I took the time to jot my carry distance on all clubs and avg distance on all clubs. Then 3/4 swing distance on all clubs (except Driver), and 1/2 swing distance on 7 iron through 60° wedge. Got back into golf 2022. First time golfing since saying "I do." ;) Lowered handicap from 30 to 18 at the start of 2022 to end of 2022. Looking to get back to 8 handicap, or better again.

Great tip. I tend to pull the ball left on the approach shots. I´ve been opening the club face to reduce the draw, but still setting up square to target.

This is exactly how I like to hit a lot of my wedge shots. Back in my stance with everything basically square except for the clubface being a little open. They still come out lower but with a ton of spin! Good stuff bud 🤘⛳️🧙‍♂️

Some people don't seem to get the point of this video. Most clubs will get you 100yds depending on the swing. He is saying use the most comfortable club & swing FOR YOU to get you to 100yds...ie your 'stock shot' you can repeat. By opening the club face, closing the stance & swinging to the left, you end up with a straight'ish shot but with a swing that is more forgiving. You need to practice to see how much closed stance & open club head that suits you. Both are not exaggerated but minor changes.

Enjoying your videos. I have a request for a video or a series of videos. I'm basically self-taught from books and articles years ago. But I have taken a few lessons and I'm watching videos now a days. My wife (66 years old) is trying to learn golf - 2 or 3 years. So far I have not been able to get her to take lessons. She wants me to help her (by the way, it is a bad idea to every try and teach a family member). I really don't know enough about what I'm doing and she has issues to deal with that are not the normal for the average golfer. So far I have not been able to find videos or articles addressing these. Hope you can help. 1. She is short and stout - 4'11". 2. She has erosive osteoarthritis very bad in her back and hands. 3. Her fingers / knuckles look a lot like rheumatoid arthritis. 4. Because of the arthritis she does not have a lot of strength in her hands and does not get a lot of rotation. 5. She has large breasts that get in the way. What we have done to try and help is: 1. She wears Bionic ReliefGrip Golf Gloves on both hands. 3. She uses a baseball grip as she cannot interlock or overlap without pain. 4. We have oversize grips. 5. She wears a velcro waist band while playing. If you could work in a series of lessons all the way through driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, short irons, basically everything; I think you would address an audience that probably needs help. Thanks for your consideration.

Today I'm off to play what will be my 6th game of golf in two weeks after a 33 year hietus, and I'm struggling more than I thought I would with this. Thank you so much for the lesson! I started at the range in December last year, and joined a municipal course a couple of weeks ago, (just to get going again) but it's been so long since I played I'd forgotten all of this from my lessons in the '80s. Here in Scotland we're playing off mats as the ground is frozen solid, and it's like playing on concrete, the winter greens are awful and it's like putting on glass with tree seeds all over it, so I'm shooting an average of 93, but I'm absolutely loving it! Once again, thank you very much for making these videos! Great lesson! 🙏🏻

Very similar circumstances for me. I left the game for 25 years and just picked it up again in the spring of 2022. The first thing I noticed was how much the equipment has changed. Instead of playing my ancient Ping Eye 2's and persimmon Titleist driver and 3 wood I decided to buy a whole new set - irons, driver, 3 wood, and rescue wood. I eventually also bought a new Taylor Made Spider X putter. For the first month I would go out and hit a bucket of balls at the range twice a week. I did not dare step on to the 1st tee, I was terrified. Soon, I started to reintroduce myself to the game and finally got to the point where I felt I could play a round. That first round was exhilarating, I had forgotten how much I love the game of golf. I didn't do too well, but I didn't care. I had so much fun I couldn't wait to go back out again. It's now early 2023 and I have to say that I have progressed quite a bit. I am now on my second set of irons (Taylor Made P-790's) and have added a Taylor Made gap wedge and a sand wedge. I try to play at least twice a week and spend two days at the range. When I was young I never practiced and my scores were all over the place - one day I would shoot 77 and on another day 85. No consistency at all. Now that I practice regularly I break 80 on every round and have a handicap of 2. Practice is the key! I also study my performance on the course. I keep records on a spread sheet of my scores, fairways hit, greens in regulation, and number of putts per hole and per round. By doing this I focus on problem areas and this has helped a lot. Good luck with your re-entry into the game. Have a little patience, work at your game, and practice whenever you can. The investment in time and effort will pay off. Oh, and practice with a purpose. Don't just go out and hit 70 balls and call it a day. Add some structure to your practice sessions to help you work out the kinks in your game. Cheers!

@@es2056 I'm actually in the 80's now. 83 being my best. I ended up buying an expensive driver, 3 wood and 3 wedges, 50, 54 and 60, that made a huge difference! I went with PXG for all of them. Love them! I think I really need a better putter, did you notice a big difference with yours? My irons are cheap, but my wife bought them for my Xmas, so I'm going to put them to good use for her, at least for this year... I too make notes of everything, I'm making a case study of every aspect of my game, and really re-learning a lot about the different conditions, because here in Scotland they change from hour to hour, never mind day to day!

What is your opinion on the old school pitch shot? Face open 10 degree right and stand 10 deg left and swing thru. balls goes high and lands soft and very accurate in direction and distance. Seems to work pretty well to me for like 54 deg wedge to like a 8i; do not seem to work with more loft or longer club. Not sure what is the "science" behind this shot. Needs to practice, believe and commit to the shot.

I get where you're coming from, but the advice as I see it is to aim right to get you to stay down on the ball, which in turn causes you to "cover" the ball and then to compensate for that you need to open the face to get a correct distance? Seems like a lot of fixes that need to be balanced out!

The clue is in the title. These are THE 3 things a high handicapper should NEVER do. 1. high handicappers NEVER even reach the green with their 100 yard shot. They always come-up short. (unless they thin it over the back) 2. A lead foot forward will NEVER make a high handicapper stay-down through the ball (like a pro). It will cause them to swing from out to in. and 3 the perfect storm - opening that club face - and the high handicapper will see that ball sail 70 yards out to the right and OOB. A worst video for high handicappers and middle handicappers to soon become high.

Think about the swing while swinging? Aiming to the right and open the face? With all respect, I completely disagree. In my opinion everyone should have a number and a safe spot on the green. Then pull the right club and shoot this distance. Most people can't close the clubface and slice so practice face angle and do not set up to the right , otherwise you will come massively over the top and won't make ball contact!

Sorry. Not good advice. It’s better to practice with 9 iron and your wedges. Your 100 yard shot will be different for each club. Half swing, 3 quarter, full, one inch chocked-up. If you practice your distances on the range with different length swings, you’ll get where you need to be. If the wind is blowing off the sea, I’m certainly not going to hit a full gap wedge into that green. It’s gonna be more like a chocked-up 9 with a half swing. Maybe back in my stance a bit too, in order to keep the ball flight down.

Some of the worst info I’ve seen bro. The complete opposite of what the best players in the world are doing thinking and saying. A 100 yard “swing” isn’t going 100 yards when you have 4 iron. Facts are guys use different lofts to control spin and launch. So there’s no “100 yard swing” 99.9% of the tour pros are open in the lower body from 100 yards.

To be fair, we're not tour pro's either. The vast majority of golfers can't hit a standard 100 yard shot, what he's explaining is how to get that in your locker first before doing the other parts. I agree with the open stance if a good player, but I can also see his logic.
@jwild5360
@jwild5360 Жыл бұрын
@@James__123 the reason for the open stance is to allow for more rotation through the ball so you can hit the shot with the big muscles. Closing the stance does the complete opposite. It’s just purely bad info through and through. The guys not on tour are already way to steep and hard left through impact with wedges.
