When I needed engine work done on my Mitsubishi Outlander I had to call a lot of shops. Some said "No" as soon I said Mitsubishi. Some said "No" when I said it was a V6. Others said "No" when I told them it was a MIVEC V6. Took a lot of calls to track down a shop, but I finally found a good one. It then took 2 weeks to order a crank pulley bolt... from Dubai. I love my Mitsubishi, and plan to own more, but dayum that was frustrating. I'm sad you had give up on your Montero.

Nathan, this is the BEST used capable 4x4 SUV purchase one would make. Go to any pick your part yard and have at it being it a car seat bottom cover or door panels and anything else you would need. The selections and options for WJs at any yard are endless simply because Jeep sold more WJs than other Jeeps during those years. Having had Grand Cherokees in my family since the first ZJ and telling people over the years about ZJs WJs and also WKs quality and capabilities, Im so glad TFL brought the WJ platform to people in 2021 and that people are realizing that this Jeep was built with quality parts, engineering and capabilities! Enjoy brother 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Btw, I agree, Tommy is getting dangerous with the knife stabbing cuts 😂😂😂

Shame you had trouble with the Montero. I've owned 3 over the last 12 years ( in Colorado just like you ) and none of them have ever left me stranded. Yes , they all took some maintenance but that's a given with 15-25 year old trucks. Also , I've never once struggled to find parts. I've done 3 full timing belt jobs , brake accumulator , gaskets , suspension and all the maintenance items you can imagine and not once with any of my rigs I wasnt able to find OEM Mitsubishi or high quality parts withing a few days shipping. I've been currently driving a 3rd gen identical to your old one since 2016 and it hasn't broke down once. Hope your next one is a better experience!

Solid purchase! I bought my 2000 WJ 4L as a lease return in 2003 and sold it after 18 years and almost 200k on the engine and transmission. I never had anything major go down. It did have a known oil leak; the same driver side door and leather seat wearing; there was a reoccurring wiring problem with the automatic locks and windows (there’s a master wire that runs into the passenger side door and it will chafe); lastly I had to change a speed sensor, I believe that failed at 140kish miles. Make the wife and daughter happy, have it painted, the roof and roof rack will start to show its age next.

That's the one thing keeping us from getting a Montero that doesn't have under 150,000 miles at least! and under $8000, knowing we will be doing some upgrades here and there. But the Parts are hard to come by or mechanics who are super familiar with working on it, outside of taking it to a Mitsubishi dealer.

Great decision. If it wasn’t an H3 Alpha, second choice would have been a 4.7 WJ. Would suggest cutting out the headaches and locate a matching used hood in insurance-grade condition or finding a reputable paint shop to match the factory color code.

@BL Dontmatter EVERY company can have vehicles that are unreliable or lemons; happens to Toyota, Subaru, Honda, all the brands that are synonymous with reliability. Mitsubishi, Audi, Volkswagen are all highly reliable vehicles if you keep up on particular maintenance, which the previous owner may have neglected, and he didn't know to check for. Keep the 4.7l cool and it will last a long time. My 02 Ram 1500 went 350,000 miles without any issues until one day coming back from a funeral the upper radiator hose sprung a leak and lost its coolant when the temp gauge pegged all of a sudden went from 195 to over 240 I pulled over immediately and shut off the truck. Caught a ride from a passerby and replaced the radiator hose and replenished the coolant. Went to start it up and bleed the coolant system and it popped a head gasket and was billowing steam out the exhaust. It made the 55 miles trek back home but the damage was done. I can still go out in the backyard where it sets and it will start up and run but the 4.7l is such a expensive engine to replace I am hunting down a 5.7 Hemi to replace it with.

@@MichaelSmith-kr9qw 02 RAM? You might have to replace the computer or flash it for the Hemi. They didn't start putting the Hemis in until the 2003 model. If you can't find an affordable Hemi you can always get a 5.2L or a 5.9L Magnum which was what was in the 2002 Dodge Ram.

I absolutely love the 4.7l powered WJs. However, as they age, there are a few things that can be troublesome. There are some reliability concerns in the valve train, and head gaskets. Both can be addressed before they fail, and it will save you money in the long run. Personally I would replace the worn sagging springs with a 1" lift to set it at the same height as the Overland+ was from the factory.

I'm sorry man, that Mitsubishi was nice! I had a few of them years ago but now I own Jeeps! I guess that's your destiny!

Nathan, you may want to look into getting a gas tank skid plate and an upgraded rear bumper.

Maybe get a pair of led headlight assemblies. That would really help with night driving and driving in inclement weather as well.

That stick-on leatherette looks fantastic - just like something that would come in a Bentley! That said, your Jeep seems perfect for your intended uses. Congrats!

Don't see many Shogun/Montero where I live, they used to be popular but are a rare sight now, I used to work on the Highway Agency's ( UK ) Mitsubishi Shogun's that had getting on for half a million miles on them, these vehicles if they broke down they got fixed with Genuine Mitsubishi part's the cost must have been immense, looks like a good purchase especially with all the extra money that's been lavished upon it, should see you alright 👍

I have a former coworker that is rocking one of these Monteros and has been for as long as I can remember. I guess it is dope.

I think you did well. A light sand to remove the clearcoat then reshoot it with clear and you're good to go in that respect. I also love the WJ. Mine is a 1999. I think it might have outclimbed my old XJ, but my WJ has all the goodies including vari trac. Thumb up for the WJs. 😎

I had a 1998 5.9 Limited that) was fastest SUV made (amazing how far we’ve come). Then I added a 2001 4.7 HO Limited WJ. To be honest I loved both but I loved the sound of the 360 in the ZJ way more

The only thing missing from your video was all the video clips of you trash talking the jeep, Lol we all know it’s all in good fun but now you had to eat it lol All in good fun 🙏🏻 enjoy the many more miles the Jeep has to offer. I have in my rotation a 1994 grand Cherokee V8 all wheel drive with 126 that still kicking butt And is smooth as silk on the highway doing 90😳😳 congrats🥂 Hopefully you’ll do an update before you get rid of it

Mitsubishi Montero parts are not hard to come by. Rock Auto has plenty, and other places online. I've done all my maintenance and repairs myself, except transmission fluid change. 06 Montero 5 years owned.
