Hi 👋🏻 I’m an ICU nurse. Super suspicious that they haven’t been able to find a source of infection (and I hope they tested for Lyme disease) when you and your brother got sick at the same time. Since they have been unsuccessful in finding a source, It may be beneficial to consider getting genetic testing (again) to see if you and your brother have familial encephalitis. Lastly, there are many types of autoimmune encephalitis (ADEM, Anti-NMDAR receptor encephalitis, hashimoto’s encephalopathy, LG11/CASPR2-antibody encephalitis, limbic encephalitis, Rasmussen’s encephalitis, etc). I hope you have a Rheumatologist on your team as well. They are the autoimmune experts and autoimmune conditions love to “play together”.

It will definitely help. As a physician, until I went through my own case of "idiopathic" chronic illnesses, did I start understanding what my patients felt. Certainly don't rush rounds anymore. Sometimes, even if we don't know what the fuck is going on, simply giving a little bit of extra respect and attention goes a long way.

Hey, I hope you see this. I have had the same exact issue. Post viral encephalitis with major neuro deficits, but I developed a Chiari malformation 1. Major head pressure on the left side of my head. I was so so sick from November 2021 until January 2022 until I got on steroids. I haven’t been the same since. There’s no real treatment for it, and doctors don’t know or care to help you. Feeling like you’re going to have a seizure or you’re just exhausted or mentally unable to function. I’m functionally disabled as of right now. You’re not alone!!!

ED Physician Here. First off - thanks for sharing your story. Watched the whole thing and thats about 50:00 minutes longer than I spend with most patients. What you describe sounds like Anti-NMDA receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis 100%. I remember you mentioning your antibodies coming back negative during the saga, but there are a huge list of antibiodies that can contribute, most of which wouldn't be on a typical spinal fluid panel unless you had an astute doc looking out for them/someone assisting with what tests to order. Seems like its on the mend now. Know that if it is NMDAR Encephalitis it can take a year or two to recover. Immunosuppressive therapy (steroids) treatment responsiveness is a hallmark of NMDAR/Autoimmune Encephalitis. I think you nailed the diagnosis long ago. I'm sorry that it took so long for someone to hear your story. I had a case or two of this in residency so it stays fresh in my mind. Thanks for the reminder. And hey thanks for teaching me about covered calls. I wish I would have found your stuff before I found WSBs...the ole P/L would be looking a lot better. Praying for you man. There is a book by a guy by the name of Richard Swanson called Contentment. Quick read. He talks about not wasting the pain. You paid a big price to be able to put that video up today and to have the perspective that you have now. Hoping the roids get this thing licked for you. - Reese

Does this mean the neurons in his brain were having a hard time increasing synaptic strength since NMDA receptors are necessary for LTP? He also said something about myelin sheath degeneration so one way or another it sounds like his neurons were having a hard time of communicating with one another.
@reesedare2208
@reesedare2208 2 жыл бұрын
@@kurtislyons8366 Yo, honestly there is so much crossover between the two that its very hard to tell the difference. Really its just keeping your differnential wider than the common presentations of the psych stuff. But - Viral Prodrome + Neuro symptoms + Psych in a previously psychiatrically normal (assuming) patient. Worth considering. They'll have normal MRI and LP results off the bat. The NMDA Receptor antibody test is usually a send out so you have to have a neuro team willing to treat for a few days or a week even on this assumed dx. The case that sticks out in my mind was a 16 year old straight A student who was normal per her parents but for the past week had increasingly odd behavior after a recent viral illness. Emotionally labile, aggressive/hypersexual which per the parents was not her norm at all. After we did a psych panel, another doc a lot older and smart than me suggested we do the tap/send IgG. Sure enough, when i chart checked her 3-4 days later she was positive. I think her CSF came back normal if I recall but the IgG was present for NR1, which I guess means Anti-NMDA. But what do I know. JAFERD.

Totally agree, I’m in health care and I feel like I don’t have enough time to problem solve. And then through out the day, you have to get thru so many patients who have weird symptoms that you don’t know what to chase down, so you end up going with your gut and end up putting people in a box. And when your tests are inclusive you only have a hypothesis; repeat that several times a day for several years; you end up with burn out and compassion fatigue

I told my dad once that I thought the world around me was hell, everyone looking so evil, and that I couldn’t figure out why I was being punished. One day you'll be able to look back and see why you had to go through this in order to get to the next stage of your journey. Like many here I suspect, I watched the whole 52 minutes in one sitting. I found your channel just a couple of weeks ago while researching options and became an instant fan. Guess I was watching all your older videos while you were going through this hell. Hang in there, glad that things are already looking up and that you were able to come back to the channel. (Oh, and you're a great storyteller...) All the best to you and Eric.

Wow man, What a horrific journey that must have been for you. My heart goes out to you dude. This isn't too far different than my new struggle with temporal lobe epilepsy which has been absolutely horrifying. I don't convulse with my seizures so it was a long haul to get it diagnosed and many doctors were also very consistent with trying to psych diagnose. Those feelings of disassociation, psychosis, and anxiety that just pull you so far away from reality for breaks of time are really true hell and its absolutely terrifying. I'm glad you won your fight with the doctors to get proper treatment. Take care man and keep going strong, you got this.

