Another pet peeve is when you go to a funeral and the priest says that he knows that the person is in heaven right now. They never want to focus on that fact that everyone should be praying for the person. If I was in purgatory and all my family just thought I was already in heaven and didn't pray for me, I would be disappointed.

Same here, this causes great anxiety in my soul. I cringe every time I hear it. Is it appropriate then to say something when contrary to what some (not all) priests say? I struggle because it is true charity to speak in truth. We need to be praying for the repose of their eternal soul, not start canonization.

Excellent video, Amber! My pet peeve: When fallen away Catholics say they attended 8-12 years of Catholic school as usage of credibility especially when they give some ignorant or ridiculous reason why the Church is wrong or that the belief in God is nonsensical. An example would be a fallen away Catholic who was an altar server saying the he knew the Catholic Church was a fraud when he learned that the communion wafers he was preparing were delivered in a brown box. What were you expecting, First Class Delivery via doves? Or when another fallen away Catholic assured people that transubstantiation was only believed by a small, fringe group of Catholics, and that the Eucharist was just used as symbol of Jesus' body and blood.

One of my biggest pet peeves is conversation in the church. I really gets to me because this is the house of God and he is present in the most holy sacrament and resting in the Tabernacle (hence the red candle beside it). I see way too many people standing at the ends of pews, in the middle of them, and even at the doors facing inwards. Such a lack of reverence. Another is the disrespect towards the Catholic Church. So many protestants and "non- denominational" Christians mock and dis-respect the Catholic Church of which their practices come from. Apparently, I can't say something that is against what they believe, but I can stand there and be criticized by them and be forced to take it because I'll be disrespectful to them. Sorry, I wanted to keep it short, but I get heated too. Thank you for always sharing! I love your content. Adoration is my favorite thing ever. we get to sit right in the presence of jesus and pray. it always makes me cry, but that's just being vulnerable in the presence of god.

I love your content, and I understand why these things are your pet peeves, but I also hope to caution you to take care not to go too far into judgement of others, especially when you don't know why they are doing certain things. The one about being late or leaving mass early is especially one I think about. As a mother and who knows mothers of 6, 7, 8, 10 children I can say typically we try to be on time for everything. But if your kid needs a diaper change or a baby needs to be fed, that will come at inopportune times(including during mass even). Unfortunately you can't put them on a schedule. And as someone who works and tries to go to weekday masses when I can, I usually have to leave early on work days to be at my job on time. As much as I would love to stay for all of mass, some days are rushed. If work can be avoided or started later, that is great for those people. But my job is on a schedule and I must be there at my scheduled time. I agree you should not leave early to avoid people or just to get home.. but yeah just some insight on that one. The other one that I kind of agree but also disagree with is receiving the Eucharist in the hand. There is a way to to reverently receive in your hand, there are also abuses. We can absolutely call out the abuses that you addressed, but lumping everyone who receives in the hand as irreverent when the church does allow that practice can certainly be too deep in judgement and people may have a reason to do so. Such as maybe they are sick and do not want the priest's fingers to have germs for the next person. I agree irreverent behavior is an issue, but boxing in reverent behavior as a specific action and discrediting all other actions is why the protestants have so many issues with us bowing to statues because to them, bowing is worship and reverence and so they can't even understand how bowing is not worship. I personally kneel and receive in the mouth, but I know people who reverently receive in the hand as well. Hope this helps you to understand some of the things that may be challenging you or that may lead you into a traditionalist/God forbid, SSPX type situation. I have seen it happen with too many people. Have mercy on people, especially when you don't know their story. God bless you and your mission! Seriously love your videos!

