Yeah, like I had incidents like this in my childhood.. like doing something stupid you just don't no it's stupid yet because you're a kid and then an adult coming by grabbing you by your ears or just telling you off loudly and as a kid you feel like you've almost been eaten alive by a monster.. then the older you get, the funnier the story becomes until you get that you were in the "wrong" and you just met an adult that doesn't know how to behave around kids.

I'm one of those nosey neighbors :) it actually did come in handy . Three years ago , the man who lived across the street , was murdered in broad daylight. I remember recently I was about to enter a store, and a child just comes running out on his own. He was playful, but totally alone and about 4 or 5 years old. No one thought anything of it, but I thought, "Waitaminute, this doesn't happen. Something's up." I keep an eye on where he's running to by pulling back and observing from afar. He stopped somewhere past the store and didn't seem to know where he was going. Just then a frantic woman comes out of the store desperately calling a name over and over again. I shuffle to her and say, "right here!," pointing where the kid went. As we rushed over, I started to describe the kid in a questioning manner to get confirmation, but her senses were too heightened to pay attention. She was relieved when she found him, and showed how told him how frightened she was he just ran off like that. He was running really fast, so she probably only missed him by a split second. In the store holding him, she thanked me from afar and I gave a dorky thumbs up. Afterwards, I considered all of these things I may have done wrong; What if she didn't follow me and thought I was leading her into a trap? Why did I ask for confirmation by describing the kid? It's not like there'd be two separate lost kids at the same time in the same place. What if someone grabbed the kid while I let him get far away? It seemed like one of those close calls where something could've gone very wrong fast. If it was, how could I handle it better in the future? ...

This reminds me of a creepy incident that happened when I was in my early teens. I was walking my dog in the park and I noticed there was a white van parked outside a house. It had a taxi sign on top and although it looked kind of old, I figured the guy was just picking someone up. I went home and didn't think anything of it. The next day, I saw him there again. I thought the person in the house must have a taxi picking them up around the same time for something. The home owner left their house and walked straight past the 'taxi'. I was still trying to rationalize it by thinking it was for someone else since it was a densly populated area. This time, when I was close enough, he did call out to me. He asked me about my dog. I, still thinking my imagination was getting the best of me, stopped and told him about my dog. It was a very normal conversation. Just "oh, she looks like a sweetheart! What's her name?" Eventually, I said I had to get going and that's when I knew something was very wrong. He started calling my dog to his van. My dog was a rotty and a big one. She started pulling me towards him. I called out again, saying I had to go. He didn't even look at me and started calling my dog by name and encouraging her to keep coming. I pulled as hard as I could on the leash until she listened and followed me and immediately started power walking away, occasionally glaring back at this guy so he'd know I had I eye out in case he tried following me home. I never saw that truck again after that day. I'm now 29 and still wonder what the hell was going through his mind. Safety before propriety. better to seem 'rude' than to never come home.

@@legoh_puppy8145 I mean. If he were psychotic, a rapist, or something, for what reason would he want the dog? There's nothing you can really gain from harming an animal. As an actual sadist, albeit one who doesn't act on his desires. I can say, that with certainty. Even if i did go psycho, i wouldn't just use some random dogs. I don't hate dogs, i'm not a dog person either, i just feel meh about dogs. I don't really mind them as long as they leave me alone. And there's nothing i would gain from harming one. A dog wouldn't cry, or plead, it'd either just be quiet, or very aggressive. That's not what sadists look for. They look for crying, pleading, guilt, sadness, depression, agony, etc. So considering what i know, from actually having a similar mind to most people who would harm others... it was likely just some insane Kevin that thinks he owns everything, or something along those lines. Very evil people are out there, that i can wrap my mind round. Since, until i got a sort of therapy, from having good friends. I was almost about to go down that very same path.

This is literally my worst nightmare as a mother. My daughter didn't get off the bus after school once when she was 8; the next 3 hours I literally vividly imagined all of the horrific things that could be happening to her. At one point, I remember praying that if somebody had her, please let her die fast so they can't hurt her anymore. Thank God it turned out that she had just decided to get off at a friend's bus stop; and because the friend's parents weren't home, they didn't answer the phone or the door when I went over there in a panic to ask her mother if her daughter had seen her get off the bus. I was literally walking out the door with her last school picture to meet the police when she traipsed in the door like I hadn't just been losing my mind for the last 3+ hours, so scared of what might be happening to her that I vomited. I couldn't even spank her; all I could do was hold her and cry, and I think that made more of an impact than any punishment could have.

