Step by step guide on how to install a 2 inch Rough Country Leveling Kit, on your Jeep Grand Cherokee. Very detailed guide. Any questions leave them in the comment section and I'll get back to you. All done with no lift, on the floor, using hand tools. Took 4 hours.
Torque specs
Axle nut 150 lbs
Tie rod 70 lbs
Upper ball 75 lbs
Lower ball 80 lbs
Sway bar link 65 lbs
Lower strut bolt 150 lbs
These are what I found online from multiple websites to confirm. My friend at the dealer retired so I can't get 100% numbers. After I drove 500 miles I rechecked all the nuts and bolts again.

I finally got it! This project took me 14 hours to complete nonstop. Ended up having to take both cv axles out. Also had to take off both lower control arms off just to get the struts in place. Then of course the unexpected always happens. Since I’m a complete amateur, I put the struts on the wrong side(passenger strut switched to drivers side and vice versa) because I didn’t mark them when I pulled them out. And of course I totally shredded the strut top bolts treads when trying to cut them with bolt cutters. Luckily I was able to salvage 2 on each strut. This was not a easy task but…… I’m absolutely in love with the look of the Jeep. This video helped a lot. Thanks Mr V.

@@MrV2u Appreciate you, unfortunately I’m going to have to do it again soon. Most of my cv boots were busted and leaking grease everywhere . Then I installed the struts on the wrong sides. I believe I’ll be replacing both cv axles and getting new struts with a new leveling kit in a few months and redo the whole thing. At least I know what to expect. My JGC has a 153,000 miles on it.
@MrV2u
@MrV2u Жыл бұрын
@@wilder211 the struts on the wrong side isn’t going to do any damage. The leaking cv shafts will be a issue for sure though. If you want to spend more money check on bilstein struts. I forget the model off hand but then you won’t need a lift as they can be adjusted a couple inches higher and give you a lift. Then all you have to do is get a lift of equal height for the rear end.

Awesome video brother, very detailed and A1. I will be installing these in two weeks but I recently replaced both hub assemblies and I didn’t put those washers back between the spindle and hub bearing assembly. @MrV2u

It’s basically a shim. It keeps everything from fusing together. It shouldn’t be the cause of your vibrations. Did you torque everything down? Did you get a wheel alignment? Is it a bad vibration? How are your tie rod’s?

Great vid man. I'm on the fence of doing this myself, or paying a fortune to have a shop do it.. My question though: everyone seems to like the Rocky Road lift vs. Rough Country. Do you have an opinion on brand? Also, I'm not sure if I need spacers only or control arms + spacers for front and back. I want a 2.5" overall lift, currently stock on 20" rims - I need more clearance for trails and want some bigger wheels on there. That's all I need the lift / spacers for.
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 5 жыл бұрын
Splatacular It’s not a bad job doing the leveling kit yourself. If your going with the lift it’s more involved. You will need to take down your springs off the strut. I’ve had rough country on my older Jeep’s. Never had a problem. I can only attest to the rough country system. I would add spacers front and back. Bora from what I can find in the forums makes good quality spacers. Glad you liked the video as well brother. Stay tuned more to come. Any other questions let me know.

Stupid question but did you grab it and give it a real sharp and quick pull? It should pop right out! If not try to get under the Jeep and if you have a long punch or chisel put it against it and hit it with a hammer a couple times. A big C-clip holds it in place. Carry The Zero basically on our jeeps your going to get a 32 inch tires under the Jeep. That also depends on the rim your going with and if you want to do pinch weld mods and or cut inner fenders and bumpers. It’s a much tighter fit than my old wk. I had a 265/70R17 tire mounted on a pro comp rim mounted on my Jeep and it wouldn’t fit. The rims I have push the tire out from under the fenders. So I’m just running stock size Goodyear DuraTracs. Maybe in the future I’ll put a real lift on it. It’s still to new to go off roaming with it now. As far as headlights, my boy got a pair of OEM HID headlight assemblies for 600 and they also require the wiring harness for 800. In my opinion I’d rather spend money elsewhere on the Jeep lol. They do look good for sure.

I am getting 275/55 BFG KO2 20s and know that I will at least need the leveling kit but was also thinking of going with the lift and level. I did not see that you needed a spring compression for the level kit only in this video BUT in the lift&level kit the instructions say that you will need a spring compressor. Have you done a life/level or just the level only? Any recommendations for tackling the lift&level on my own?
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 4 жыл бұрын
For the level you don’t need a spring compressor. You will definitely need one to do the 2.5 lift. You can borrow one for free at advanced auto or autozone. You need to be very careful when you do it on your own because your compressing a spring with a lot of force and you don’t want it to slip off and cause injury lol. If your careful you will be ok. Also if you want you can just do everything else and take your struts and springs to a shop and have them mount the plates in for you. Here’s the directions from Rough Country if you haven’t seen them yet. s3.amazonaws.com/roughcountry/install/921603000A.pdf

One last question Mr.V. Do you have the issue to where your impact wrench will beat up and chew up the bolt head when using to loosen a bolt? It seems like my ryobi impact wrench chews up and start to round any bolt it touches. Seems like the ryobi almost destroyed my upper control arm bolt? Or is this normal for impact wrenches?
@MrV2u
@MrV2u Жыл бұрын
Make sure you have the right size socket on it and it shouldn’t tear anything up. Metric vs standard has a tiny bit of difference. Also make sure your hitting it from straight on and not an angle. I’ve used air impacts with 1000’s of pounds of torque and never chewed up any nuts or bolts. One more thing are you using impact sockets and not just chrome sockets. Impact sockets are black and built to be used with an impact wrench.

Have some one so it for you and you get underneath and look at your ball joints for play. Then have them grab the tire and rock it side to side and look at your tie rod. There should be no play anywhere. Let me know what you find.

Nice vid brother! I just installed the RRO leveling kit on my wife's WK2 but now I'm experiencing a half an inch lean towards the driver side. I don't know if it has always had the lean and I'm just noticing it because I was measuring the leveling kit... But has anyone experienced this, is it normal?
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve never heard of anyone with similar issues. You can check tire pressure just in case, how many miles you have on the Jeep, if a lot the springs can over time sag as they wear out, could also be a defective level kit. Who installed the lift? How long since they did it? If not that long ago take it back. Also was the ground level where you measured it? Let me know how you make out brother.

@MrV2u
@MrV2u 4 жыл бұрын
Yovani Botello first I would lift the Jeep, Depending on what you want to do, such as off roading or just for looks. The lift determines the tire size, also the bigger the tire the more gas you consume as well as poorer performance unless you got a 8 cylinder. With my leveling kit and rims I just put on I can safely put a 32-33 inch tire on it. Also the bigger the rim the lower the profile tire you’d have to run with. I stayed with 17 inch rims so I can have as much tire as possible on it. Hope that answers some of your questions if not let me know so I can answer more.
@MrYovani07
@MrYovani07 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrV2u ok .yeah I want more tire so I'll just keep it at 17 and yes I only want it for looks . Is the gas a big difference if I put a 33 tires?
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 4 жыл бұрын
Yovani Botello you’ll loose about 2-3 mpg. I’m going with 265/70R17 Goodyear duratrac tire. That comes out to about a 32.5 inch tire. Good looks and it’s good tire for slight mud, rain, ice and snow. I had it on my old Jeep and it handled everything flawlessly. It’s one of the few tires that is snow and ice rated. It also has long thread life which is another thing to be concerned about. You can do what I did in this video and you’ll be good to go. 2 inch leveling kit from rough country. If you want to go bigger then you’ll have to get a 2 -2 1/2 inch lift all around.
