It's funny because I just recently got involved in Magic after about a 10-year hiatus and when deciding what deck to build, I noticed a lot of zombie cards in the latest expansions, so I decided to build a zombie deck. Well, turns out it's the #2 biggest standard meta deck at the moment. Damn, guess I'm a net decker now.

They usually are. Just tell them kindly to take a shower before they come, put on fresh clothes instead of talking behind their backs. Like, how are you expecting any change if you don't adress it? And blaming them for spreading diseases, then going on about health care etc... You know, logical conclusions.

Frankly, I don't understand what all this bad publicity about netdecking is. I am a returning player since 1 month, having sold all his MTG collection. Didn't play Magic since 2004 and have absolutely no idea about how the game plays nowadays. So, as I just wanted to get back as quickly and economically as possible, I looked up for some budget decks on the Net, of which I liked the way they played, and bought them. And the first person who would tell me it's wrong, well... It's her opinion, and I've got mine. In time, when I have got enough of a collection, I will build my own decks. But at this moment, the situation perfectly satisfies me :)

Alexandre Stoyanov The term net decker generally refers to the guys that go on MTG goldfish to check the top standing decks from a tournament and pay big bucks to build them all the while thinking they're hot shit at FNM. So long story short you're good since it's only budget brews.

At my old LGS, people told me a really cool way that a lot of people do the split the packs thing: When the record is the same and you're bound to get the same record, not necessarily the victory record, ask the split the packs and just play a casual game. Whoever wins gets the record, but you both get equal packs. You're still playing the game and having fun, but you both still get some packs. It's been a while since I've been to an LGS, and I'm not in the same state, so I'll probably never do it, but I just thought this was a nice way of doing it.

I pretty much only play NPC decks because I find them to be more fun to play than the top tier decks. There is nothing more satisfying than dominating someone playing some bullshit with an army of commons and uncommons that they forgot existed in a set.

This is not a complaint nor am I offended because Im not a douche or bitch. I have something to say about #0, I am one of those people that play the tier two fringe decks, I love playing the off key decks. One of the times I was X-0 in an WNM (modern) I was so happy to be up for #1 in the finals. I went up to my opponent who also was the same way and we both decided to split and then played anyway to see who would win because us being in the top 5 was magical and we didn't want to be pushed out due to tie breakers. Splitting isn't something I generally like but in a fun setting I believe its ok because he benefited and I benefited and yet still was able to see how we could improve our decks and play styles. Other than that your opinion is not offensive and I respect your ideas and agree with everything you are saying .
@warmachine8006

I like and agree with almost all of these points, except for your #0. I think that if the top finishers decide that they want to split the winnings then they should be able to do that. Its not like someone else who didn't finish on top was going to get them if they played it out. The same people would win packs from the same prize pool. The only difference would be how many packs those players got after agreeing to split them evenly.
@matthewlucera2289

I don't think I ever would have guessed that people had a problem with it. Usually it's somebody that you're friendly with and you've accomplished what you came to do so you and your friend both get to walk out early and leave winners. Doesn't affect anybody else. More often we'll split then play a game for the W but sometimes peeps just want to get home early.

I played against a girl at FNM Commander who had only played one game before and didn't have her own deck. Her friend gave her his Oswald Fiddlebender deck and she had no idea what cards she was supposed to search for to assemble any combo so every time her turn came around, the game ground to a halt while she fingered through every artifact in the deck. She moved so slow as well while playing lands, tapping, reading cards. We got one game in 3 hours.

