In my mind ukigumo is the best at its peak variegation. I don't think the plant could survive if it looked like that every year, so I like that it can revert to a normal plant under normal conditions.

So, I bought a variegated Goshiki Kotohime just watching to catch info on how variegation happens and how to keep it that way.

I haven’t seen that one be truly variegated. Sometimes goshiki kotohime can get a flaking look into it but it isn’t consistent

They are typically very durable but try Mikawa yatsubusa it’s one of my favorites

Greetings, I just purchased a 10 ft Beni Shichihenge which has one beautiful branch that is a butterfly, I see that neither is on your list. I would really like to know how you feel about this Beni Shichihenge, it has a wonderful form (you won't hurt my feelings is you think it's not a good one...it will be close to a MoonFire)...what do you think about 2 different varieties in one tree. BtW I love my Amber Ghost, one of my favorites..I do have Purple and Sister as well.

Great plant we hair chose the broom from it called ‘Pink Princess’ instead for our list but it’s my mother’s favorite tree

@@MrMapleShow OK, great....but what is your thoughts on it being reverted to 1/3 a Butterfly JP, do you think it's okay?

They don’t revert to ‘Butterfly’ they lose the pink as spring ends and they look very similar after the bright pink stage. The two are close for sure but not the same. Likely just a branch reaching summer colors faster. We actually talk about this in our top 50 pink podcasts we filmed today :)

@@MrMapleShow Thank you so much, that's what I thought too contemplating if I should make the purchase but the manager said he thought it reverted to Butterfly...it's a beautiful form...I always seek trees that are the largest I can fit in my cargo van since I'm 70 I just don't feel I can wait for the 10 gals to mature if not for my age I'd make the trip to NC and load my van with 10 gals...so appreciate you guys and many thanks for taking the time and response.
