They do have more on Netflix, kickstarted some recent seasons, and Joel is working to start his own special streaming service where they will make more eps :) Or if you want this cast check out Riff Trax, the crew still does riffing, just not in character as crow and the gang. Even do live shows that are often in theaters, though depending on where you are that may not be an option. But because of the nature of the new stuff they can do modern movies without getting in trouble, so if you want to see them rip apart twilight, you can have it ^_^

I strongly encourage you check out Rifftrax. Same cast, same show, just without the silhouettes on screen. It took me years to give it a shot bc it "Isn't MST3K" but I'm glad I did. Same quality just very slightly different presentation. I would also advise not watching the Netflix season(s). They aren't terrible but it's just too different (if that makes any sense).

"Diabolik" is actually based off an Italian comic book series, and in many ways is rather similar to Deadpool, i.e. an anti-hero who isn't really a 'good guy' but isn't the villain either. They also both have a rather ninja-y way about them.

In fact; I have similar feelings concerning Joel's "Mitchell" episode. So hilarious but I get misty-eyed when Joelie ends up leaving his "children". I think Jonah has duplicates (with memory back ups from the originals), the Bots still live with Mike and Joel visits on a regular basis OR even becomes Mike's room mate. One thing about Mike that's depressing is that his character (and his family) will be responsible for destroying Earth and that's an awfully grim premise. I like to think that the Ape Planet isn't what it seems, is just some island or patch of land, the rest of Earth is like "Star Trek" and the Sapient Apes are too dumb or deluded to realize it (and the bomb was a regular Atom bomb that only blew up that one area). Why not? MST3K thrives on subversion and homages to Sci-Fi stuff! Why not subvert the premise of "THE PLANET OF THE APES". I hate Downer Endings!

@@37view37 Heck; I did one better and it could be canon as well; Remember the episode where Mike & The Bots are flying though space and listen to really hokey-sounding Country music on the radio?... ...It's other humans! Humanity survived, mastered interstellar travel and colonized other planets, taking their culture, media and music with them. The super-apes opted to stay put on Earth. ---- Also; Some of those future folks really like Country music in that part of space and that genre is considered "High Culture" in the same way we think of Shakespeare (was actually considered raunchy and low-class in his time, like today's soap operas or reality shows) and Jazz music (Started as music for raunchy sleazy bars and brothels) today. ---- Mike's descendants simply created a race of extra-sapient apes and did not actually make humanity extinct. These apes are still rather dumb and I doubt they would've been that great at wiping out humans.

Great that there was a "Prince of Space" reference, but I can't believe they made no Kalgan references from Space Mutiny!

Always a delight rewatching MST3K and getting references you missed before...they blindsided me right out of the gate with "Oh my...The Two Fat Ladies have their own gang now!"

The movie is based on a very popular pulp Italian comic book series about a master thief. So no, not at all based on James Bond.

Tom: That means we're heading to Earth. Mike: Earth. That's my home (pause) isn't it? I love that Mike had to think about that.

Diabolik is actually a cool movie, great aesthetic. And it’s got an Ennio Morricone score. Also at 34:30 the mob boss has a huge cold sore

Okay, my theory on how Mike, Tom, Crow and Gypsy were able to survive the crashlanding of the SOL: By a bizarre coincidence, what Joel never told ANYBODY, neither Tom, nor Crow, nor Gypsy nor any of the Mads, was that after TV's Frank, in his cheap Arby's mindset, made an incredibly idiotic attempt to bring the Satellite of Love to Earth, Joel went to extreme measures to create a way for he and his friends to survive, should the ship crash into Earth. From after "Rocketship X-M," all the way to before "Mitchell," when he was sent back to Earth in the escape pod, conveniently hidden in the box of hamdingers, he built something with extra parts found in the ship that nobody bothered to use, and the last couple dozen pieces that controlled when the movies start and/or finish to ensure survival: a survival pod, set to activate if the ship is about to finally crash. From the events of the eighth season to immediately after the events of "Squirm," but just before the events of "Diabolik," Crow's Nanites, at times, helped improve the pod getting it ready to go as they had a nervous feeling that the Satellite of Love's destruction was going to happen soon. When Mike, Tom, Crow, and Gypsy screamed at 1:29:55, with the ship burning up and about to crash, the survival pod is activated, with the four strapped in and sedated; Mike's case with a needle and Tom, Gypsy, and Crow with digital sedation. Cambot thankfully survived. The ship crashes and the survival pod, a sphere, launches before the crash and safely lands in the wreckage. A few hours later, they wake up... and see that a video is playing... of Joel, revealing this: "Welcome. This is the Satellite of Love's Emergency Survival Pod. Now listen: I designed and built this, from the last couple dozen pieces, the ones which were going to be used to control the start and end of those bad movies, which I also built YOU from, and some of the ship's backup pieces that was kept in the event of an emergency. I'm sorry I never told any of you this, but I did it for a reason: to save you. If this is activated, then the Satellite of Love has been completely destroyed, and this has saved you. And some advanced technology helped improve it. If I escaped, then if you see me again, be sure to thank me for ensuring your safety... especially after Frank tried to kill us all those years ago on the Satellite Of Love, when he tried to bring us down for dinner. And to Tom, Gypsy, Crow, and either me or maybe my replacement should I escape back to Earth... congratulations on surviving the worst films of all time. I thank you." The message ends, the doors open, and they escape. Mike goes out first, though with some difficulty for a couple of seconds... and gets nauseated. The non-canonical visit from 2008 was a dream Crow had while they were sedated. And the final scene takes place in November 1999, and by then, they made an agreement: though they'll be watching a few great films and be quiet, sometimes they could watch terrible films but make great jokes.
