It's possible that his mother doesn't have memory loss. She may have just realized her mortality and decided that she didn't want to stay angry. Sometimes near death experiences make you realize that life is too short to waste on negativity.

I agree with you 100%. I also think that it’s probable that her views have not changed, but she’ll rather tolerate Sarah just to make peace with her son. Hey, whatever works. If I were Sarah, I would proceed with caution.

his sister didn't have a stroke. his father didn't have a stroke. Mom had a stroke and it may have humbled her. Maybe now that she is dependent on others, maybe she has gained some appreciation for the things that really matter. she may never be able to say this to you. All the years when they rejected you are regrettable, but also if you have each other now, it's all good. You, Sarah, are amazing for your love and ability to discard any bitterness. I don't know I could do that.

That was exactly my thoughts. But the dad and sister didn't have a memory glitch so that rattles me a bit but I get it. I'm happy for Sarah to get this moment....way more patience and forgiveness that I can muster up with...and while part of ego is what's keeping things to be left unsaid on their side, if it works for them then it works. It's been a journey for sure.

These comments are so amazingly true about Sarah's personality or who Sarah is as a person (daughter-in.-law , Wife or sister-in-law ) to her husband's Justin's parent's like his mom sister or Dad. Both of these comments on Sarah character is commendable and touching! They both mentioned she has been caring and supportive of her husband and patient with his family about not fully accepting her and their two young daughters. She's been really respectful of their family traditions and values! It also just goes to show you and let you know that there are some people who may not always agree with two different people marrying outside their own culture or decides to marry a man or a woman of another race rather than their own kind! When I come across or read about relationships such as this one, it represents two people man and woman can have a close relationship or can be in love inspite of their differences! It is such a wonderful thing to find and see! I'm the eldest of three of my siblings! I'm oldest sister and I have a younger sister and a young brother! I'm kind of like Sarah's place being the oldest out of my brother and sister! They are both married and have children of their own! My sister is married her husband is of mixed heritage lof African American and Filipino My sister and brother-in-law has two daughters like this couple ! My young brother started his family before my sister. He and his Wife are an interracial couple! He is African American and his Wife Is French/native American. I'm the only one who is not married and with no children!. I do have a strong interests in mixed couple relationships like this Blasian one! I'm not sure if it is possible for me to marry a man of another ethnicity ! Although I have had secret crush on a few men who celebrities! I thought they were cute looking one being of mixed heritage! This one is former golfer Tiger Woods! This one to name a few. I'm now at an age where people are married with grown sons and daughters who may have children of their own! ,Some People my age could become grandparents because of it! I keeping my options open in the future if I do meet up or find the right kind of person (man) with a kind personality as well as his attractive looks!

Usually for racist people, speaking from experience, it doesnt matter how nice you are- you're still black and they still hate you. I just stay away from people like that. My friend had a super racist MIL and once her eldest (at the time, only) grandchild was born she tried to flip the script without any sort of apology and just exprcted everyone to go along with it due to her age. My friend was never able to truly become comfortable enough to leave the baby alone with her for any length of time, like not even to use the bathroom out of fear she'd have some kind of "accident" with the baby out of how sincere her racism was when she was spewing it to her DIL. That's a kind of karma. Some evils cant be undone, if you want to be regarded kindly, it's best to be kind

I want to say how much respect for you two I have! The maturity you both have shown, the grace, and the love for each other is truly amazing! Giving Justin’s parents so much grace and allowing them to come around on their terms is more than most could or would do. You left your hearts open and now you are allowing your babies to interact with them and his sister. I am only 5:45 into the video so I do not know how the rest of the story is going to go but as a 51 year old grandmother I am so proud of you two! I had my dads side of the family reject my first marriage and my son, as it was an interracial relationship. I was 19 years old and I did not have any contact for 12-13 years with that side of the family. We did come back together and my dad (who had a very hard time with it) was able to enjoy his grandsons and his great-grandchildren before he passed at the end of July 2023 at 74. Thank you for being so generous. I pray for nothing but the best for you and your family!

Yours is a great example of showing forgiveness, and putting your children first. The way you describe how you are intentionally raising your children differently than you were raised shows your love and commitment. It’s work to hash things out. It takes conscious effort to thank each other and apologize to each other. You are teaching your kids they are valued and worthy by treating each other well. You’re on a great journey together!

