CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Having done research on "Jewish exorcisims," Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) makes an attempt to rid his daughter of an evil spirit by recitiing a prayer from an anicent scripture.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by Los Angeles Times writer Leslie Gornstein's article "A Jinx in a Box," this horror film from Ghost House Pictures and director Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch) tells the tale of a broken family that comes under attack from a malevolent supernatural entity of Jewish folklore. Shortly after her parents (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick) divorce, a young girl purchases an ornate antique box at a yard sale. In the weeks that follow, the young girl forms an intense fixation on the box, her behavior growing increasingly bizarre as she falls into the grip of a diabolical apparition. When the girl's father discovers that the relic is in fact a holding cell for the disconnected soul of a deceased person who has been denied entry into the afterlife and needs a human host to inhabit, he fights to rid her of the evil that threatens to consume her body and soul.

This is a pretty underated movie. Especially in a slew of possession movies that we've had in the last decade. This one stands out. Great acting, especially from the father and the possessed kid, and a pretty original premise that you don't normally see in these movies with the Dibbuck. It's usually just some random demon or a nun, this one's a little different.

I couldn't agree more, this movie is outrageously underrated. You know why this story is so unique right? It's cuss it's based on supposedly real events. You can actually go to a certain Jewish museum where the Debuk box is on display.

I like how this movie doesn’t shove jump scares in your face once every five mins. It focused more on emotion and struggle to cope with a big change in all the characters lives. That’s what makes it stand out. At times i forgot it was a horror movie ‘cause the humanization of the characters, Specially JDM’s, is written so well.

This scene says so much. It says that: 1) The dibbuk is telling her father not to mess with it, 2) Emily's tears means she realizes that he understands the true nature of the problem and cares about her, 3) that her mother's attempt to protect her from her father was her only chance at getting rid of it, and 4) that the dibbuk wants to destroy any hope she has of being released from it.

I wasn't sure if this movie would be worthwhile. it's hard to not make comparisons with The Exorcist. My sister just texted me, she's watching this movie. I chose to view this video because of that evil look on the girl's face!! omg! I hope I can handle watching this film alone.

this scene is representing the rebellion of lucifer against GOD…lucifer was an angel who fell... when Em’s dad starts reading, the evil entity wants to resist words of healing and faith and GOD’s protection. lucifer turned away from GOD/rebelled against god. that’s why the evil entity occupying Em’s body doesn’t want to hear anything about faith and love and protection. when you are a lost soul, so used to pain and suffering, once salvation actually arrives, it feels unwelcomed and even a threat. you can feel it with the raging energy that knocks the book right out of his hands. at first the pages began to turn ...almost as a warning...don’t shine any more love/light/hope...evil resists love and light. love and hope are clearly the message of what her dad is reading.

I..can actually relate. Not that i was possessed,no that goes to far for me •~•,but,when i was around 4-ish,i was around fake friends alot. They liked to take anything they "borrowed" from me. And,when an actual friend came to help me,i pushed her away. To this day,we are still best friends,no matter what,because she stayed with me,and always had my back.