Man, what a heartbreaking story. I am sorry for what you're going through. As you say, these experiences really trim the fat in your life. Small problems don't need to matter, live the day as it comes and be thankful for all the good things that surrounds you. Your family, your brothers, your community, and all the small things that makes life on earth so magical. From simple sun ray warming your body, to the beautiful feeling of touching grass or petting your dog. You probably feel very alone in there, but you're not. Know we are all witnessing your courage and admiring you. We hope you will get better soon. You're a great person and what you create helps all of us. It's the least we can do to support you in going through this tough time. Wishing the best for your brother and you. Take care.

Jesus Christ man, I just finished the entire video and story...My heart goes out to you, legit. I have battled my own demons, except mine ARE mental health related, and I know a bit what it's like to feel alone and on an island with a very unusual condition that you have to battle every day. My sister went through her own unique physical issues and it took her years before finding a doctor that gave a damn and helped her finally find out what was wrong. Support is everything, and I wouldn't be here without my family and friends (neither would she). I've learned so much from your channel and about options trading. I found your channel in the last few months and had wondered why the videos had seemed to suddenly stop abruptly. I had no idea it was related to something like this...We're all here for you man. Take it one day at a time 👍

Adam, thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your journey and watch you grow and live. Your story is overwhelmingly heart breaking while it's also a terrifying reality. I am happy you're a believer because without Him the outcome could have been so much worse. I'm a mom of 2, son -26 daughter -10, and they watch you also. My prayers go to you and your family and especially your mom for being there as I know it was excruciating for her also being so scared for you. I am so happy you're better and I trust your words will provide strength, hope, peace and encouragement to someone who feels the desperation you did. Stay strong! You're an amazing soul with so much left to learn as well as teach and you're are needed in this crazy ass "reality" we seem to share. Thank you adam! Hugs from us 3

I am happy you are doing better now and I am humbled by the lessons you are teaching us with this story ( Though truly I wish this never happened to you or your brother). It’s crazy how much life can change, 2 years ago you were teaching me about wheeling and credit spreads, now you are teaching me to appreciate every moment and that health is true wealth. I hope you continue to recover and I look forward to continue learning from you.

@@InTheMoneyAdam Adam, watching your video was so upsetting, just to see such an intelligent person have to go through such devastating cognitive decline. I imagine that must have been the worst nightmare; I know it would be for me. I was actually in distress listening to what happened to you and was in tears at the end. You poor baby, I am SO SORRY that you and your brother had to endure that. I immediately prayed for you, that God would give you peace and comfort. I am so thankful that you have your facilities mostly back and it seems like you remain intact, thank God. What a Godsend those steroids were; amazing how that helped. Sounds extremely similar to my symptoms when I got Lyme bacteria from a tick bite. It came on pretty suddenly like you and the easiest symptoms were physical, fatigue etc... but the scariest and strangest symptoms were mental like you described. I also had the shaking, numbness, words coming out wrong, mental fatigue and I had that strange feeling (which you described well) of the world suddenly being desolate along with panic attacks (I never had them before the tick bite). Super strange, and the hardest part is no one understands what you are going through. I would get a lymes test if I were you, but don't research it TOO much online because unfortunately there are some wackos on the online forums. I remember trying to share my story of recovery, and everyone accused me of being an undercover doctor. Rest, relax, meditate, exercise and recover. Hope you heal up fast!

The bacteria doesn't, but an autoimmune condition can be caused by it which can last for extended periods for some people. Others won't have any symptoms from Lyme and their immune system will flush it out immediately. Same with a lot of these weird little problems, theyre exaggerated by some of our bodies. This is important to understand for a lot of people because it's easy to start blaming every little symptom on a disease that may or may not be causing them, years later. Hope you're on the road to recovery!

Watching this and very glad your feeling better than how you were while going through that hell. Auto immune diseases are the worst because they are so hard to diagnose and doctors (very concerning to see how some of these people got medical licenses) don’t always know what to do and getting appointments with specialist take foreverrrr when they shouldn’t. I’ve been having inflammatory auto immune issues in my joints (no where serious as your condition)for years and doctors played it off as disc herniations for a while and when I finally found a rheumatologist he did the same thing you said and wanted me to take 4 months in between trying new medications but they weren’t working and my condition was progressing. Thankfully found a new doc and things seem to be working better although having to wait on insurance to approve medication still sucks. Hope you continue to recover and stay positive!

Hearing your recount of what you're currently recovering from was heart-wrenching, terrifying, and truly eye-opening to just how bad neurological conditions can get. I had some inkling of an idea what it must be like but this was far scarier than what I imagined. It really does make me wonder just how many people are stuck and left to suffer all due to misdiagnosis and whether there is some way to increase proper treatment to relieve a bit of pain in this world. If you know of anything please share. Glad to hear you are beginning to feel better and that you continue recover. Stay safe and take care.

Just like how you explained, the worst part of all this was trying to explain to other people the misery I was going through and noone taking me seriously because there wasn't anything objective that they could see. In the beginning I was actually scared but eventually it turned into hoping thay I have some disease so people would just believe me.