To people saying netdecking is fine, it may be fine if you’re trying to make the pro tour but I think you should play what you want to if you’re just a casual player. If you are just playing fnm or whatever don’t netdeck it just makes you look bad because people are mostly playing fun decks at these. Number 6 it may not take away from their focus but I hate people who have headphones in and don’t even converse with their opponent and are kind of in their own little world When you were talking about the guy who said his deck was better than yours was bad, it reminded me of another type of a person you should add and those are the people who whether they win or lose always say that their deck is betterI remember I beat an opponent pretty badly one time and I heard him talking to his friend right afterwards saying how his deck was so much better and he made one play that would’ve changed at all which wasn’t true of course. Then you have the people who beat you and have the nerve to tell you that your day isn’t very good because also happened to me. If you win just win gracefully and the same goes for losing. I actually beat a pro player, channelfireball guy is all I’ll say, in a draft online one time and instead of just saying good game he had the nerve to tell me how I made a misplay. Even if I had made a bad play i won why feel the need to say something?

I'm a semi netdecker (I say that because I never chose the most powerful deck yet I really don't build anything from scratch) and want to learn how to effectively build decks for constructed formats. I also want to play blue red aggro forever because Izzet is my thing and want to know how to force it in every block yet still have at least a chance at winning.

The other variation on number 5 is the staff member who participates in FNM and cannot be disturbed while he plays and expects everyone else to sit around waiting for his match to finish. Happened to me where I was playing standard and he put himself into a draft so round 2 went over by 30 minutes because of his game......

I really hate the people who complain after every match about how lucky the opponent was and how great their deck is. It just grinds my gears that people cant just accept that they lost, They always have a really mean tone. Its always people who are older than me who act like this. I dont know how it could even be fun to play like that.

Great video. One comment about your #0: this isn't really about the players, but it's the host of the event. They can't split the 1st and 2nd prizes if the event host doesn't award them because a legal winner has not been determined. So, yeah, it's obnoxious behavior to refuse to finish the tournament, but it's enabled by the guy in charge.

from what you have said i fit into the 0 category. i understand your perspective but i normally split at the end when i make it that far because i honestly am afraid i am going to loose and am very happy to be insured 8 packs instead of a 50% chance of getting 10 or 6 packs, i have done this several times at my store and have been able to continue it because the people at the top have said no to me about 3 or 4 times and i got really lucky and won all 4 times so now they agree just about every time. this is a strategy game and if my strategy is to eliminate the risk and get a high amount of packs i see no problem with it.

+Connor Mraz i guess i dont fit into the catagory because i don't net deck, i build my own decks that due fairly well. I start with my own ideah compare it to the netdeck and then change a few cards that i discover in the netdeck that would make my deck better but my lists are always at least 8 cards different from a netdeck. my deck right now is very similar to jeskia black but i dont play any black and made the deck more agressive iwth monestaryswift spears abbot of carol keep and jeskai charm.

I went to a card store (haven't been there for 4 years prior) and was asked by some stranger if I had a deck to play with. He didn't know who we are and we didn't know who he was. I had a feeling that he chose us to ask, because he has never seen us before. I swear, if I handed him a deck, it would have disappeared along with him. Who the hell thinks this would work? Hand over my deck? Fuck off. Another thing... A friend and I were playing Warmachine (miniature figure game) at a dorm lobby and every time my turn came, he ran off and started talking to people. Every. Fucking. Turn. I know you want to go chat and all that, but every single second? He ran across the whole building, to where I almost couldn't even see him, to talk. Why even play? I had to keep calling him over (sometimes shout) to get him back into the game. At one point, I just started packing up, because it just wasn't worth the time.

In the case of my local lgs, I think your #0 isn't a bad thing. We do a lot of midnight events, so by the time it gets to the final round, it is about 4 or 5 in the morning, so the top 4 or top 2 just decide to split because we all want to go home and get some sleep.

