@@802Garage because it was my first major maintenance, there is no working room and I had a hard time with the hose clamps and hoses themselves, took me a while to get used to it. I was scared of ripping them off because it was sooo tight, so I took it slow.

@@robsonselzelin Totally fair. I was just wondering if there was something specific about the Tribeca that made it worse. The auto trans cooler lines are always a pain too. IIRC the Tribeca also mounts the radiator in a more annoying way where you had to remove some extra bits compared to normal Subarus. At least you got it done!

Have same issue. Hose popped. But no overheating. Caught right away got fluid and drove home. Still running at temp. Parked at home Started testing. Upper and lower heating the same as mentioned in other video. Pressure tested radiator would drop to 13lb and hold for a while but eventually would lose Pressure. Getting some bubbles when gets to temp. Shut down and tested pressures at temp and got hose to pop again at 14psi. Didn't know about barb until watched this episode. Will check tonight. Just like you timing sucks for hg job. Will try what you did ,just curious. Its been 8 months. Update on your brother's outback? 2012, 2L EJ. 180k

Hi! I'm trying to figure out whether there's a way to mount a DEFA engine heater in the plug at the bottom of the radiator of my 03 Forester 2.0X automatic without having to completely drain the system. I've seen the shop vac trick for the oil.. is there a way to do that with the cooling system as well?

Mr. Subaru, I'm having serious problems with my 2020 Crosstrek rear differential. I can't get it apart because it's galvanically corroded (aluminum sundial in an iron housing + road salt). I've done heat, penetrant, hitting it for 10 days and it budged 1mm. But with all the hitting I'm destroying the sundial and I don't think it will come out without destroying it. I'm trying to put a Torq-locker in it, that's why I want to take it apart. Do you know if I can use a 5 bolt 4.44 in there? What about the axles for the 5 bolt, are they different from the 1 bolt in length or teeth? And if they are different, do you know if the 5 bolt axles will be able to plug into the rest of the components on the wheel side? I'm sorry this is so much to read, but I am incredibly frustrated with my Subaru and no one seems to know anything about this differential, not the dealer and not any independent Subaru shops I've called. I even had to make my own tool to fit on the sundial because no one sells a tool to take it apart. I'm hating this Subaru and I feel like the company has designed them to be not opened and just thrown away/dealer serviced only. Please help me if you feel like it

I've been noticing excessive amounts of debris between radiator and condenser two of these 2012 and 2013 the that need head gaskets because of overheating and blowing hose off top of radiator. I believe it's because the foam seals so good between radiator and condenser that debris cannot escape. Both had radiator 75 percent clogged with bugs and cattail like fuzz. My first fb engine head gasket job starts tomorrow. It has slight bubbling in radiator and an awful carbon smell in antifreeze.

The problem is most likely air in the coolant system. When the upper radiator hose blew the first time, it allowed air in the system. Put it all back together and bleed the lines. Should be good to go after that.

Robert, my 2011 OB Limited did the same thing. Are these plastic radiator tanks suspect at about 10-12 years? Is it advised to change these radiators out? I got lucky; I was idling in a parking lot and steam started pouring out from under the hood. Temperature gauge never moved. I got out and saw all the coolant then noticed the upper hose was off. I took off the hose, retrieved the broken plastic and was able to “MacGyver” the hose and clamp further onto the upper radiator outlet, add water and drive home.

@mrsubaru1387 I have a 2011 Outback. I did this replacement too. I had the same exact issue with the radiator inlet pipe breaking off into upper radiator pipe. Now I have random issues with my cooling system. I replaced the upper radiator hose and put a new OEM radiator cap on it. I also put a new aisin thermostat in her. But I have a po128 code and I have random bubbles in my radiator reservoir tank. I block tested it three times to make sure it wasn’t a head gasket issue. It passed all three times. No smoke from the exhaust, oil is clean and so is the coolant. I’m about to replace the coolant temperature sensor today. If this doesn’t fix my issue what else could it be? Could it be a water pump starting to go out? Or maybe a tensioner on the timing belt not doing what it is supposed to? Please any advice would be much appreciated. I only get the bubbles in the radiator reservoir tank when at operating temperature after a longer drive. And the coolant will fluctuate way above the full line and then bubble over the top. Then randomly go back down and be fine. I also pressure tested the radiator. It passed the pressure test.

Checked the water pump for operation, good. (Replaced timing belt and pump, etc 7000 miles ago) Now, I used the same funnel for bleeding air but all of my fluid boiled! Took 20 minutes of running the engine before the thermostat wanted to open!?? Meanwhile I’ve got coolant boils over every where… lol. Why? After every drive, it smells like coolant. Oil looks good. Did the chemical test, no apparent signs of head gasket issues 🤷‍♂️ If you have a DM or email would love to discuss.

MrSubaru: Different topic I know, but: Have you ever done a video covering the grinding noise that some WRXs experience when decelerating in-gear from ~35mph? I've searched this topic here a few times, but come up short on good answers. The consensus by internet randoms seems to be that it's just an 'operating as designed' quirk, but I've never come across an explanation from anyone with verifiable bonafides. Even if that noise is 'operating as designed', it would sure be more comforting to know the exact cause of the noise. Mine is a 5-speed 2014. Best example I can find on KZfaq of the noise: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nqlpnrCQrbiocqM.html
