One of our firewood trucks was very slow going up hills. I decided to try turning up the fuel pump and seeing if it would make a difference. It made a huge change. The truck is a international 4900 with a DT466 engine.

Add the power driven diesel AFC live. It adjusts the fuel foot in cab. Awesome setup. For that pump!!

That AFC housing is also made with slotted holes and can be slid as well. Additionally you can mess with the pre boost smoke screw and set that so it’s responsive.

Right now the truck has almost enough power. Really the only issue is the power band is narrow and it's a 5 speed. So when we pull out on the main road going up hill you can get stuck in 3rd when the truck would pull the hill in 4th no problem if you have the engine in the power band.

@@diyVT then you need the 4x governor springs. Yours start pulling fuel out when you need them.

I have a truck similar to this one. i was wondering how this last change of the fuel pump worked out for you? Have you experienced any exhaust gas temperature problems?

We haven't had a problem with it. It's been a great improvement. We have talked about changing the timing also but haven't gotten around to it. As far as exhaust temps it hasn't seemed to be a problem. However we're typically only running for a short amount of time at Max power.

It's a 1995, one of the last years before electronic controls.
