MOVING INTO MY (tiny) DREAM KITCHEN

Of all the different tiny houses, vans, boats, and shipping containers we've worked on over the years, I have to say that this little kitchen is probably my favorite build so far. It turned out so much more beautiful and functional than we could have ever hoped for, especially considering that most of the work was done in the dead of winter on top of a mountain in the Catskills with no cell service, no electricity, but a whole lot of joy and perseverance ; ) Big shout out to all the people in our community that came together to make this one happen, especially our friends Levi and Leah who put in the insulation, our friend Audie who flew from Berlin to help out, and our friend Noah who did most of the interior work together with Lou and taught him how to build interior cabinets. Once we get all of the finishing touches in place we will have to do a tour to explain some of the cool off-grid systems, inspired by our time in the van!
Big hugs,
Dana

Question, why does Frea (the dog) stil needs to go in a crate/small dog kennel? She looked a bit afraid when she was released, with her ears flat in the neck, as if she did something wrong. Looked like she maybe felt it as punishment. I am realy wondering why? 🤔 Because she seems to be so well trained.

Miss you guys on the off days/weeks. Its surreal to me that i follow a family on youtube. This was a pandemic side effect that i cant shake. There are some more sad elements to watching someone’s e else build the life of their dreams and feel like im so far from mine, but i cant help but keep celebrating yours. Both of your gentle honest open natures blipping into my reality feels like a gift. The amount that Mac smiles blows me away. It does kind of feel like a one sided friendship- i guess thats the nature of your work- to be so friendly and im certain ways intimate with all of us. Its funny cuz you also are obviously people who treasure your privacy…. Just sharing some thoughts as i peeked at youtube this sunday morning to see if maybe a video was up:)

How exciting to have such a lovely place to cook and bake! Lou is an amazing carpenter and craftsman, and I know you are going to make so many healthy, tasty meals. Max is adorable - I enjoy watching you teach him and play with him. I hope the smoke clears quickly - we’ve been dealing with it here in SE PA as well. It slows down my outdoor gardening projects, but it’s so important to be safe. 💗

I felt so bad for Freja's tiny crate I could barely pay attention in the rest of the video. Why do you keep her in that place? Do you keep her there the whole night? I think she should have a place where she can at least stand up and turn around. Seriously I love you content but that made me so unconformable, I can't even imagine how it feels for her

A simple Google search shows you that the crate is made for her breed. The crate alone cost over $1,000. I'm sure they would get the appropriate crate with it costing that much. I did think that the crate looked small but after looking up the crate, it's the camera angle.

Yeah we’ve been dealing with forest fire smoke here on the west coast for a number of years now and it’s such a drag. Of course the biggest drag is climate change in general but the smoke is huge bummer. Your kitchen!!!! Holy smokes, that Lou is something else. My husband is the same and it’s such a neat thing to witness. If they don’t know how to do a thing, they learn. Nicest container kitchen I’ve ever seen

Love what you have done and know you care greatly for Freya but unless it’s the camera angle that crate seems too small. She needs to be able to lay stretched out on her tummy or side as well as turn easily. Particularly in shepherds it can exacerbate any lower spinal dip. She looks happy of course but please consider a larger crate especially for the summer to allows her to stretch and cool.

Agree, I think he would enjoy a high chair.

I'm baffled. A high chair is essential. Why don't they have it already? Surprising naivety.

Every person in America should have air purifiers and ideally upgrade their home and HVAC filters to Merv13's (better than HEPA). This is unfortunately our future. Its not just about the air quality for "vulnerable groups" either. PM.2 pollution is deadly. Just 24 hour exposure can shorten a person's lifespan by 8.5 months. Air pollution is now the 6th biggest killer in the world. KN95 or higher masks are a must to have on hand too. I honestly think instead of building a barn, you guys should consider getting a 40ft container to attach to the bedroom container. If you feel too cramped to spend two days in your current set up, imagine a long hard winter.
