The trial for a nanny accused of fatally stabbing her young charges has begun, and the mother who found the grisly scene has testified in murder trial of Yoselyn Ortega. In 2012, Ortega allegedly killed Lulu, 6, and Leo Krim, 20 months, a crime her attorney plans to argue she is "not responsible by reason of mental disease or defect." She had worked for the Krims for about two years when she was reportedly found trying to slit her own throat as the children lay dead in the bathtub. #InsideEdition

That's actually not true. Ever heard of Ronnie O'Neal? He defended himself and it was undeniable that he was not of sound mind, but they let him do it anyway. Well because they may have worked her all the time, and also never OFF work. (or her depression was such that a normal fair workload was too much. In which case the parents should have had enough interest in the person that is entrusted with their children to check out what is going on. If she is a live-in nanny she stands up in the night anyway if they need her. That is not like a 8 or 10 hour day. And it is also not like the pay is so good.

I read an article about a suburban couple that offered reduced ! rent for one room in their house for a live-in-nanny. I think USD 150 per week (but that wasn't for a full package). They offered that on a platform with a photo of the room (of course with furniture so no place for personal belongings, it was a guest room and a double bed taking up the space). Their demands on time of being either working or at least PRESENT The night hours, in the morning, and again in the afternoon. No visitors allowed (for the safety of the children) and the live in nanny needs to have a car. (As far as I remember no offer to help with gas, insurance, etc.) Oh and nanny must have health insurance. WiFI not included (but I think they would not charge extra for electricity, heat and warm water). Nanny would need to buy her own food. Begs the question if they would have to pay for the use of the kitchen to prepare some food. In other words a "job" that requires a car but does not offer any ! wage to finance it. Hours that interfere with other jobs and also with being a college student (they have classes and exams in the morning). No social life whatsoever, and also hardly any chance to escape the delightful masters - because the nanny was supposed to be there during night. They were a) informed about the usual conditions of a live-in-nanny (I t is not domestic servants during the Dickens era) b) ripped apart along the lines of "Sure, I can't imagine anything better than raising your kids for you and paying 600 bucks per month for the privilege. I just have to figure out what other job I could get that rhymes with your demands on my time - so that I can afford that. Maybe an elderly person on SS could have afforded that. But is she has so little social life that she would accept that offer - you likely would not want her as nanny. I seem to remember that they wanted a younger person anyway.

I don't think there should be an insanity defense. The person still committed the act, and should face justice. Do you think any murderer/rapist/molester/serial killer's mind is right? Hell no. So why do we have this sane mind standard for criminals? It's a farce.

Yuuuup. Exactly. She's entirely lucid. She admitted to waiting to see the mother's reaction. No voices told her to, nothing compelled her to, she actively chose to wait and see. She also tried to take her own life. Why? Was it the demons she's allegedly fighting? Or perhaps she knew there was no way out. The insanity plea is her last attempt at freedom.

"Guilty by reason of insanity" doesn't make sense. The point is that if a person is not in the right mind when they commit a crime they shouldn't be found guilty. I don't exactly agree, but that's the whole point of insanity pleas.

@Kali Evelynn you don't understand it do you? Just cause someone has killed a person doesn't mean they're clinically insane. They're a sociopath most of the times. And the plea of "not guilty by reason of insanity" works only for genuinely insane people who have no control over their actions. However many times criminals pretend to be insane to avoid harsh punishments
