As a rock hound I can let you know that limonite and rust can often be removed from crystals and chalcedony with Oxalic acid or citric acid. It may be worth checking out for your gin bottle. Stoneware is very tough.

Hi from Western Australia 👋👋you know those bottles with just the tops missing can be up cycled into pots for pens or paint brushes. I don’t know if you know of Si finds on the Thames in London, he does a lot of up cycling. Love your finds and have just found your videos and subscribed to you in part one. Hope if your in lockdown you are staying safe and well. Good luck with finding more awesome finds and will go back and watch the rest of your videos. So many great things to discover at this dump. Cleaning idea but try on a test peice first. Something I use for cleaning burners on stove is place in trash bag with rags in bottom. Pour ammonia in tie bag close. Leave overnight and wash. Grime always washes away easily for me. Be careful opening bag it will take your breath.

Hello There, James and Linda. New Sub. Astounding the multitude of cast-off items from the past that get a second chance to be appreciated.. Gotta Love that. When you said, "This place is a mess", I was thinking what an opportunity for creative imaginations such as yours, to absolutely thrive. Like you, I find it disturbing when people start cutting the roots on trees, on the chance they find anything they consider to be a keeper. James, You are right. The camera work is very wiggly. I slowed the speed down, but it didn't help, because you didn't focus on finds as you went. I know, "time constraints". .I'm sure all the subs and viewers will appreciate and Love your channel even more, if you could find a way to stabilize your (video footage), so to speak. Being a fairly new channel, I feel that would help your channel grow. I don't know if the newer video cameras have this, but the older ones had a (movie setting), stabilizing the footage, even while moving about. Hope you don't think it rude of me, just friendly suggestions. :)

Thanks so much for the feedback and no I don't mind at all. I took footage another day and the images are so shaky they are unusable. Many thanks again, kind regards - James

@@findcreate6174 ,Do not use peroxide as it is an oxidiser and will actually promote rusting. @@findcreate6174, James, A combination of equal amounts of salt and baking soda in water soaks, finished off by adding vinegar to the mix, is a great cleaner. Denture cleaner is a good product to clean some pottery, ivory or bone. When yo experiment with cleaning ideas, please film, as it would be a good video to post. To remove rusty buildup on metal relics, throw them in a plastic bucket with cheap vinegar and cheap molasses and let sit for a few weeks, stirring and or adding more solution to cover items, as you go. This process can have a somewhat unpleasant, but not toxic odor. I soak my rusty relic finds outside. .When they are at the stage you like, saturate the relics with WD40 or a similar product, to seal the air from them (so they cease rusting. : )

Loving the videos! I don’t know if you noticed but in the painting of Lucas Bols, in the back left, there is a distilling bottle with a very long neck. Do you suppose the rods you have been finding are the necks for these bottles? I have dreams where I find a horde of things, jewellery or parts of jewellery (I use bits of jewellery in my artwork), letters, coins, shells, etc., and I am trying to collect all I can find to take home. I keep losing them or have far too many to carry... I get very upset. Now, I’m worried I am going to dream of your bottle dump, now!

Hi Kim. Thanks for the comment. Yes I have enough blue and white but will keep collecting to do the shower floor next. The bottles are definitely different and it seems they were using screw caps much earlier than in the UK.
