Nothing worse than being in the non-playoff middle and deluding yourself into believing you’re close. Have to respect the Chicago-level pulling the ripcord and trashing the whole thing. Columbus should have the biggest ⬆️

Columbus should have big jump up or else that Babcock hire was huge mistake. Still to be fair, if Patrik Laine, Johhny Gaudreau or Werenski have injuries this season they are in tough spot also big question is does Elvis Merzlikins bounce back? I think he doesn’t but hope that Elvis would get back in the game. He might have some injury which isn’t told to Press and maybe have had time to recover of it in this summer.

As a Habs fan, all I want is for my team to stop trying to beat the record for the most game lost to injuries. Over 700 game loss in 21-22 and over 600 in 22-23. That's like having 9 and 8 players injured every single game. It's just insane and probably why they replaced their medical team in this off season.

Hello from Bruins Nation-I'm thinking you guys need enforcers. You got a very small top line, Caulfield and Suzuki are both under 6 ft. You're an original six club, enough is enough. It's time to start playing real hockey again. Since Zdeno Chara and Nik Richie left the Bruins, Patrice Bergeron has been taking a phenomenal amount of cheap shots over the past two seasons. We've noticed And that's why we're happy Milan Lucic is coming back! This game is getting faster and more athletic, but they're never going to replace a large Zdeno Chara or Nik Richie type enforcing on ice, taking the sin-bin and keeping scorers out there Making players think twice about clobbering their goalie on the head or putting a rookie in a chokehold. I'm glad they're bringing in a new medical staff, I hate to see any athlete being abused... But they're going to continue to be injured unless they bring in enforcers. Our 5 ft 9 inch lil rat 🐀 couldn't have gotten away with what he did, both positive and negative unless he had a Zdeno Chara or Nick Ritchie behind him During the hurricanes playoff series a year ago, we had no enforcer and our little rat was running around playing enforcer spending more time in the sin-bin than on ice in scoring position David pastrnak, top NHL goal scorer. Was being thrown around like a rag doll, flattened out like a pancake while he's trying to pass the puck Our Stars can't function without enforcers watching their backs We're never going to get away from needing enforcers-regular-season is gentleman's game... Playoffs is the real deal. Your top lines are getting beaten up all regular season, there's nothing left for playoffs And that's probably what happened to Patrice Bergeron. I'm an original sixer-we're the oldest rivals in professional sports... Got to keep original six teams going! They're calling us washed up has-beens! Get some enforcers, let's see the Habs come back as they were. Enough of this gentleman stuff. Let's get back to original six hockey

@@TheFoolintherainn Suzuki is 5'11 and 208 lbs, he is built like a tank. Compare that to say Elias Petersson in Vancouver. He may be 6'3 but he's 176 lbs. Which of them will be pushed around? Xhekaj 6'4, 238lbs is there as an enforcer. 6 of 7 defensemen are 6'2 or above. Plenty of size and weight to throw around. Mtl will be fine.

Everyone forgets that Montreal had only 2 players who played more then 70 games. Most teams had an average of 10 players playing over 70 games. That was devastating for Montreal. If they stay healthy they can surprise a lot of people. Their goaltending should be better. Their young defense after one year should be better. This team is a lot better then most people think.

I agree totally. Injuries is what tanked them this year. But when they were healthy they could compete. Hopefully players spend more time on the ice then in the informary. Maybe we could see Caufield, Suzuki and Dach hit there best season this year and maybe get closer to playoff contention this year, tho i doubt we make top 16, but maybe close like Buffalo or Ottawa last year.

Injuries happen - especially when you ice a fast-moving team of small-ish players. Last year's line-up was virtually all-new and it was always changing (due to the injuries) so it was hard to develop chemistry in each of the lines and in the D pairings. This year's line-up has talent and stability and they can absolutely win ten more than they did last year - not enough for a wc spot but competitive and in the hunt for most of the year. I think the addition of Newhook will help.