I appreciate your passion. I just found your channel and have only begun to watch your videos. Though I have not committed myself to the Roman Catholic Church, I have found many of the Roman Catholic faith practices beneficial. In March of 2015 I was present in an active shooting, I was three feet away from the shooter. Since that time I have endured horrific attacks from PTSD, from flashbacks and still images of the shooting and it's aftermath. Nightmares, anxiety and panic attacks and other horrific attacks. I felt as if I was losing my mind and was seeking for a way to handle these attacks. I had remembered that my grandmother was a devoted Roman Catholic and I began to look into the Roman Catholic faith. I have actively been praying from my Catholic Book of Prayers, following the Mass Readings from the 1962 Roman Catholic Daily Missal and reading devotions from the book Divine Intimacy. I have found the writings of St. Teresa of Avila both comforting and encouraging. I truly believe the Lord has used this faith practice to guide me through the hellish attacks of PTSD, giving me some firm footing. I was an active Word of Faith Bible Teacher, though my experiences with PTSD and the battle I had to fight often and with no instant healing caused me to consider a different path. It is comforting to now understand that the suffering I endure is the partaking in the sufferings of Christ (Colossians 1:24). The Roman Catholic faith expression I find appealing is the Carmelite faith tradition. This is probably why I find comfort in the writings of St. Teresa of Avila and the devotional writings from Father Gabriel Of St. Mary Magdalen in his book Divine Intimacy. Sorry for my long comment. Blessings in Jesus Name!

@@danusdragonfly6640 In Ireland they have been held accountable. The judicial system. You know people have gone through abuse by people who aren't clergy? Much more common. Even small children by older teenagers, childhood neglect etc. I 🤔 think the problem is fallen human nature and the cycle of abuse that continues on. I bet alot of those priests who sexual abused had some form of abuse happen in childhood and it takes years for some of these memories to surface and of course Satan takes advantage of people's emotional/ psychological wounds to lead then into wrongdoing. Satan looks for an entry point and who better to use than priests who bring us the Sacraments. When a priest falls from grace alot of people fall away from faith or faith is severely tested. We live in a world of abuse even our senses. Innocence can be taken from children through sexual imagery etc. I still deal with my own issues around childhood physical abuse neglect and rejection. The anger I was left with is the worst part. I had sexual stuff happen to me at 3 or 4. When I was 24 I had the flashbacks. It was a brother now deceased and older siblings and his friends put him up to it. That older sibling decades later won't meet me to talk. He threatened to kill me years ago when I went to his house to discuss it. Shame and guilt makes people very evasise. I wanted to talk it out and reconcile what happened. Sometimes people want to hide the bad things they have done. He has lived a very respectable life done well for himself. Maybe he has repented to God about it which is the most important which just leaves me working on forgiveness and letting go the past.

Hey Amber Rose - love the channel! Totally agree with 4 of the 5 - especially the late to Mass part - i hate being late to Mass worse than a toothache! The one im not with you on is the communion line. I am NOT in favor of the traditional row-by-row communion line process you find at most N.O. parishes. Here's the thing - it's not really traditional. Im old enough to remember when people got up and got in the communion line when they wanted to and not in any pre-defined row-by-row way. Some people wanted to be first in line, others waited until the end. Here's why that was good - there was no real way to see who went to communion, and who abstained. Let's face it - we're all fallen and we all sometimes sin and aren't worthy of receiving. We had to work or just couldn't make the 1/2 hour of confession available on Saturday afternoon (another major pet-peeve that is in MY top 5). Or maybe we broke the fast unthinkingly. Whatever. But the row-by-row reception makes it really obvious that someone isn't receiving. And that adds social pressure to receive unworthily. Certainly happens to me.

Can someone actually explain to me why receiving Communion in the hand is more sanitary than receiving on the tongue? I have thought about this ever since Covid first hit. I used to be in the army and we trained extensively in biological warfare. One of the main things we trained on is cross-contamination and limiting the amount of contact you have with contaminated surfaces. So if you receive on the tongue you have only one point of possible contact. If the priest sanitizes his hands prior to distribution the only contact is the Host going from his hand to your tongue. He doesn't touch you. Sure you open your mouth and could breathe on him, but if you receive in the hand the Host goes from his fingers to your hand and you still have to open your mouth to say Amen and consume the Body of Christ. In addition, your hands have probably been in contact with the dirty pew, maybe your purse or the collection envelope and who knows what other contaminated surfaces. Then you pick up the Host out of your contaminated, dirty hands and put it on your own tongue. How is this more sanitary than receiving on the tongue?