Idk in the end I'm there to have fun and play some games not care about who wins packs or if others finish there games. While I completely agree with you about "the smelly guy." The one person I won't give crap to is the smelly guy who's only smelly because he came to fnm after work because if he went home first, he would have missed the event. I'm totally fine with that. You're working for a living and at literally any other time you see this person in public, they are clean and hygenic. If you work for a living and you want to have fun like the rest of us, and you're clean every other time I see you at my lgs, you're okay with me. But I also saw this 17 year old kid at my lgs who literally shit himself and left a skid mark on the chair during a game of commander we were playing. Idk why he couldn't respectfully say "Hey, I'll be back, I need to use the restroom" like a normal human being. Fuck that guy

I had to deal with the too-cool-for-schooler, except he was a Yu Go Oh player. Everything was there: ankle socks, white sleeveless muscle shirt, spiked hair, chin-strap, total broski. He had parked his Mustang across two spots before FNM started in a high-volume low-parking parking lot, and there weren't any other spots. I decided to punish him by parking in front of him, blocking him in. He finally came back from dinner and complained, but didn't say a word as I moved my car and parked in a newly opened spot. he was PISSED though. Damn Yu Gi Oh players.

From a "you don't know everyone's situation" perspective for #2 (I think) , I have no sense of smell and suffer from hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes me to sweat more than is appropriate for the weather. I know there are times when I must smell horrible and have no idea. It probably happens at least monthly that someone is significantly offended by my body odor, but the only people that ever say anything are boys around the age of 13, and that's just because boys that age are typically jerks. I don't know if there's an especially kind and at least somewhat socially acceptable way to tell someone they smell bad, and so people that smell bad don't get the feedback they need to make an adjustment. Even if you personally always were just up front and addressed the issue, they will see dozens of other people that are too embarrassed to say anything. The one guy that said something now looks like some hyper-sensitive jerk since no one else seems to have a problem. It's a tricky problem to solve, and, unfortunately, one that's not always as simple as you made it seem. That being said, most people know principles of basic hygiene, so it should not be as frequent an issue as it apparently is at FNM.

Imo, if you get a bit salty at magic, and yes this happens to you me and everyone on the planet, just remember that your loses exist to teach you. If you flooded out/drew to few lands and you feel that this was out of your control, at least try to question everything you could have done to effect the outcome first. "Should I have mulled to five instead?" "Could I have held onto the only kill spell in my hand a turn longer?" Taking the time to at least evaluate your losses, even if it still seems your loss was out of your hands, can make your losses less toxic. Don't go into every match thinking, "I have to win, I have to defeat my opponent, I have to prove I'm better." Go in thinking, "I need to accept that my opponent may very well be better than me, I am going to try to take my play to the next level, and if i do lose I will regroup and examine the loss so that I can do better next time." Even the pros go to gps knowing they may very well be crushed in 13 rounds and have to cope with a very bleak weekend(and they do this for a living). Also, don't bother getting mad at players who are obviously below your skill level. People will suggest changes to your deck when you lose, sometimes you'll know those changes are obviously subpar and that your opponent probably let the win get to their head. Try to stay amicable, and realize you don't have to agree with them or change their opinion, so long as you don't let your own playstyle get worse. If they become trying on your patience, insistent, toxic even, just tell them you have to go do something else (And if they did win the match, maybe suggest they use their time to go report their win, its their responsibility anyways).

when i went to FNM i was always just happy to play even if the only win i got was just due to the draw like the person i was suppose to play just did not show up.

At my store it is common that in the final round the players agree to draw and then play out who gets the first pick of the draft rares, and I think that is ok.

I'm number 4's evil twin; I build decks that I know are flawed but don't really care because I really like the cards in it and don't mind losing. Ironically, I can still scrounge a win here and there in unexpected fashion XD

What annoys me as a new player, the people winning are the net deckers, so they have stupid amounts of money to buy a deck, yet they’re the ones taking the prizes that they can afford to buy anyway, if you don’t have the money to buy a top tier net deck, chances are those packs are a lot more useful to you, but you’ll never get to win them because you can’t afford to buy a pay-to-win deck...I guess what I’m trying to say is the prizes end up going to the person who needs them the least thus keeping them out of the hands of someone who’s worked really hard to build a deck that’s competitive because they could really use those few packs, thus the richer player keeps the poorer player from ever truly closing the gap in their advantage 😕

I've been playing for a couple of months, and finally won 1 pack during the Kaladesh prerelease :D then I won 2nd place in last FNM. :D I hate it when people try to cheat because I'm new, at least they used to, although they still try. I actually learned how the game works, so now when they try to cheat, they just act dumb like if they attack me with a 1/1 double strike while I have a 2/2, they say that the double strike hits me twice either way, when my 2/2 kills it the first time they attack witihin the double strike, and after they do this mistake 3 separate instances, I realized that they actually are just acting dumb, or do not like learning in order to try to get an advantage.

