I took a course on Iraq in college. I thought it was about the country in general, not just the US invasions. My best buddy in that class was a 40yo black dude named Danny who was a veteran and would light up the liberal arts degree professor trying to badmouth the justification of 2 wars he was in. She’d start getting times lines and facts sort of wrong and he’d just be like “oh boy” and interject. Nothing would get done and it was always funny watching a stubborn old black dude tell her the deal. He’d catch me before class and be like “you believe the dumb shit she had us read”. Right or wrong, Danny was the shit.

The most telling part of this story is the part where Matt admitted that he had a misconception about race in America, spent time with a black person, learned, realized he was wrong, corrected his behavior, and the classes response was to criticize that. That tells you what it's really about. That tells you what they really think and why they think it.

People like that always have to take the high ground, which means they have to find something to attack you over. That's why they're insufferable to anyone who's not directly in the same line of thinking as them, and it's why cancel culture is starting to backfire. To expect humans to be perfect is insane. Most of them aren't religious and make fun of religion for being judgmental but then the second someone makes a mistake regarding one of their stupid social justice causes they grab their torch and pitchforks. I will never understand that mentality.

@@lukekenny4731Not sure if you watched (and I agree about how most old Jewish men live) but in show he didn’t want Leons family at his house. His wife takes them in and gets happens to form a bond with Leon, due in part to their similarities and sense of humor (also Leon just wont leave) but it is a commentary on Larry not wanting to take them in and getting a beat friend because he was forced to interact. I honestly never thought of it like this till I read your comment but I respect that character duo more now. That being said his wife brought them in, it was not Larry electing to have Leon as a roommate, so your point is missing the context to be a solid counter.

I remember one college class we were talking about stereotypes and why they exist and I brought up how people probably took one trip to Asia and thought that they don’t follow traffic rules they must be bad drivers. Teacher immediately jumped on me for giving any reasoning for stereotyping lol.

My theory on why people (who have actually hung out with black people) can tell africans from american black people is because when theyre from Africa, they're usually a single ethnicity (100% Nigerian, 100% Kenyan, etc.) while American black people were mixed together after the slave trade. Its like you can tell they're amerocan because they dont look like any specific nationality. Which is honestly the same as American whites or some immigrant from some soviet country or some rural European place.

Also most African Americans have around a 1/4 European ancestry. If you ever see black people do 23 and me they tend to have 30-15% white dna, which makes them look distinct from fully west Africans
