I agree with James about movie Raiden in terms of characterisation, but highly disagree about the voice. I’m not the first person to say I love it cause it literally sounds like electricity crackles through his veins. That’s why it was awesome they had him return as an alternate skin in MK11, the dialogue is better and his voice has aged in a way that makes the lightning effect even more pronounced.

I loved Christopher Lambert's performance in this movie.. he was just perfect, imho. His laugh sounded kinda sinister, which echoes the struggle of the video game character of being a good or a bad guy. You know.. the whole evil Raiden thing, red eyes, etc. Hell, even the whole cast was damn good. They were like made for this. Too bad that the sequel wasnt as good as this one. :

This movie holds a special place in my heart. I was in 2nd grade in 1995, when it came out and got the flu, so my grandma rented the movie for me and I laid in bed and watched it numerous times.

Honestly, to me, this one of the most perfect movies. No I'm not joking. I am a very big fan of the MK series. MK2 is one of my favorite games of all time due to the commonly known fact that the AI is broken, therefore the game is super easy & yet will beat you down at random (in my experience). It's 90's corny but I'm a 90's kid so it fits. The story, though not entirely kept up with the game, EVERYBODY can watch & understand what's going on. I didn't watch Highlander until literally decades later so Chris, in my opinion was AWESOME as Raidon & is rasp was/is what made him unique & therefore I really liked him. Art's presents wasn't strong enough to "distract" the audience to the point where someone who's not familiar with MK almost won't ask how he's involved in the game. The music worked. The acting & jokes worked. When I hear the Reptile sound bite I lose my sh**. I loved who they cast. And as was said in this YT vid, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is & will FOREVER be the best Shang Tsung. Everybody is a fan, rightfully so, of, "your soul is mine." Mine is when he says, "Fatality." That single word could've gone horribly wrong in so many ways (to the point of too corny even for the 90's) but Cary-Hiroyuki pulled it off as best as ANYONE could. Look, even after I just kissed this movies butt, I completely understand why people have thier complaints & criticisms. I really do. However the way this was executed, even minus the extreme violence, I personally think this works. Especially for a game-movie. It's almost it's own thing (maybe a spiritual successor in some odd ways due to entertainment medium) but I just love it. I love how they keep Shao a sort of mystery till the end. I love how EVERY character, especially Chan & Art DON'T overstay their welcome. Can you imagine if this movie was written poorly. An example is, Chan would've been trained by Liu Kang to become champion & Art could've just been Jax but just by simple name change. I could see that happening today & that kind of stuff would've pissed me right off as a fan, but it didn't. It did what it did with what it could & I think it's an overall fun & charming blast from the 90's. Great count Dead Meat. I'll see you on the next adventure.

I knew I'd seen and liked this video before... Had it only been a dream? Had it been an alcohol induced illusion? I didn't know. I saw the thumbnail and it said: "uploaded 2 hours ago". I feared for my mental health as I could SWEAR I'd watched and liked this video before. In terror, I ignored it, I watched other videos in vain and tried to forget that time-stamp, but it never left my mind... Had I watched it? Had I actually experienced a Mortal Kombat (1995) Kill Count? I see it over, and over in my recommended videos; it calls to me. While I watch a completely unrelated video, there it lies: "2 days ago". Did I travel through time and space and watch it two weeks ahead of its release? Has time just followed me, as I have followed it throughout my life? Oh... Ohhhhhhhhh... Nah, it's just copyright stuff... Existensial dread averted :D

I had played MK1-MK4 as a kid before finally getting into the theatres to see this and I loved it but also hated how much potential they left on the table. 1. Open with Shao Khan holding Kitana and Lui Kang(as children) hostage. Goro fights Kung Lao, Reptile fights Scorpion(coming to save Kitana). Shang Tsung then tasked to find LK, and has Sub-Zero hunt Scorpion 2. Kano intercepts Jax(while he and Sonya are lured by Raiden), gets his eye-busted, tries to ambush both during the tourney 3. Sub-Zero and Smoke trap Scorpion, but Kitana helps Scorpion. Johnny Cage, high off his Goro win, tried to push up on Kitana, stalks her, and lends a hand hoping to win her over 4. SZ and Smoke defeated, LK defeats Baraka, then Shang Tsung, thinking Shao Khan is next, Reptile emerges out the pit to prove he's the ultimate Outworld bodyguard

I love this movie so much, knowing full well it's terrible. XD It's still one of the two best, most fun and loving movie adaptations I've ever seen, alongside the equally wtf Street Fighter film. (You know the one. It's got Jean Claude Van Damme and friggin' Mulan herself beating up on the Magnificent Raul Julia in his most mad-as-a-hatter wide-eyed role.) I know this isn't anywhere near a horror movie, but thank you for going over it. It's a true gem. Also, I got taught martial arts by one of those guys Shang Tsung summons to fight Liu Kang! The stunt performer for the ghost samurai is Fumio Demura, a Shito-Ryu martial artist and sensei who runs the dojo across from the community college where I took martial arts classes for a few years. The instructor was actually one of his students, and he only came in a few times a year to encourage and be ridiculous with us (guy has a great sense of humor). I'm Mortal Kombat-adjacent! :D

Personally, Christopher Lambert as Raiden was one of my favorite things about this movie.