What I’d like to say abt Justin’s mom coming around post health ER, my mom (whose Korean) was diagnosed w/pancreatic cancer last Thanksgiving. Although we didn’t have the same issues Re: non-acceptance w/spouses, I can say that post diagnosis and failure or treatments, she’s been very apologetic abt things from the past, allows hugs, and every once n a while, I’ll get an “I love you” in return. I think it’s more of putting pride aside due to the reality that life is too short. Nonetheless, I’m happy for you (Sara-you’ve been a rock star). ❤🙏🏾🥰 #team Blasian! Lol

About the memory loss from the stroke - it might just also be the case that when you make a bigoted choice it is really difficult to back away from that, and very hard to reach out and admit you were wrong. My parents did a few things where I wasn't treated kindly due to prejudice, and we went no contact for a while. We only got back in touch due to death in the family, but once we started talking they were trying really hard, and over time I have come to understand that they regretted their decisions and didn't know how to undo the choices they made. They would of course not tell me forthright, but you can tell from their actions. It is difficult to never get an apology, but change in someone who you never thought was capable of it is high reward, and for me it is enough.

I never thought I would see this day! The very first time I heard the story, I thought to myself “I bet they will all be a happy family in six months! But when that didn’t happen, and it went on for years and years and three children later, I thought the mom would NEVER come around! And I think Justin‘s suspicions about the stroke having something to do with his mom coming around are very valid. Obviously the stroke had something to do with it! I mean, the mom literally didn’t want anything to do with Sarah and the minute she has a stroke, she’s OK with Sarah coming to bring food to the hospital?? Yeah, I think the stroke definitely changed her but either way, at least it’s bringing the rest of the family together. And I’m super shocked by how well the sister has handled everything. There were some videos I watched of Justin telling stories about bringing the kids to visit his family and he was getting major attitude from the sister. So I was super surprised to hear how loving and excepting she was of Sarah..all around great news and I’m so happy for you guys!

You guys are far better people than I am. I’d never be able to let bygones be bygones if I was in this situation. I’ve never understood how his parents came from Korea, didn’t learn English, and seem to just live a completely sheltered life? How do they support themselves financially? And why bother coming to Canada if they seem to hate non-Korean people? Why were they so shocked when their son then married someone Canadian? I just don’t understand them at all. But I hope for your sake it all works out. I personally would be worried they would mistreat the children or say terrible things to them about being mixed race.

I agree with all of this but especially the comment about why come to Canada and not only refuse to learn the language but dislike the other citizens of that country. I live in the United States and it reminds me of the Hispanic population that moves here. They come here and are the only group that refuses to learn English, and show an immense disdain and disrespect for Americans but especially black Americans. The people that fought for civil rights to even make it a country they would/could move to. Very disturbing thought process. Intriguing even

Your grace in the face of so many years of rather stubborn disapproval speaks volumes to your individual character, respectively, and no doubt will be passed on to your children. It is a shame that it took such a scary time to trigger the change, but what a beautiful outcome for your littles. Not to mention, regardless the reason for Justin's mom's "change of heart," life is fleeting and time is a thief...so precious that SHE gets to experience the love and respect she wasn't able to give before, herself. You are both showing your families what is HEALTHY in relationships and that you can keep the values you were raised with and show mercy, despite adversity. ❤ I pray the mutual respect and connections will continue to bless you all. From Ireland:She does deserve to have you in her life. She has been very isolated from the culture she now lives in.She is still living with the norms of a different time and society. That she has been able to break free from them is a positive step for all of you.

This woman literally said she didn't want to meet Sarah or her grandkids who were innocent BABIES because of their skin color. I'm being very gentle with my words about her because I love Sarah and she's such a pure soul. However, this woman deserves NOTHING

How long has she been in Canada though? The years the wasted hating lovely Sarah for no reason and now wants them in her life because she NEEDS both their physical and financial help. There are a number of black women who have married Koreans in Korea and have been accepted with open arms. They are on KZfaq. I'm Korean American and I find it completely unforgiveable. They refused to meet their granddaughter for years!

Honestly this has nothing to do with being isolated from the culture she lives in or living with the norms of a different time and society. It’s like saying/alluding that the norm of her familiar society is rac!st. Truth is that she hasn’t held back from acting rac!st towards her DIL and grandkids. It’s her choice to forgive her or not but let’s call a spade a spade.
