from your video it looks like your head is really close to hitting the headliner. I’ve flown an m20E but it was years ago and I was a bit thinner.

That's an outstanding video. And I was going to say that that panel is as cool as it gets. But of course with avionics, what you have is never as cool as it gets. There's no fee at RDG if you're going to have lunch at the restaurant ... there's no landing fee or parking or ramp fee, is that correct? Was thinking of flying in there this coming weekend.
@RMAG3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliments, and correct, no fees at Reading.

Are you at all worried about the possibility of losing all your digital displays if the power suddenly went out or CPU froze up or something? Seems like you'd want to have at least airspeed and altitude steam gauge backups just in case? And a backup artificial horizon would be nice too.
@RMAG4 жыл бұрын
That is why a have a separate backup. The small unit to the upper right of the G500 is a L3 ESI-500 back up altimeter, attitude indicator, airspeed indicator, heading indicator which is battery powered in the case of an electrical failure.

Question. Why did you first contact approach before landing even though you were flying VFR? Couldn’t you have gone straight to tower?
@RMAG3 жыл бұрын
Typically when an airport has its own approach and departure control you contact them first as they route departing or arriving flights into the airspace. Tower handles the takeoffs and landings. If I called Tower outside the airspace they would have asked me to contact approach.

How much time would driving take?
@RMAG6 жыл бұрын
About 50 minutes. I actually live about 30 min from RDG Airport. I had to drive 30 min the wrong way to get the plane and then fly 30 min to RDG. So it makes no sense to fly other than the fact it was a “fly in”.

Why say "clear prop", and instantly start the engine?
@RMAG5 жыл бұрын
It’s a warning to anyone that may be in the area that a prop is about to start. It is a safety warning.
@kirbylee575 жыл бұрын
Then why do they start the engine one second after saying "clear prop" ? Not much time to get away at all. In most cases, none.
@RMAG5 жыл бұрын
It’s an alert to tell people that may be in earshot to “keep away”. If someone was already “in the way” no a few seconds would not matter. That is why you look left, forward, and right to look for someone “in the way”. Then you don’t start it until they are clear. I always visually clear the area, to make sure no one is “in the way” and then give an audible “clear prop” to alert people to keep away and not approach the plane at this time.
@kirbylee575 жыл бұрын
oh
@berniemccann89355 жыл бұрын
@@RMAG -- Really ? I don't believe that 'Clear Props' is to stop people approaching the aircraft -- it's for the child sitting under the nose (For example). Starting the motor almost immediately that you shout the warning, without a pause, is a poor habit. Automobiles are now equipped with rear-facing cameras. Now, there's an idea.
@kbuss10 Жыл бұрын
that's nice bro but what are those seats about? you don't look like a huge guy but the actual headrest barely reach your shoulder blades... I'm 193cm tall how could I set that seat or lean back enroute...? 🤔🤔 i know that in old times this was the norm, even 70s 80s cars but how that's a go today?

i can't think of another YT GA pilot that i've watched videos of, that brings it in high and slow, an drops into the runway. so many videos of YT GA pilots flying their 1970's era single engine into the runway like they are delivering cargo and passengers. keep that altitude until you don't need it anymore.

All that glass is not good for safety. Gotta have some steam backup.
@RMAG3 жыл бұрын
That’s what the small gauge to the right of “N205J” on the panel is. Backup, attitude, altitude, airspeed, bank, vertical speed, heading and it has separate battery backup. It would be illegal to have an IFR capable airplane without backup instruments. Mechanical steam gauges don’t make a better backup.
