Really dig these prints! Some possibly useful tips: Start with wood panel and paper oversized by a couple of inches on one side. (To be trimmed off finished print later.) X carvel 2 small, deep holes near either end of extra wood, and make identical pair of holes in paper. Use snug fitting pegs to register paper to wood in precisely the same spot with each color printing. For great sky ombre effect spray 2 or 3 shades of blue (or blue and perhaps a pale rose for horizon), and then print in one pull. Looking forward to future plywood prints!

Very cool! Llove the texture the grain gives. So cool and using the cnc makes pretty quick work relative to using another tool. Also the imperfections is what makes some prints perfect. That's what I love about the poster artist Earl Newman who uses paper stencils in screenprinting, causes registration problems but that's some of the best parts of each poster.

Beautiful, Wes, just beautiful! Don't know where to begin. . . ok, the wood grain definitely brings an extra quality to the 'nostalgic' aesthetic that this subject matter demands. Your selection of colours and your 'oiled-out' effects are superb too. As an EX-silkscreen printer, I think your registration system (2 bits of blue tape) could use an upgrade and then, perhaps, you could make multiple prints. However, now you have produced a 'master-image', I see nothing wrong with using a print service to produce multiples [esp of the big one] - Definitely a merch-opportunity.

Back in Art School . . Wow the decades ago, we were assigned a very similar assignment using blocks of wood with 2 layers of smooth floor laminate to carve into to be hand printed on our own hand made paper. See. Totally similar. What I would have given for an x-carve for my chosen grapes in a wine bottle, but we were still amazed by dot matrix printers Wonderful textures via the paper though. Great video, fantastic project.

I was surprised how well the paint transferred. I've tried this before and it's tough to keep the paint wet long enough without oversaturating the block. It would be neat to try this with linoleum. Not sure if the linoleum would hold up or if it would rapidly dull the bit.

I can see this is experimental for you but it's mind boggling to me after working in printing for ~20years. Why not just make 1 block for each color plate instead of destroying the previous to build the next? You'll have the repeatability option to run an edition even if you don't end up using it ever again.

I remember doing something similar to this in a highschool art class. It was called the reduction method for lino-cuts. Where you use one block of linoleum block for a multi color print. Each layer you cut away more and more of the linoleum. It was fun way to think through the process of a multi color.