There are reasons to doubt New Jersey's sustainability, but I still agree that they're a good bet for another 110+ point season. Yes, they were assisted by remarkably good injury luck in 2022-23. . . but their organizational depth can withstand injuries, and they've clearly improved on paper (not to mention natural improvements from a young roster). Yes, their bottom 6 has sacrificed some of the team's trademark speed in exchange for versatility. . . but they're adding Luke Hughes, the ideal defenseman to make 'Devils hockey' happen all by himself. And yes, Travis Green may not stack up as a replacement for Andrew Brunette behind the bench. . . but Tyler Toffoli excelled in his brief stint with the Green-coached Canucks. Plus their power play (which was middling in 2022-23) is tracking to improve with a full season of Timo Meier, Tyler Toffoli, Luke Hughes, and Alex Holtz. I mean: Tyler Toffoli, Dawson Mercer, Luke Hughes, Ondrej Palat, Alex Holtz -- there's only room for one of these guys on the first PP unit.

Teams that can't sign their own players are almost always at fault for poor cap management. For example, Vancouver losing Horvat is 100% on them and you can point to 10 different things they should have or more importantly shouldn't have done (not trading for OEL and Garland would have been a great start). Teams like Tampa bleeding guys out year after year means the salary cap system is working as intended. Cup winners usually demand raises and you can't keep everyone so you won't have a single team dominating for a decade. Dominant teams will all eventually have to pay the piper.

What didn't help detroit last season was husso tried playing injured his last like 13 starts. He was horrendous in 10 of his last 13 starts. He was originally ruled out for the rest of the season. Ned came in, started winning games and was playing solid. Then husso for the 2nd time last year is magically healthy and ready to go right as ned is on a roll or before ned gets a start like what happened when husso had gone down midseason with an illness then was magically fine right as ned was scheduled to start the next night. Husso played like crap stopping only 106 of 124 shots for a pitiful .855 save percentage his final 5 starts. He played 4 games after returning from injury, stopped 79 of 93 and was yanked against dallas after allowing 3 on 5, gets put back on injured reserve, ned plays one more game before having to leave to go be with his wife for the birth of his first child, so husso goes back in and allows 4 on 31 for another loss. The guy should have been left on injured reserve starting February 25th because after that, it was a downright disaster. He was playing hurt and the coaches should have sat him. With the way ned played in his return, we could have possibly snuck or way into the playoffs. Husso cost us at least 16 points with his horrendous play after February 25th in his final 14 starts.

Great video! I understand that everyone has their own opinion, and while I disagree with some of your assessments, I still enjoyed watching it. I'll go ahead and post my opinion here on who I think will improve and who won't, so by the end of next season, everyone can see how wrong I am too. 😅 I've arranged it to be in the same order as Shannon's. BOS: ⬇️ CAR: ⬇️ NJD: ⬆️ TOR: ⬇️ VGK: ⬇️ EDM: ⬇️ COL: ⬆️ DAL: ⬇️ NYR: ⬇️ LAK: ⬆️ MIN: ⬇️ SEA: ⬆️ TBL: ⬆️ WPG: ⬇️ NYI: ⬇️ CGY: ⬇️ FLA: ⬆️ NSH: ⬆️ PIT: ⬇️ BUF: ⬆️ OTT: ⬆️ VAN: ⬇️ STL: ⬆️ DET: ⬆️ WSH: ⬆️ PHI: ⬆️ ARI: ⬆️ MTL: ⬆️ SJS: ⬇️ CHI: ⬆️ CBJ: ⬆️ ANA: ⬆️ Now, keep in mind that I don't necessarily mean drastic changes relative to the direction the arrow is pointing. The arrows purely indicate whether the team's point total will rise or drop. Although, I do believe some of the teams listed will have a massive point drop/increase by the next season. I just didn't want to go neutral on any guess.