Also now that I'm actually into the game, I'm actually really grateful to my friends because they gave me card sleeves, dice, pretty good rares, a planeswalker, and a lot of packs because we had some private mtg drafts in their house. Also my first card I had ever gotten was Jace, Unraveler of Secrets which was the rare in my first pack, and I didn't know what it was during the draft, but because the people around me were my friends, they helped me make my first deck within draft. So I am really grateful towards my friends who gave me free things to start playing magic.

OH! YOU KNOW WHO'S ANNOYING? THAT ONE PLAYER WHO COMPLAINS THAT HE LOST BECAUSE HE WAS MISSING ONE OF HIS MANA COLORS! Case in point: I was playing against an Orzhov Zombie token deck with an Izzet Prowess and I basically boardswung for lethal (I said, quote, "I'm not gonna count that"). He then revealed his hand and started ranting about how if he had just *one* more white mana, he would have destroyed me. I Meh'd him away, but I've been wary of his temper since

Nice lists (I watched & liked the other one also ^_^ ) Here is my top 10 of players that you didn't use. #10: The Slowplayer: Takes an unwarranted amount of time to make decisions/turns and usually plays Blue. The poker equivalent would be "calling the clock" on this person. From turn 1 Island, then waits 2-3 mins then says go, or turn 5 waits 15 mins, taps some mana, untaps the mana and then thinks some more, possibly calling the judge unnecessarily. I don't like this person because just one game can sometime take as long as a whole match. I want to get a result from my games rather than a 50 minute 0-0 draw. Calculation is one thing, but deliberately wasting time is another. #9: The Destroyer: This guy treats cards like garbage and usually plays sleeveless/bareback cards. While what they do with their own property is up to them (such as playing a foil Liliana without sleeves) I get it, but this person usually also damages MY cards. Whether its a ruffle-shuffle or when presented with my deck, cut hard on an angle, thus dog-earring or bending the corners or while picking up my card to read it and slamming it back awkwardly I get pretty pissed off. #8: The Lore Master: While MTG flavor text/story is sweet, people that constantly make references to EVERY card you/they play starts to get annoying. One opponent had a 25 minute discussion with himself about Thraximundar being the worst ever Interior-decorator (only wanting to paint everything red)... He could have left it like that and been quirky but got carried away. #7: The Over-eater: Has the unique ability to hold his hand AND manage to eat simultaneously. Conversations with this person are obviously one-way traffic, as the only responses are nods, shakes , grunts or crunches. When they pick up your card to look at it, the sleeve comes back much more slimier/stickier/oilier/sugary than it first was. Also uses Candy as +1/+1 counters and cannot wait until his character dies nomnomnomnom #6: The Excessive Hate-drafter: Hate drafting i.e picking a card that's not playable in your main 23-24 cards on the sole basis to protect your color(s) is borderline acceptable, as I have been found guilty of it before. (e.g. I took a Languish 3rd pack when I had mostly GW creatures with 4 or less toughness). But EXCESSIVE hate drafting (like 7+ out-of-color picks that you do NOT play or splash) for me takes away a lot of potential ideas for other peoples decks also hampering your own deck. I just don''t understand why some people do it, but I know I dislike them for it. #5: The Whiner: Pretty self-explanatory. Complains about the deck, complains about the drawstep, complains when his creature gets removed, complains about the weather and the T-Shirt that I'm wearing. When this person wins a match they will still find something to complain about, like "But, I didn't want to win that way" or " That game took waaay longer than it should have". #4. The Fidgeter: The Fidgeter is constantly touching hair/face/clothes. Puts their cards down so they can drum tap, hum, whistle or click, then picks their hand up and Kibbleresquely flicks through those cards as fast as possible. Rolls dice when not required. Rocks/swivels their chair repeatedly. #3 The Space Cadet: Headphones/Music going, check. Vacant, daydreaming look on face, check. Never looking at the board state or even you directly, check! The SC is on a whole different plane altogether; making astoundingly shocking (if not illegal) plays. Aura on a clean board.. tapping this Island for red.. While we cannot directly blame the SC for cheating as such, we can blame them for being unfocused, ignorant and giving us a sense of unrewarding victory. #2 The Nitpicker: Remorselessly will pull you up on every play he/she deems to be an illogical or an incorrect option. Plays not only his hand (from what information he has) yours as well. Quotes. "I would have done it this way." "You should really attack with that guy as well" Only way to shut this guy up is to win the first game. While good advice is encouraged I would recommend to save it, until after the match is over. #1 The Cluster#@!ker: I cannot describe this person any other way. Builds up a complicated board state (say 15+ creatures vs 15+ creatures) then ambiguously tries to hide cards under other cards. While its not directly cheating (like, I knew that Elder Cathar was played on turn 3) but, because it was out of my visual radar and inactive for 9 turns, hiding under a group of Islands and Plains I totally overlooked and forgot about it, ended up costing me the match. While I have only myself to blame I felt indirectly cheated and slightly salty, but due to lack of room on the table etc I had to just accept it. #0 The Scout: A savant memory, remembers exactly what cards passed in the draft. Builds the deck quickly (in order to casually stroll around glancing at other players color combinations). Likes to sporadically spectate during rounds in order to complete the information. While many people do this, I find it more rewarding when I do NOT know what my opponent (and myself half the time) is up to. Seems to me that's the way magic ought to be played. Please reply and tell me what you think of my list. I tried to make it short, but seems quite long sorry about that :/

