The play value of your layout is most apparent in this video Oscar. So many different train movements giving the impression of a busy railway at work. I have both the bridge and the viaduct but have not yet found a use for them. I'm surprised that you felt the need to ask if we would like to see new items as you get them, of course we would. Through your collection and videos I am gaining an appreciation for items I have overlooked in the past, for example the Caledonian coaches, they really are beautiful. As always, you have entertained me and left me wanting to see more. Regards, David.

Good morning David glad you enjoyed the video and seeing new items. I’ve been getting to play with the trains a lot more recently rather than build or develop the railway. This is great fun in the evenings and very often in the early mornings before going to work. I did have a devious plan to try and put an elevated siding along the edge of railway using the viaducts supports but each way I look at it I can’t make the angles work. So they will have to stay on the shelf or in a box more likely until the next time. Take care. Oscar

Enjoyed that Oscar, I can well remember, a old Hornby Black 5 & a 101 DMU, in the late 60's on the basic board layout (never was finished) which my farther started starting to both started to smoke, with much panic he knocked both loco's of the tracks fearing the house would burn down! it was 20 years later I was aloud to build a first proper oo layout! That was a 7' long x 2'6'' 18'' wide shelf layout

Good morning Vinny thanks for watching that sounds like one of those great railway modelling moments thanks for sharing it. It’s amazing the memories which are associated with these items. Glad to hear you eventually developed your railway, it was about 30 years between me stopping playing with the model railway as a teenager and quite surprised finding out I still really liked all Tri-any Hornby items from the past when my son was given a train set as a gift about eight or nine years ago. As Hornby Railways advertising used to say it could be the start of something big... Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, looking at that rather nice mineral train. An 8F pulling them would look really great. Not sure if the Hornby one would be too new for you. But the Wrenn on would be about the right era and was released by Triang between the years 1969.- 1972.A new tooled version with an all plastic body and tender drive. was released in 1988 by Hornby, But not sure if this is not a bit too late for you. The only information I can find on the white roofed Caladonian coaches shows they were released after 1965. So they may well have been sold in Triang boxes. Again another wonderful video to watch.

That catalogue was one of the first ones I had when I first started out with model trains in the early 70’s, unfortunately my pay as an apprentice did not run to buying loco’s so had to run goods wagon with my childhood Hornby Dublo three rail train set which I still have. Great video.

What interests me in Vintage Model Railways is the driving of the trains and associated operations. It's also fascinating to see how the change in colours of accessories compliments the rolling stock. It is genius isn't it that they could maintain new interest by changing colours, dropping models for a period and then bringing them back for a new generation. Thanks for making such interesting top quality videos. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫

Good morning Paul, glad you enjoyed all the action on the railway, there has been some great running in the evenings and early morning recently and a lot of fun. The roof you sent me shows up on class 31 in the video on the 8th of August which I made back in early June replacing the one with soldering iron marks and that roof has gone on to replace another roof on an experimental model which has a crack almost all the way across which will show up in a later video. I have a class 31. It’s also gets very noisy which generally says it needs a service. I’ve started using Tamyia graphite grease on the gears and axle mounts. It helps reduce the noise on those motors a little

I love it! - I reckon there would have been a few spilt cups of coffee on those trains. On the class 31, I don't recall ours being particularly noisy, but I know there are at least two variants of the motor and gearing. To be honest, I can't remember exactly when ours was last run, but I'm pretty certain it would have been powered from one of the more up to date "Current Feedback" controllers, which probably makes a difference to the sound from the motor. It's not DCC, but the driveability is comparable to DCC.

Lots of interest as usual. Glowing cab lighting at 1:07. Even prior to the HST, the cab lights were a big attraction of the R159 double ended diesels. Glowing at both ends cabs as well as from the headlight beams. Yes it was not how trains would run , but a big attraction in turning the room lights off to appreciate the headlight beam and cab lights. Both to me, friends and family. With that model a lot of running was done creating lots of atmosphere in the dark. So maybe Hornby for the HST had some corporate memory of their Triang roots reasons for success and it might have been intended. Even today in Sam's Trains comments numerous comments are made from seeming younger modellers lamenting the lack of lighting on models. Now simpler and cheaper with LEDs.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 3 жыл бұрын
Good morning John I think you right it adds such a lot play value just adding a lamp to the models. R.159 look tremendous running around the tack lit up you cannot help but smile. I think it probably increased the desirability HST back in the 70s when it arrived. Defiantly an important model in Hornby's history. Thanks again take care. Oscar

Another great video Oscar. By the way have you ever come across models suffering from Zinc Pest (Mazak Rot)? I haven't myself and since they seem to be on later models you might have not either. The brick bridge and Viaduct are still in the 2019 catalogue R180 and R189. At one time there was was a brick bridge with graffiti on it!
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 3 жыл бұрын
Good morning Graham I think so far I've not come across any of the models suffering from the Mazak Rot. But I have come across some of the very early Tri-ang Railways wagon chassis's and bogies that are going whiteish and in some cases developing a white powdery texture on there surfaces, I'm not sure if this is the same issue or something different but nothing that has disintegrated. I have read about that version of the bridge I think it was the mid 60s I'm sure I've read somewhere that it was a transfer sheet that came with the bridge for a period of time so could be applied or left off. Thanks again take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, Excellent video and some really nice footage of trains passing each other. I know what you mean by clearing things off the layout and putting on fresh models. It's not that we are fed up with them it just adds a freshness and a revisit to something that has been in a box for a while or is new to you. I recently changed some station buildings however I have two Waiting Rooms/Toilets with no red chimneys ( a common problem I think). Any thoughts on who might be selling that sort of thing would be very much appreciated. Regards and take care, Gordon

Hi Oscar, I started to be given Tri-ang railway stuff in the late 1950s, but I've never seen that hand uncoupler, not even in a catalogue. Was it designed for the pre tension lock couplings?
@oscarpaisley

Hi Roger, you may be right it showed up in 1956 and vanished from the catalogue by around 1960 it seems to work very well with the tension lock couplings. I think the earlier mk2 couplings were phased out in 1958/59. Thanks again take care. Oscar www.tri-ang.co.uk/OONew/decoupler.htm
