Tore my Troy built storm 2410 cleaned carb put it all back together with the same rough results. I looked for a better video and came across yours. Much more in depth. You pointed out ports to clean the other guys didn't. Ripped it apart for the second time cleaned what was missed, fired her up and runs like a champ. Thank you Wild Bill !! Will be definitely subscribing to your channel!!

Excellent video. I want add to my solution to correcting the surging idle on my 2011 Troy-Bilt Storm 2410 snow blower which has existed since I purchased it new from Lowe's in Nov '10. The engine is the same 179cc "early" version that is addressed in this video. My snow blower has always been stored indoors and properly winterized each Spring, but has had a "surging" idle since new. The engine starts easily, and runs fine under load (with partial choke). I have simply tolerated the surging idle until I ran across several KZfaq videos addressing idle surge in the Troy-Bilt Storm 2410. After watching a couple of videos suggesting that a clogged idle jet will cause this issue, I decided to investigate. Following another video for disassembly of the engine control shroud, and especially removal of the elusive lower starter switch screw to release the RH corner of the shroud, I gained access to the carburetor Idle Stop Adjusting Screw, and the Idle Jet Assembly without having to fully remove the carburetor. Sure enough, the air bleed hole in the idle jet was plugged -- not with varnish or debris, but rather with BRASS -- the idle jet was faulty from the factory! Based on other videos which cautioned against enlarging the hole diameter more than .040", I used a #64 (.036") drill bit remove the brass in the center of this jet which I believe missed its component production "drill" process during manufacturing in China -- undoubtedly along with several hundred other jets in the same "batch". After reassembling the carburetor shroud and exhaust heat shield, I fired the engine up and was treated to the pleasant sound of an idle that was smoother than a baby's bottom! AND, it only took me 13+ years to figure out the cause, and get it corrected -- we get so-o-o-o-o schmart, so-o-o-o late!! 🤔🥶😠

Great video...I seem to have the exact carb. Was not easy to get to on the Bolens 22" snowblower so I start off just trying to clean the bowl and main jet. Of course it's never that easy for me and I had to dig down to the idle air jet/screw. It was the only thing that was plugged up on my snowblower and would cause the snowblower to surge (about once ever 1.5 seconds) when choke was off. If I left the choke half way on there was no surging. I had a hard time cleaning whatever was blocking that air jet...I even tried using an 1/8 resistor wire but it would just bend. Ultimately I used a hypodermic needle I had left over from allergy shots years ago. It was small and sharp enough to break through it...but took me about an hour of soaking in carb cleaner and punching out with the needle to get it cleared.

Good video. I also liked the Techumsech carb video, very clear and easy to follow. About these honda clone carbs... worth to remember that these costs less than 10usd delivered from china. The quality might be what ever, so better to have these few on the shelf just in case. And you can find the carb repair kits from i.e. ebay. But once again, better to get whole carb instead of spending time to fix the old one

Good video. Clear, useful, and thorough. A number of the videos about cleaning this carburetor omit cleaning the idle jet, which is an important step to prevent surging at idle. Well done! Do you experience problems with o-rings swelling when carb cleaner gets on them? I have seen this several times. Now I keep the o-rings away from carb cleaner as much as I can. That seems to work well. With respect to rebuild kits for these carburetors, they can be both hard to find AND more expensive than a new carburetor. There's always something, right? Thanks. 👍

Where can I find new gaskets and rings? As you said, rebuild kits are impossible to find.

Mine was doing the exact same thing...surging about once every 1.5 seconds. Everything in the carb bowl and main jets looked perfect and brand new...I had to tear apart everything to get to that air jet/plug. Wild_Bill is exactly right...extremely small opening that I ultimately had to use a hypodermic needle to get through the blockage. Took about 5 rounds of soaking and poking to finally get it cleared and looking like new. After I put everything back together it ran perfectly...no surging etc. What was odd is when it was surging the governor spring was just flip/flopping back and forth. When I held that still with a screw driver the snowblower ran perfectly...so I was thinking maybe it was a weak spring on the governor...but ultimately it was the air jet/plug that he talks about around the 13:40 mark. Amazing how that being blocked caused the snowblower to surge non-stop.