I agree here. My church has a “crying room” which is a semi-soundproof room with a speaker into it with what the priest is saying, but that isn’t at every church. I agree because there are some parents who cannot afford to put their children with a babysitter every Sunday, so banning crying children is banning Catholics from practicing their faith. Also, if a child sees a parent who doesn’t go to church/isn’t excited to go to church because they’re worried about getting glared at, the child will pick up on that. They’re so much smarter than most people think! If I had to give parents some advice though, sit in the back, just in case the child is inconsolably crying.

I have 9 children ages 15 to 4....I have brought ALL my children to Mass since they were born and we have NEVER, NEVER, NEVER brought food to church for them after they started solid food! (I did step out and nurse them when they were infants). Teach your children. Stop using them as excuses. It is hard, but it is necessary! We are not intolerant of children, we are intolerant of parents who use them as excuses.

I have 5 kids the last 2 are ages 3 & 4. I bring them small toys or on especially cranky mornings they can view (no sound) videos on my phone. It keeps them seated and quiet. It also allows me to pay attention to the mass and homily. At times they come kneel with me and I explain quietly I’m their ears what’s happening and how special it is. I remember attending Latin Mass as a child 4-5yo and my Grandmother giving me death stares and my mother SQUEEZING my hand as the silent way of saying “settle down & pay attention” … I want a positive experience of mass for my little ones and they are getting them. You can’t say you’re a good Catholic if you’re angry that there’s children actually at mass. The called us to be fruitful & multiply, kids in Mass is a result of that 😆

I take public transportation to Mass, and I haven’t habitually came to Mass late. Usually, I’m there at least 5-10 minutes early if not 30-40 minutes early (which the parish I’m transitioning to offers confession 45 minutes before Sunday Mass, 30 minutes before non Sunday daily Mass, and from 3-4:30pm on Saturday afternoon). If none of those confession times work, or let’s say you’re temporarily in the hospital, you can make an appointment or in the latter case, your priest or the chaplain priest for the hospital can visit you and you can have the Sacrament of Confession in the hospital. I’ve had the Sacraments of Confession, Anointing of the Sick and the Eucharist in a short term psychiatric hospital (I have bipolar disorder, and if I don’t take care of it with meds and therapy, I can end up planning my own death or even go so far as I’m a suicide attempt survivor).

Lol! Just finding your channel. May God bless you! This is great! I share in your pet peeves. Except the cutting in the communion line. If I go to the Novus Ordo you’ll see me cut in the communion line to avoid the Eucharistic ministers and receive Our Lord from the priest only. Except in extreme circumstances the priest is the only one whose hands are consecrated to handle Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Having Eucharistic ministers, especially 5 of them to distribute Holy Communion to 40 or so people, is an abuse that I refuse to participate in. To me it’s just as bad as Communion in the hand.

The following is from the book “God is Near Us” (Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Ignatius Press, 2001). “If we read what the Fathers say, we can see in what spirit of reverence they received Communion. We find a particularly fine passage in the writings of Cyril of Jerusalem, from the fourth century. In his catechetical homilies he tells the candidates for baptism what they should do at Communion. They should make a throne of their hands, laying the right upon the left to form throne for the King, forming at the same time a cross. …which becomes a throne, down into which the King inclines himself” (p.70).

I've only really experienced your pet peeves during Novus Ordo masses. since I've been attending the TLM I haven't seen these offenses., also after Covid I've mostly attended SSPX masses (with a few archdiocese TLM masses depending on my son's hockey scheduling) and there's a lot more reverence at them. The closes TLM church to me is SSPX , which also remained open except for one week during the 2020 spring-summer lockdowns in PA, and it was because of an issue which Monsenior quickly resolved with our county D.A. We also had an exemption from the mask mandate. I also noticed at the diocese parish where the 10AM Novus Ordo people came out "masked up" and when we went in for the 11:30 TLM, no masks were worn.