Three hours is an eternity in situations like that. When I was about 2 1/2 (early 70s), I disappeared from our house on a Sunday afternoon. It was an old house, and the door latch didn't always catch, so I probably just pushed the door open and went outside and who knows where else. Police were looking for me, and then our church's youth group started searching. We lived right next door to the church where my father was the minister. No one ever found me or has any idea where I was. I'd been missing for 2 hours when I walked back in the house. My mother was sitting at the dining room table crying, thinking the worst. I talked at an early age and spoke clearly at 2 1/2. I didn't make up stories. My family has always said they don't know where I was, but I just think they didn't want to believe what I told them, that I was given ice cream by some man. I wish I knew. I have no memory of this, just what I've been told.

The first thing about this story that really struck me is how in real life parents will not let you get away with saying something odd if they feel something's wrong. In movies and shows, parents often ask their adult kids (or even teens) why they look worried but never really follow up on it if the kid hesitates a bit. I get that privacy is important but sometimes instinct should take precedence as a parent, as more often than not something really is wrong with your child if you feel they're acting odd, even if they're adults.

Using his own car would be a pretty big oversight after going through all that trouble. That was "the big day" for him so he was probably the most visible, he had to be to get her. OK. Here’s a funny story for you critics. My late wife had been beaten and abused by a guy before she married me for the better part of a year. She kicked him out, so he snuck into the house and hid in the closet. When she came home he beat her savagely, he raped her and he held her at knife point and was going to kill her until there was a police standoff out front. He was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to 18 years in prison. He served six years, and got out, and no one let us know. You folks that think I’m some horrible person don’t get the point of what I had posted. Authorities, whether it be through overwork, negligence, or downright malice, don’t always do things in a way that help victims move on. They could, and have, screwed things up in such a way as I described.

@@jaytrace1006 Hey I wasn't criticizing you, but I apologize my comment comes across that way. It was 100% intended to be a joke, not any form of criticism. What happened to your late wife is atrocious, and the way her abuser release was handled is downright horrifying. I understand some of that pain, I'm also a survivor of abuse and traumatic assault, and my case was misshandled....but the comment section did not know that detail about your late wife. Your initial comment comes off as morbid humor; hence the reason people are reacting with their own morbid humor, or with negative reaction because they themselves are not comfortable with morbid humor. It is plain to see that you are still hurting over this, and rightfully so, but the original comment doesn't express the same continuity. I'd suggest editing the original comment to include your story, and hopefully avoid future heartache over ill-informed misunderstandings. Again I apologize if my comment with morbid humor was one of the entries that invoked those feelings for you. I can delete it if you wish? In any case I wish you the best, and I'm sorry about your loss 🤟

@@Neil_MALTHUS That may be true for a few of his “true” stories. However, there is a few issues with your suggestions. 1. He actually has “shorts” where he puts his own “narrative spin” on fictitious stuff I.e. moments in movies etc… he did one about “The Descent” and, 2, I’ve seen some stories he has shared, but on different “true” channels AND I’ve seen some in documentaries. 3, Putting your own “Narrative spin” on a true story that has already been told doesn’t take a whole lot of time to research. All you have to do is research a bunch of stories, give ten minutes per story to try and find a few more details and then add your own spice. With Google and Bing and whatever these days, it’s plausible he can do these videos. :)

I know, if you hid it in the first place. "because since you remember " well she doesnt remember that part. She hasnt remembered anything she didnt always remember. You didnt tell her as a child bcus you wanted her to grow up with a sense of freedom and empowerment, and that sense is what made her the adult she is. Why would you risk potentially undermining that sense of freedom and empowerment in the adult woman? Nobody wants to feel that squick of what nearly happened. The fact she went to meet him and find out tells me it wasnt a good idea to tell her or any grown woman (-- or man for that matter, if it had happened with a young boy). One's mind doesn't know what to do with such info, with sudden onset of a horrific past possibility. Its heavy. But, ok so then he tells here "Well, sure, I had planned to abduct, immobilize, terrify, slash, sexually torture, mutilate, brutally rape and eventually kill, butcher, and dissolve you and hide your remains in 5 gallon drums, of course!.. when you were EIGHT YEARS OLD..."....then what? She gets the last laugh ie your rotting here and never laid hands on me. But he had played eyes on her. She was winning better when she didnt even know who he was. The best part about her being saved from his intentions is not only preserving her life and safety, but preserving in her that sense of security most ppl have even as adults, except those who have suffered and survived or brushed close (maybe too close?) to terrible things.
