(The following is for Star Wars fans like myself) This scene is how I imagine Grand Admiral Thrawn dying in the new Canon. His ship surrounded on all sides by an unexpected Rebel fleet, being ripped apart by turbolasers and proton torpedos. Thrawn vaguely hears his subordinates shouting for him to give orders while he runs through all the possibilities of how to get out of this. He realizes that there is only one choice as he says: "It was so.. artistically done." The bridge crew then attempts to abandon ship, but they are all killed as the turbolift to exit the bridge explodes with them all near it. Thrawn walks towards the viewport as a proton torpedo from an enemy ship comes streaking towards the bridge. As the red glow becomes brighter, Thrawn reaches the viewport and closes his eyes right before the torpedo impacts the bridge, vaporizing it instantly. The now mortally wounded Chimera is riddled with explosions as it enters it's death throes. As the Rebel batteries cease, the Chimera explodes, taking with it her crew and the greatest naval tactician that the Empire ever had. It is a decisive victory for the Rebels, not because of the loss of men and a Star Destroyer for the Empire, both of which are easily replaced, but because Thrawn is now dead, his intellect, brilliance, and insight an IRREPLACEABLE loss for the Empire he so faithfully served until the very end.
@davidstone2813 жыл бұрын
Imagine if in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, they had the Rebels cast instead of the new cast and Thrawn was the main villain for the WHOLE trilogy and if this was his defeat. He's always been 5 steps ahead. This time, he still was, but they were 1 step ahead of him. They outsmart him and this is his death scene. Same music but imagine it's Thrawn instead of Beckett. And what's getting blown up is the final Star Destroyer in the Empire.

Gotta give Beckett credit. When he saw that the game was up, he didn’t try to run away or beg for mercy, but willingly went down with the ship without complaint. It takes some major mojo to do that. It parallels Jack’s “death” in the previous film. Sure, Jack might do whatever it takes to evade the Kraken, but when the game was up, he went to his death willingly.
@TTVGLADIO60002 жыл бұрын
Thats what an honor man does
@HORDE362 жыл бұрын
The game wasn't really up though. The HMS Endeavour has enough cannons to destroy the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman both even if they are on opposite sides of it. The Company fleet also still outmatched the Pirates. Lord Beckett's theme throughout the movies is complete control (all the edges of the world map being explored, control over the heart of Davy Jones, control over the seas by killing the Kraken and eradicating all pirates). It was the moment that he seemingly lost control of the situation by his schemes failing with the Dutchman turning against him that he completely freezes up and is no longer capable of acting. The strict hierarchical control of the Company makes it so that no one else onboard the Endeavour can give the order to fire (juxtaposed with Jack, Gibbs, Barbossa and Elisabeth all giving the order to fire on the Pearl) and the ship goes down without any resistance. In the end, the mechanism through which he had all this power built up throughout the movies doomed him. Absolute work of art of a scene and masterful performance by Tom Hollander!

In the end, he could have escaped death, but didn't wanted to - not when his whole life's work had collapsed around him in a single day. A badass to the end who stared at Fate in the face - rathered to die in battle alongside his dreams than to live up to old age in decline, a capitain who sunk with his ship.

Beckett’s death is so grand because he doesn’t say anything else other than “it’s just…good, business” we have not a clue about what he is thinking at that moment in time, the only thing we can guess is that he was just going mad at that point and was puzzled at the fact the Flying Dutchman had turned on him because of the fact that he didn’t know Davy Jones had been killed by Jack sparrow, so because of that he’s just in a daze not knowing what to do, All of this didn’t go according to plan and Beckett just lost it completely. Beckett died like a true alpha male captain and went down with his ship, if he was a real person in history he would be seen as a hero and the pirates would be seen as bad people.

+Angry Mobsters yeah only decent part of POTC 4 was Jack's witty comments. We should petition for Disney to do another Flying Dutchmen related thing, cuz one piece missing from it all Captain Hendrick Van Der Decken, the captain of the Dutchman in actual legend :P

Jolly Roger I have, and they are still pirates. You do know what that means right? You do know what they did? How they got all their belongings? I still love the movies, but I find it funny when people call the pirates for the good guys and the East India Trading Company/Lord Beckett for the bad guys...
