Korhogo, Côte d'Ivoire - From the very northwestern corner of Côte d'Ivoire, we’re continuing our journey through the country in Korhogo, known for its unique food and especially high quality meat. Today we’ve been invited to a local home to cook some of the local Senufo tribe food and eat some of the best grilled mutton you’ll ever have.
Senufo tribe - Mo and I headed to a local home to cook a few different dishes including Joro, which is a unique green sauce made from pounded peanuts and bean vine leaves. It was definitely green tasting and quite a healthy dish. We also had another few dishes including bambara groundnuts which were some of the best beans I’ve ever had.
Choukouya - One of the greatest of all West African street foods is grilled meat and I’m talking about choukouya, this one made with grilled mutton. Korhogo, Côte d'Ivoire is known throughout the country for raising some of the best quality and tasting meat, and I can assure you of this. They had a huge logfire going and they were roasting fresh mutton over the fire. When you order, they slice all the meat off the bone, and serve it with onions, fresh chilies, and kankankan seasoning.
Boloye Dance of the Panther - Finally we went to see one of the original Black Panther dances. It was one of the most fascinating displays of acrobatics, and chanting songs I’ve ever heard!
Another absolutely incredible day in Côte d'Ivoire! A huge thank you to my friend Mo Soumahoro from Belle Côte d’Ivoire ( / bellecotedivoire ) for arranging my trip and setting up everything.

To eat, to see new things, and to learn about different cultures, those are some of our philosophical pillars at . I sincerely appreciate the Senufos for their excellent representation. 😍The Bambara beans were the best beans I've ever tasted! oh and the green sauce! Tchonron, so healthy! 🥰 The Bolloye (Panther-Dance) was beyond amazing. 🥳 Some Hip hop historians have given credit to this tribe for break-dancing, they are the originators. The film Black Panther was also partially inspired by this tribe, I invite you all to visit the Ivory Coast! They have indeed and it's wonderful to see them get their props.Western KZfaqrs should take note. That's how to do a documentary. Courtesy rather than condescension and genuine appreciation for the hospitality of others. Mark didn't go to the poshest places but he did not deliberately seek out the worst spots to push a narrative of negativity. I think people are learning. And KZfaqrs like Mark will always be welcomed warmly while others like Drew (who ate food off a vendor and put it back! Ewwww!) and the dude with the red headband will be rejected outright.

Sad that in the USA most of our meats taste much diffrent than naturally fed Meats. Too much steriods in out grocery store meat you have to go in debt to get good Meats and greens from whole foods. I loved how Mark had to keep referring to the last dish as "meat: as it seems he couldn't get it specified. lol Ever gracious and kind, he simply smiled and referred to it generically after that. So funny. The women's smiles were so sweet. I gather that Mark has a kind of intuition for when to validate back to people about the food he's being served. Like when he gives a little wow at just the right time. ( : Ya...great video. As always.

Thats true African cooking. No waste. Plants = the fruit, the leaves and if edible the roots. Animals = head to hoof, and the skin. Thats the way we do it out here in South Africa and the continent at large. Love from 🇿🇦

Mark recognized that so many dances here in the west are inspired from the original land of humanity. Africa, every human should visit to understand themselves.

Same. I'm from East Africa & a lot of the ingredients they use over there are vastly different to what we have over here. I love spicy food & that's one thing that the West Africans don't shy away from, spice.
