No need to apologize Matt for what you do or don't complete. This for me was a great episode of the Autocar. Sparks flying, metal cut, welding, torching, cleaning and fabrication. What we all tune in to see in your videos. I'll be watching for your next episode on whatever it is you're working on Matt and thank you for keeping us entertained. Cheers from this old, retired coot living the dream in Tennessee.

That’s cool! My 1 1/2 Grandson just watched this video. He had his bob the builder hard hat his toy hammer and drill working on his dump truck. He’s definitely my little helper! Always wanting to learn how to fix or disassemble something. I was expecting that drum/hub assembly to be around two fifty to three hundred pounds. Yes you can manhandle them, but if it gets away from you, the risk of serious injury is pretty high!

Really enjoyed this week's video Matt. Just an FYI, the type of person that watches your videos doesn't mind up to 2 hours for one video. Your kind of material is basically the saga of an old piece of history being restored to glory in a world where the newer things just cannot compete in hearty work. People like myself are there with you, living vicariously through your efforts. It really is a wonderful thing.

Hey Matt I was an instructor of Welding and Fab in a local trades college for 2 1/2 years and come from heavy fab, big beam compressor frame construction and cranes. When cutting thick materials I liked it as it taught patience especially with OXY/Acetylene. I also welded large pressure vessels as well as the port or nozzle cutting on the curve of the vessel with oxy fuel. I can see your skills in cutting your kerf is straight and patient. So many get impatient and do not allow the pre-heating of the metal before cutting of the metal structure. Less clean up with nice even kerf, a quick zip with the grinder or flap wheel and you are done. Great work and nice torch work!

Matt. Whilst I'm not an armchair critic, and also realise that you have in all likelihood moved past this stage, I have two comments to add. 1, Bearings are cheap and whilst you are in there changing them would be wise especially due to the seal failures and dirt ingress. 2. I would recommend that you cover the stub axles when fabricating near them, weld or grinding/cutting splatter can ruin a stub axel seal or bearing and then your day. Keep up the great work. Jason.

You're wrong, Matt, spending time with you is a real pleasure. The Coach, we've been waiting for a long time, sure it's going to take time, but we know that when it arrives it will be perfect and will be of great service to you, especially with the Richie brothers! French friendships.

Don't worry about this taking time from our perspective. It's just good to see this old truck being brought back to life. The partswasher is earning its keep. Cleaning the hubs would be hard manual work and being able to have these done while you get on with other areas is a real multiplier. Enjoyed this!

Know the feeling of not wanting to dig deeper. Did the transmission on my father-in-laws 175 Allis-Chalmer last fall. Every time I thought I'd do an extra seal on the final drive or what ever I'd find more broken or worn parts. Finally got to the point I didn't want to look anymore.

Something you might want to add on the tail, is a pintle hook, quite handy if you need to haul a equipment trailer that is either too heavy for your dually or or into an area that is just too nasty to take that dually. You are doing it just the way it should be done, inspection, removal, replace, and in some cases, upgrade. Great Job Matt, Keep It Safe

Hi Matt I hope you get a knowledgeable Sandblaster that knows his job and also the correct finishes to use on your truck, from the looks of the rest of your equipment they are going to be able to have to stay for a while as well as a good body sheet metal man.

Hello from Michigan Matt, what a pile of work to do on this old rig. I can picture it all cleaned up and painted. I like this Autocar Construcktor, because when i was a kid, my grandpa drove for Melling Tool once he stopped growing crops, and leased the land out. His was the same color orange, and once in awhile he would give us a ride if he was moving trailers. With the shopping at the auction, you could probably use this to pick up your win's. This shop has got to make doing this so much easier than doing it outside. G-d bless, and can't wait to see this thing finished.
