First of all, the entire Spanish language is not going to change to suit this modern generation of young folks. I get that they have issues with things that are male dominant, but this whole LatinX thing is silly, in my opinion, in light of the fact that a gender neutral word already exists that Latinos and Latinas can use. Are ya ready for it? Latin. Just plain old Latin. It has existed for who knows how many centuries in the English language without controversy. It can be used by males, females, those in between, those on the edges, those still figuring it out, everyone. Latin. Simple solution. If you don't want to use proper Spanish then just use the English word, "latin" and stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

As a Latino, I despise this word not because of what it represents in terms of inclusivity, but because it is counterproductive to its purpose. The argument is it "brings visibility" but rather Latinx makes it harder than ever for anyone to talk about Latinos. Latinks? Latinex? Latinekis? I'd rather just not try in fear of getting it wrong. If you create a brand, the sure way to fail is to create a name that is hard to say. This "brand" will die off for that reason.

Im neither conservative nor liberal so here is my view: Latin, Hispanic, Indigenous, country of origin (Mexican, Colombian, Ecuadorian, Dominican as examples), Spanish, these are inclusive terms, why do we need another? As someone who is Indigenous (brown skin) I don't identify as "Hispanic" or "Latino" let alone "Latinx." There is no Indigenous tribe that was named the "Latinos" before Christopher's arrival. That's a European term & so "Latinx" at its core is a European/white term. To correct the guest speaker, the most marginalized people in so called "Latin America" (anywhere in the "Americas") are Indigenous people, not LGBTQ people. I refused Latino & Hispanic in the 90s & now I refuse "Latinx." My people are continuously being rebranded: Indio, Native American, Country of conquest (Mexican, Guatemalan, Salvadorean as examples), Latino, Hispanic & now Latinx, I don't need to be renamed. My history & plight is valued far less than that of the LGBTQ community from "inclusives" & that lack of historical compassion & understanding makes these people racist to me. I refuse to be rebranded!

The term "latinx" in Spanish is idiotic and makes no sense whatsoever. It's sounds completely stupid when pronounced in Spanish. If you try to pronounce "latinx" in Spanish, as it is written, you get a word that sounds like "la-teenks". It's basically unpronouncable in Spanish. It also breaks all of the grammatical rules regarding plurality It's completely alien and incongruent to Spanish. Stop using it.
