Moving Halley Research Station 23km across Antarctica | British Antarctic Survey

February 2017. British Antarctic Survey has successfully relocated Halley VI Research Station to its new home on the Brunt Ice Shelf. It took 13 weeks to move the world's first fully relocatable research facility 23 km across the ice. The largest module (A module - living space) is seen her successfully making its way slowly to its new location on Brunt Ice Shelf.

At least you could get your trusty Husky to catch its own penguins to save your ammo to shoot them to eat when they became a Hiudenberger energy pack to help getting back to base camp on Shanks Pony before the polar darkness arrived ! !

the blue one looks distressed as the red one approaches... 'oh nooooo, dont eat my faaaaccceeee!!!!" but then the red one stops just short... Nice modular mobile design, handy as the ice is adjusting to a warmer climate.

Five year on & the South African fabricators, in Cape Town, look like they did a good job with the Halley Vl pods. All appears to be clean & tidy, with very little signs of weathering/UV damage, that I can see from the video. Are the two CAT's doing the towing 'Rover & Seeker' left overs from TCJ expedition? Great job & congrats to all those @ BAS working on the ice for the 2016/17 season.

This is produced in an episode of the octonauts that when they founded an old ice reasearch statoin that is shut down for years and the station was falling into the ice chasm so they pulled a rope so they can get back to work

Why are the pods tapered toward the ends? Seems like a waste of what could have been a lot more interior space if the pods were more rectangular in shape.

The modules are shaped that way to deflect snow.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I understand the need to deflect the snow to prevent excessive drifting. However the Amundsen-Scott main building has only one facet that is beveled, on the bottom and the windward side only. I understand the need for that. But the bevels towards the ENDS of the pods seem unnecessary for deflecting the snow, particularly the bevels on the sides and the top seem unnecessary.