My pet peeve has to be: we are suppose to put Christ in the centre of the things we do, every minute of everyday. So I do, when I’m happy or sad, laughing or crying, I cry out “oh Lord/God.” All the while silently praying for guidance/ wisdom and then taking a breath But all outsiders hear (and judge) is that I was saying the Lord’s name in vain. They don’t hear the prayer yet I’m accused of committing a commandment 🤪❤️🙏🏼

I have had to go to the hospital early March while at church because of pots so I always carry a hydroflask, a salty snack like popcorn, and my salt tablets in case of worst case scenario it’s happened. I talked to my best friend who is catholic when I come to mass with her and she said that’s a different story because I have a chronic illness. I bring the same to my nondenominational church. I also carry around a pulse ox I know strange but it’s for my safety I have also passed out at church before. Is it still wrong if it’s to prevent me passing out specifically with the up and down I just get so dizzy. I’ll leave my stuff in the car if it’s more respectful to do so. I also have a disability that is very obvious and can be disruptive or can seem disrespectful. What I do is call the church and try to speak with the pastor or someone in a leadership position and explain what's going on before I would even try to go to a service. I respect that many people feel strongly about receiving on the tongue. However the church permits receiving on the hand as well (obviously with reverence). No one is a lesser Catholic for receiving on the hands. Just wanted to say this because I’ve been seeing many comments around the internet on this topic and a few of them get a bit rude and condescending. I was taught to receive on the hand for my first communion and up until a little while ago I didn’t even know about receiving on the tongue, but the Lord knows our hearts and that’s what’s ultimately important I think. If the church didn’t permit it I would think differently but since She does at this time It doesn’t bother me which way people choose to receive. All that being said I’m personally in favor of receiving on the tongue now and I would be all for a reform to make that the standard.

Not in any real order other than how they come to mind. 1. Folk Music-type Songs at Mass. I grew up at parish where the music selection was a congregational choir that was infamously tone-deaf or one that was tone-deaf but played along with a praised band that seemed to only know folk music style worship songs from the '60's and the St. Louis Jesuits along with modified mainline prot songs and both congregations often intermingled. What made it really bad is that if I tried suggesting so more traditionally Catholic they would shoot it saying it was difficult. 2. Not knowing the traditional position or you're hands in worship. This is mostly a catch all for the laity praying in the Orans position. Some people imitating the priests signs over the bread and wine and of course holding hands. 3. Being offered just the body. This happened a few times especially during COVID-19 where I would get to a parish and they would only serve out the body and not the blood. Just feels disappointing like you're going to catch up with a friend and you keep getting interrupted. 4. Woke priests sermons having little to do with the scripture lessons, the feast day and what not in favor of sermon on mother nature and other SJWstuff.

My Top 5 Pet Peeves as a Catholic 1. Being told I’m not a real Catholic based on what an atheist or Protestants preconceived notions on my faith are. 2. Teen Masses Groups. Mass is not the same as an assembly so I will not be engaged when the priest is talking about aliens and Fortnite and I can’t even decipher what the priest is trying to say when the other teens who were dragged by their parents are sending each other snaps and talking about a girl or guy they see at mass. 3. Certain Catholic Youth Groups who have less an emphasis on the Catholic Faith and more on the Youth Group. I want to speak out loud saying things like, “You cannot combine Catholicism with BLM.” Mainly this has to do with one Group LifeTeen, and while they have great people at Steubenville Conferences, they have this SJW garbage like “What is Privilege?” and President Randy Raus calling many for Catholic Action Against Police Brutality. They don’t even know what Police Brutality looks like because they only look at MSNBC, NBC, or CNN and don’t actually have a relative in that line of work to actually explain why certain things happened. I say it goes like this, “no matter what color skin you are, if you assault a cop, expect to get shot.” 4. When someone cannot admit that they don’t know something on faith and gives misinformation 5. When someone is dating for the sake of dating. Knowingly wasting time with someone without any intention of marriage is deplorable and disgusting.

Prior to Vatican II in the 1950's and 1960's as a Catholic boy, I went to the altar and the priest placed the Eucharist on the tongue. Blame Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI who were responsible for the Novus Ordum and this Protestantized Roman Catholic religion.