I am with you man. I don’t understand why people always feel bad for the people who are mentally or have their ass crack hanging out. I am a big guy but somehow I manage to always have my pants pulled up and always wear deodorant and take a shower. It’s not something that people can’t help it’s a matter of them being too lazy or just not caring most of the people have no social grade and it’s more of a I don’t care what people think of me. Hopefully they have a friend is good enough to walk tell them I just wanted to let you know you smell a little bit so I would suggest you wear some deodorant nothing mean about that being a good friend I think some people think that you should let people do what they want but if it’s affecting other people good Time it’s a problem. To anyone saying we don’t know his situation, there is no situation that someone could not make themselves smell better. If you’re suggesting he doesn’t have the money to buy so why is he playing magic? If you’re saying that he has some kind of condition that makes him sweat a lot or something like that you can still wear deodorant and cologne, as far as I know there is no condition that makes you smell like ass and it’s impossible to cover

Ha I remember running into one like number 3 back in the day during onslaught. Mirarris wake rotates out and I had seen how mana ramp made a deck fast and was still a bit fresh with only a year or two playing the game So I decided to see what kind of mana ramp was in green and ended up running a deck with big beasties kahmal biorythm and my favorite in that deck was plated slagworm mythic proportions A net decker thumbed thru it and couldn't figure out the purpose of the deck......uh derp ramp out mana and throw down big creatures by turn four or five when normally they would hit on turn 8 or 9 Bet that very same kid if he still playing has been net decking the ramp decks and probably feeling stupid if he even remembers lol

-1. Players who put down others who plays with cards/decks that no one else plays, the deck is good but other player(playgroup), wanting them to lose even thought they are actually okay players and actually take advice from other to build the deck and take time to improve his/her and won win most of the matches(like 3rd or 2nd place). -2. players who play "the victim" when they build a deck that is non-consistent and is actually bad not taking any advice from others and gets mad when he loses a match.
