Hey, what jets are you running in your Mikuni, or are you running stock? I jus got mine with essentially same setup (i.e. ported & polished, third transfer, windowed piston, same mz65 pipe, etc) and if u could save me from the rabbit trail...I ordered several of both main & pilot jets Thanks in advance...
@BicycleMotorsports6 жыл бұрын
Purnell Espinosa, the vm18 as you prob already know comes with the #25 idle jet and #70 main jet installed. I purchased different size idle and main jets from Treats. I kept the #25 idle and changed the 70 to a 80. You may want to purchase a #60, #65, #75 and #82.5, #85 and #90 main jet just in case. I also changed the float level (out of necessity) due to flooding and fuel being emitted from the overflow. Float level was just over 18mm (stock) and is now 21mm. NOTE: You will need a caliper and a careful touch to adjust the float level. If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask. 👍

Bicycle Motorsports I know you're into gopeds as well, have you ever considered trying to retrofit a GSR60 goped engine like what Derek Short has all built up on his Ferrari ped? I feel like those engines have the highest specific output of any low displacement 2 stroke under 125 cc, just imagine what 1 of those engines would be capable of if it were hooked up to the transmission and everything of a bike like this with a jackshaft kit, Derek Short did 70 mph or so on his ped this would probs do that but on level ground..Would be a neat project
@BicycleMotorsports6 жыл бұрын
Danny Murphy, it's funny you should mention that. Amongst friends, I've said quite a few times how cool it would be if I could mount one of those goped engines to a bicycle. You're correct, the power to weight ratio seems better with those engines. All things considered, those goped engines are of a much better precision, higher tolerances and better QC than the typical 66cc engine. There may be some very slight issues with the positioning and mounting of said engine, but it's something that I will definitely look into doing... Great suggestion.👍
@danmurphy19946 жыл бұрын
Bicycle Motorsports You seem like minded my friend... Wouldn't it be cool to develop a frame or something to be adapted purely for ped engines? Kind of draw inspiration from past Goped products and start from there using similar light weight high strength heavy impact resistant materials and make the Jackshaft part of the frame all pre-fitted perhaps. I think a 5 speed would work wonders in opening things up a bit. I would start with a simple Trek 1 speed fat tire bike, no suspension all aluminum one of the super light ones. Then optimize a zenoah or Chung Yang 46cc high compression, with the pipe, carburetor, air filter etc. then try running it with race gas 103 octane can be easily obtained from the right shop and synthetic 2 stroke racing oil for a clean burn and a little extra responsiveness. That'd be good for 8+ hp right there which is Honda Grom Territory. I think the GSR60's made up to 14-16hp I may be off though.

I live in Madison WI. ride my Goped Sport G23LH all over haha drivers' license situation is complicated so I've given all this a fair bit of thought. Need to bite the bullet and buy an engine kit and a frame so I can say I know how everything works exactly but I've been putting it off and working on my goped.

Danny Murphy, if you end up buying a kit, I recommend the new Grubee GT5A or Zeda 80 in that order. www.grubee.net/products/gt5a-es-2-stroke-engine bicyclemotorworks.com/product/zeda-silver-6680cc-bike-engine-kit/ You can get the Zeda 80 from Zeda Motorsports but at the moment they're are sold out. Stay away from random Ebay kits.

Yes I am taking credit for fabricating a breather valve and splash guard on that particular gas cap which would otherwise have neither. I'm not taking credit for the invention of a breather valve on a gas cap, if that is what you meant. It would be pretty foolish to take credit for something that is literally on millions of atv and dirt bike gas caps for quite some time now.

