Nice job, Chris. The orange looks spot on - great job doing it by hand - I can never seem to do justice with hand painting...

I really wasn’t interested in this kit until watching your build up. I would like it in 1/48 though to match my Eagles.

Beautiful build, and a great review! I picked one of these up at WalMart for $20. I'm amazed at the fit of parts of your sample. Not needing to fill/sand will be a real blessing for my limited hobby hours!

The only thing about this I don't like much is the scale, lovely looking kit that needs to be bigger
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised if it was made into a larger scale later. But Round2 in their latest YT video said people have been asking for more shelf and wallet friendly scales for the 1999 models.

I never saw this show, it seemed more drama than action to my child mind, when compared to Star Trek. Beautiful model Chris! The flat coat at the end finished it perfectly. The decal detail turns this into a slick studio model. I might need to check out show just based on some of the realism brought from the US space program of the 60's into the model. The current space program will fall under Air Force instead of Navy, I am not sure if the "she" will continue. :-(

Another great review. I have been binge watching your videos trying to catch up. I’m amazed at how fast you can build. In several if not all you talk about your “parts washer”. What is it? I soak mine in a plastic tube of warm water and Dawn overnight.
@hpiguy

Yup, just a dollar store wash bin and some Jungle Jim (generic Simple Green) with warm water. Scrub with an old electric toothbrush and rinse off.

When you hand paint with the ceramcoat, how many applications did it take and do you mix the paint with anything? It looks airbrushed. I have never had much success with craft paints.
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 6 жыл бұрын
I brush once, and then I leave it alone aside from touchups. No thinning or mixing. I use a simple sable brush from Tower Hobbies. The more you apply, the bigger the glops and strokes get. It settles nicely on it's own if left alone. Thanks for the nice words! :)

@hpiguy

I can't say yes for sure as the sheet doesn't say Cartograf, but the decal sheet does say "Decals made in Italy" with the other disclaimers and rights info. So I'm guessing they are.

Brian Johnson didn't design it Martin Bower did
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 6 жыл бұрын
I can only go by the picture and quote from the director on the box saying he designed it in sketches first. I don't know the full history of Space:1999 so I'll leave that to the people that dig into it to hash it out on the internet and say someone on the box is wrong, etc. Like the George Barris and Tom Daniel who designed what argument still going on today.
@SaturnCanuck
@SaturnCanuck 6 жыл бұрын
Fair enough sir. You are just reading the box. Strange they would say that. For the record Brian Johnson designed The Eagle, but ALL other spacecraft were designed by and built by Martin Bower. This includes The Altares from "The Day After Tomorrow"
@scatta99
@scatta99 6 жыл бұрын
Actually, it was Brian Johnson who did the original design, Bower enhanced on it and then built the 2 studio models. 'Space Models' also produced some of the original studio spacecraft.

Nobody has wanted 1/72 model kits since the 70's. Terrible. No wonder the hobby is barley hanging on.
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 6 жыл бұрын
In Round2s latest video they said they've had lots of requests for smaller ships than 1/48 scale. 1/72 scale aircraft and space ships are one of the biggest sellers on the market for that genre. 1/72 armor, no, those don't sell nearly as well as 1/35.
