Finally we found a huge old dump dating back to the early 1900's in The Netherlands. This is part one where we actually find the site and begin to explore. The place goes on and on and will be featured again in more videos.

The gilded glass window signage at the beginning was hands down my favorite... I guess you've learned to keep all your needed tools in the boot of the car so if you find a spot you're ready for treasure

I beach comb at our town’s old dump beach...most of my beach-find bottles are very rusty...I give them a soak in citric acid overnight and that usually makes a HUGE difference in the amount of scrubbing I have to do! 😉

Again thanks for the advice. I’ve tried citric acid and white vinegar and all sorts but only with limited success so I’m going to try muraitic acid next

Some of those old kettles look so cool! I wish I could add one of those to my collection to use for my still life paintings. I have a small collection of Victorian bottles (around 1890s-1900s) that I am starting to use for the same purpose and they inspire me a lot. And I do understand your love for blouse and white pottery. I have a big box of broken pottery from the same dump where I found the bottles and want to make a mosaic in my garden with them all. They just looked too beautiful to be left in the dump and they deserve a second life as an art piece.
@findcreate61743 жыл бұрын
Hi Darya. Your certainly love it there, the kettles and tea pots are all over, full of charm and character and all with a story to tell. I hope your collection continues to grow and good luck with the paintings and mosaic project. I'm working on finishing my mosaic floor today. Kind regards - James

OMG......I would pitch a tent right in the middle of this glorious place. I can just see that if see a decent amount of time and effort digging could be profitable. I am do jealous of European bottle dumps, here’s in California they scoop up all of the past and bury it too deep to be found again . It’s a crime and it shuts to door on our past. Our bottle dumps can date back as far as the mid 19th century. Bottles have been found dating to 1808 by friends. I want to go with you when you return to the Holland Bottle Dump Dream Land. Thank you for this video.
@findcreate61743 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve and thanks for the comment. This is the only such dump I’ve found in Holland. The Dutch government are so eco driven that when they find these places they dig it all up and recycle it. From what I understand there used to be lots but not anymore. It’s a cool place and very big. Should keep me entertained for years. I’ll post another video soon and if you ever visit NL you can be my guest and come along. Kind regards - James

The green hexagonal thing at 6.7 is a Chinese ginger jar - heavy coarse clay but lovely glazes, and the syrupy ginger inside was delicious as I remember from my childhood. Not so delicious is that some of the lidded enamel buckets were probably for 'night soil', put out for collection from houses without plumbing.

Oh boy, what a great finds! Never thought that there was such a place in the Netherlands. I really, really envy you for scraping there. Love the enamel stuff you've left there behind. 😅 That huge milk jug (or whatever it was) really had my name written on it. 😁 You can still buy Maggi today at the grocery store. Even in those large bottles if you want. I've asked my mom about Codd bottles. (She's 71y.o) She's never seen one of them. Fizzy drinks were quite extraordinary and expensive when she was young. I'm going to ask my neighbour who's 82 y.o. if he ever drunk from a Codd bottle. Never thought you'd find them here in an old dump place.
@findcreate61743 жыл бұрын
There's more enamel stuff there than you can ever use! The dump is over 200 meters long, in fact I don't know how far it extends as I never find the extremes before I get distracted. Yes good idea to ask your neighbour, someone must remember them, they are loads of smashed ones at the dump but all plain. Thanks also for the info on the MAGGI

My partner and I were speculating that there’s not this volume of metal in the UK, might be because of the way WWII progressed differently there and in the Netherlands. If I understand the history, I believe the UK had MASSIVE campaigns to convert every bit of scrap metal to war use. I imagine that the citizens of Netherlands weren’t in a position to do anything like that. I’m in California, so it’s quite likely that I’ve got this all wrong, and am spewing utter nonsense.
