*For the song Destiny and Honor* This was where I belonged. I took a deep, deep breath of the air, heavy with the aroma of blood, sweat, and carnage. There was nothing else like it, an alluring perfume that intoxicated the mind and dulled the senses with pleasure. This was where I belonged. Not in the stuffy castle walls, with the Nobles, who grew up with soft silk, crowds of servants, and soft beds. Not in that suffocating prison of stone, where conversations were a battle and an argument was a war, where every Lord and Lady honed their wordplay to a point sharper than any dagger or sword. They were coiled vipers, concealing plots between sweet words, layering threats behind honeyed compliments. Their games of politics gave me a headache that drove me to my knees, worse than when God was split into the Six Mighty Ones and the Twenty Lesser Ones. But here... here I was safe. The battlefield, the orderly chaos of war, was where everything made sense. This was where I belonged. This was where I could carve my name into the Records of History, written with a sword finer than any pen or quill, with crimson blood more extravagant and rich than any ink money could buy. This was my home. This was where I was most welcomed. Her was where Father War welcomed me with a warm embrace, calloused hands guiding my sword into the weak points of my enemies army, where his hard lessons etched themselves into my mind better than any other teacher could. This was where I belonged. The war had already started, a symphony grander than any orchestra available to Sister Music playing a soothing tune just for me, the snarls of rage and pain and anger of the wounded men and women serving as the base, the howls of agony and the sobs of grief a sweet melody in contrast to the harsh ringing of steel on steel. But there were a few who, just like me, were completely at home in this Hell. The cries of their comrades didn't make them lose hope. Instead it spurred them forwards, their arms moving even faster, slicing left and stabbing right, a windmill of silver and a flurry of grey that eventually erupted into a stream of bright scarlet as they hit their mark. But they weren't flustered. No, most were either calm... or smiling. Because they knew, in this chaotic purgatory of fire and death, they could be reborn. They knew they were fighting for something much grander than themselves. So they fought. They killed. I myself didn't even flinch as an arrow whizzed by my face, air whispering gently against my cheek as the shaft grazed my skin, burying itself into the throat of our Flag Bearer. The fine cloth waved in the air as he fell, tattered and bloody, but this didn't stop our warriors. Instead it caused them to set up a collective howl of rage, the voice ripping through the air like the roar of a dragon, vibrating in our chest and resonating in our hearts. It rallied us, causing our tired arms to move faster, our numb legs to churn swifter, and our eyes to dance with the glow of a warriors pride. I turned to look at my next challenger, a large hulking man who was glaring at me, beady black eyes staring at me with an ocean of rage behind them. His shoulders heaved as he panted, each breath more taxing then the last. His body was criss-crossed with wounds, his arms bathed in crimson and his torso an intimidating dark red. His armor hung in tatters around his waist and shoulders, having long since served their purpose. I glanced at his axe, still dripping from his last victim, the blood forming a puddle that I knew would soon merge with the rest of the puddles to turn into an ocean. He took a slow, lumbering step towards me, but I wasn't afraid. He was nearly three times my size, but the only thing coursing through me was an icy calm. Father War once again lending me His strength, murmuring tips and advice into my mind in silence. No. I wasn't afraid, there was no fear in our people. Only anticipation. For this was where I belonged. I would fight, and I would win. For this was my Destiny, and my Honor.
