Space Mutiny was filmed in South Africa. All space-battle footage is from Battlestar Galactica (1978). Several shots of the Galactica itself are shown in reverse.The movie was filmed mostly in a factory warehouse. Aware that the numerous large windows with daylight pouring through would spoil the illusion of the Southern Sun actually being in space, cinematographer Vincent G. Cox used color filters to give the sunlight an orange-red look, and asked David Winters to insert a line explaining that the windows were actually part of the Southern Sun's engines and/or reactor system. Unfortunately, the film processing lab mistakenly corrected the sunlight back to its original color, and Winters' replacement, Neal Sundstrom, never added any explanation for why the windows were there.The sequences with the Bellerians were added in post-production after the initial cut of the movie came in too short. Neither David Winters nor Neal Sundstrom wanted to come back to direct the sequences, so David A. Prior was hired to direct them instead.

I love how there's a literal mutiny happening on the ship and they're all having drinks and partying.

Here's a scary thought: There were scenes on the cutting room floor which got rejected, which didn't rise to the high standards of the makers of this film.

"Put your helmet on, we'll be reaching speeds of three." This glorious disaster of a film never fails to entertain me.

This, in my opinion, is the ultimate episode of MST3K. Space Mutiny has the perfect blend of 80's shlock, bad action movie cliches, hammy overacting, and ridiculous dialogue that makes in an absolute comedy goldmine for riffs. Yet, the film is just competent enough to not feel like an absolute bore to get through. The riffs are just absolutely brilliant throughout the whole episode. I know a lot of people love Manos, and I do too, but the film itself is so broken and inept that it really drags at some points (as shown by Joel's famous "DO SOMETHING!" riff). I'd say Manos is the 2nd best of the Joel era (I Accuse My Parents taking the #1 spot) but Space Mutiny is truly the best overall. The Sci-Fi era really had some amazing episodes.

A moment of space silence for the April 23 2019 passing of director David Winters. He's throwing angels over railings now! All seriousness aside, he was A-rab in West Side Story, where he was noticed by a young Vincent Furnier (a.k.a Alice Cooper) who would later employ the dancer/choreographer to help invent the theatrical rock concert. Also David was instrumental in introducing Alice to his wife of 40+ years.

I love how they had to make Calgon ALSO greedy. "I want to set foot on a real world" was just too relatable and not cartoony enough.

The "exciting" climax at the end with the bumper cars absolutely kills me every time. I am in tears.

I like how in that chase scene with the go-karts where the woman is shooting at them the guy doing the "special effects" didn't know the plot so sometimes they'd draw the lasers shooting at the good guy

It was a clip from this episode, a compilation of all the nicknames, that a friend showed me which introduced and led me to become a fan of the show. I owe the last 10 years of laughter to MST3K: Space Mutiny.

The many names of David Ryder are justly famous, but the string of Santa gags right after 47:00 made me laugh-cry almost as hard. "Someone DID leave a cookie out for me!"

That Reb Brown squeal/scream is just the best thing ever.

I love that the climax was with those ridiculous "Enforcer" go carts. It's amazing how people's brains work. Someone thought this would pass as buyable.

Elijah- aka slick back black haired villian, died in 2008 at the age of 70 of pancreatic cancer. He was fluent in English, Spanish, French, Italian and German language. He is also known for Barbarella .

As kid in the 90s this was the best thing around.

In the beginning, when Pearl asked Brain Guy, the Observer, to 'bring Mike down' it could have been a great fourth wall breaking moment if they dropped a boom microphone into the shot.

Holy shit. According to Wikipedia, Cissy Cameron (a.k.a. Grandma-Daughter) was only *34* when this movie was made. Big McLargehuge is *_SIX_* years older than she is! BTW, Reb Brown ended up marrying her...

this movie is so chock full of amazing riffs, but to me one of the funniest things in the whole film is how they laugh at the beginning after the Santa guy says "WHAT THE HELL'S GOING ON OUT THERE!?"

My favourite MST episode ever. Absolutely wonderful, brilliant riffs, the movie just keeps on giving. The cast are electric in this one

I love how this movie blatantly stole the Battlestar Galactica space ships and sound effects. Not just ripped off, but ACTUAL footage and sound clips from BSG.

I think this is one of the few mst3k episodes that are like wall to wall jam packed with laugh out loud quips. like it’s the michael jordan of mat3k. yes there are many many excellent and hilarious episodes but this one just feels next level with the sheer amount of quips, and quips that really land
