That's a pin and it was used to hold the rope seal and they always had a pin for the rope seal. I drove my pin out and cranked the cap so be careful.

They work ok in the old day so with the later seals you would have to pop that pin

302 and 351 Australian Cleveland are the same block , its just the 302c has a 3 inch stroke , 6 inch rods , same 4 inch block and closed chamber 2v heads even when they came with a four barrel carbie !