But Couts said he was ready at the end of the season. So did Atkinson. Some trash has been removed from the locker room. Torts is not going to get soft. They could be closer to average. The fans thinking the Flyers will compete for first overall both are nuts, and forget that the Flyers aren't allowed 1st overall draft picks. While JVR and Patrick were probably lovely people. They were not Kane and Hischier/Makar. However, that defense could be harsh. If they are middling by the time the deadline comes around, I wonder how much of a firesale they have with the healthy veterans. Will be interesting to see if they stay the course.

@@paulthompson8793 Buffalo massively improved last season from the year before, being a single (1) point from a playoff spot. How is improving from 75 points to 91 points from one season to the next "doing nothing"? And this is despite suffering some critical injuries to their D group while having AHL level goaltending (Luukkonen/Comrie) for most of the season. If their D stays healthy next season (particularly Samuelsson) and Levi plays up to par, they should easily contend for a playoff spot, especially with the Isles/Pittsburgh/Washington looking highly mediocre and teams like Boston and Tampa being gutted of depth.

The history during the salary cap era shows that the single most important thing that affects rises and falls from one season to the next is man-games lost to injury. If a team gets hit with more injuries, they drop like a stone. If they lose significantly *less* man-games than the previous season, they climb. Never fails. The second most important thing is goalies having a good season or a poor one. Everything else is almost irrelevant.

Really hard to think Vancouver could improve enough to make it. My only real issue is can they make up for Horvat. His face offs and goals. Two good goalies and a improved defense. We had neither last year. Even last year I thought we had changed towards the good. Injury bug and a lack of depth. We are going to have to get scoring from some where else. Some one will have to pick up the slack. I think we could end up between 90-95 points and miss the playoffs. Close but no cigar.

It’s hard to tell.. Boston is the only given on the list. they had a record year.. they can’t help but to drop.. add in the losses it appears they will see.. it will really be a question but how much they drop. NJ & Seattle could both drop because they played over their heads last year and get a bit of correction. I think Toronto has one more good year before they start to fall.. The cap is catching up to them and even with the jump… between Matthews and Nylander… they are in trouble. Vegas I think will drop simply due to a bit of Stanley Cup Hangover… Not much though.. I expect they’ll still be in the playoffs.. The rest are all too close to call.. Injuries could very well dictate way more than we can predict.

Very weird to me how many people talk about Minnesota dropping due to cap issues when a) the cap penalty is not that much worse this year than it was last year b) a few key guys had down years this year (Hartman and Foligno in particular) and c) the only pieces we lost this offseason are Dumba (who was important, but Faber already looks like he’ll fill that spot pretty admirably) and Reaves (who we replaced with Maroon - depending on who you ask that’s either a lateral move or an improvement). Goaltending is the same, all the major pieces are the same, so why would the Wild substantially drop? Makes no sense to me

Edmonton and LA both play pretty wide open pond hockey which is fun to watch, but they are also gunna blow some games they should win and doing a bit worse. I could actually see Colorado getting better providing everyone other then Landeskog (who by the way didn’t play at all last season either) stays healthy. Last season the Av’s were lucky to get to 109 pts. It actually shows how much depth they have because aside from Landeskog there were a lot of other key players out too. Such as MacKinnon, Makar, Byram, and Nichuskin who including Landeskog were all out at the same time.

Avs are interesting for the coming season. Definitely a makeover with the additions and departures but with the same core so really dependent on how the additions pan out. Personally, I love what they did and like their chances of contending again and with the added rest this offseason, should be healthier. The downfalls of winning a cup is that players play through injuries and have less time to heal and it showed in 22/23.

Buffalo will take the Bruins place. Sens will stand still like you say Shannon, they still lack leadership and direction, I think they will fire SMith at some point this season and things will begin to change for them afterwards but not enough to see them make the playoffs. Tampa will be very strong, I just don't see them dropping much as long as injuries don't hit them too hard. In the West I think Seattle and Dallas will battle for 1st, both will improve from very strong seasons this year. Vegas will be tired and may drop back a little but still a cup contender. Avs are a funny one....I just can't read them right now. They should finish near the top but they seem fragile. In the East I think NJ vs Toronto vs Tampa for the top spot. Presidents trophy winners?