Also, what engine did you purchase for your motor bike? In your video you were talking about how you upgraded the carburator? Can you please provide more information on that? TIA!
@BicycleMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
I have a CNC Billet aluminum motor on there now that I assembled myself with balanced cranks and upgraded clutch. However the carburetor I upgraded to was a Mikuni vm18 clamp on carburetor. Just below is a link. I purchased it from treats. If you check out some of my other videos You'll see the carburetor www.treatland.tv/mikuni-vm-18mm-p/mikuni-18mm-vm-round-slide.htm?gclid=Cj0KCQjw_viWBhD8ARIsAH1mCd6SBWvJkXb7ErgKipjgGpxD4ccCKSHxfSAVh_uyXRm5WiMerx2Np8IaApHdEALw_wcB
@BicycleMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
What kind of setup do you have?
@BicycleMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
When upgrading to this type of carburetor just know it's a little more complex than the stock carburetors that come with these motors. You might have to tweak it with the jetting and fuel intake and in some cases the fuel float. I've made a few videos addressing the aforementioned.
@BicycleMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
You're also going to need an 18 mm intake manifold for the motor to match up with the upgraded carburetor
@BicycleMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
Here's a link to another video I did on a sprocket removal and you can see in the video the reed valve setup that I have that the Mikuni carburetor would connect to. The Reed valve will help immensely with fuel blowback into the carburetor which can mess up the fuel to air mixture ratios and cause fuel leaking out of the carburetor onto the bike frame. I recommend a reed valve. you might have to change the carburetor jetting. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gryXobiXuNW1e6s.html

James Lapple, yeah I have seen this video before. If you look closely at the pedestal mount and pause it at just the right moment, you will see that this guy has fabricated a custom mounting plate and affixed to it so that the engine can be mounted to the pedestal. I could do the same but... Iam running a reed valve setup with a larger higher performing carb, along with the right angle Molassi Air filter. With that being said, unfortunately, there's just not enough space between the rear mounting bracket of the SBP Jackshaft and the air filter. As it is now, I only have about a 1/4" of space between the frame and the taper of the air filter. Add a jackshaft mounting assembly in there and it wouldnt fit at all. It's a bit frustrating. I have spoken with one of the guys at SBP about this and they are in agreement about the spacing issues. I do have some plans to add a modified jackshaft kit sometime this winter. I appreciate you taking the time to provide your suggestions and links. If you happen to come across any more info of a Jackshaft installed on a similar setup to mine, by all means please send them to me again. 👍

Intake port needs to be a bit roughed up when "polishing" your port for a more volitile atmosphere. Oh and its an Engine not an Electric"Motor" that you're talking about. Just say'n.
@BicycleMotorsports6 жыл бұрын
mark kasper, I thought about it for a moment as I couldn't quite figure it out when you said "electric motor" and finally realized what you meant after I watched the video in its entirety. Yes your are correct about the word motor being electric. Iam aware of the difference and that I use that term quite a bit when talking about these engines. I'm merely using the word interchangeably, that's all. Thanks for the correction. I probably should just use the word 'engine' instead, for accuracy sake.
@BicycleMotorsports6 жыл бұрын
mark kasper, I hope I'm understanding correctly. As I mentioned in the video, the ports do need to be polished for a smooth flow of air on the intake and exhaust. A "roughed up" surface on the intake and or exhaust would not be advisable. If I misunderstood your comment, just reply and elaborate for me a bit. I want to be on the same page.👍
@m.kasper76466 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, im not trying to be difficult, i apologize for the misunderstanding, the fuel gets atomized for a more volitile atmosphere when slightly roughed up not real rough but definitely not smooth on the intake, ive been doing this since the 70's on all kinds of different two strokes. I enjoy your page and am looking forward to more videos, you're one of the more tolerable people to watch hahaha! Keep on rocking it. mark kasper, I certainly didn't think you were being difficult. I appreciate your insight. I had never considered the volatility and atomization of the fuel beyond the carburetor on the intake before. I'm intrigued. I'm going to do more research into this. I always appreciate contributing ideas. 👍

There is nothing wrong with those yining brakes, if you know how to adjust them. What do you think the "better" brakes are made of, some cheap pot metal alloy. They suckered my brother at bike store for shimano's, not me I knew better. A caliper gauge would tell you what the pads are and I found them on Amazon ez. The fact you were in a bike store tells me you fix problems with your wallet not your head.
