Since I've been getting questions about where to begin with my Hidden Lands world, I made a video about the timeline of what I've written and where it's going. Some spoilers about character marriages, children, and broad political history. I sketched the characters while chatting, which...went a bit awry, but...

Love the idea of drawing the characters instead of grabbing a photo on Pinterest for inspiration. But I only draw stick figures. lol.

Inspiration photos are good sometimes too, but ultimately...well, for starters there are no real doll people so I had to learn to sketch, LOL

There is actually an art method that is "no eraser" it supposedly actually helps you hone your art more than with an eraser cos you know you cannot undo it

genuinely cannot wait to read each and every book in this world. also i think you don't have to do this exact thing. i mean drawing and talking at the same time. you could always set out a time to draw more characters or more from one particular story off camera and then have a voice over with all the finished images and just you telling us more!

That means so much to me. And also, that is, in hindsight, a very smart and obvious way to do it...! That's great! I wanted to do a fashion one and after this one was such a mess I wasn't sure anymore.

I admire your drawing skills and I really liked how this video turned out. Felt like I was watching a behind the scenes segment where an artist sketches and talks about their first inspirations for how things in the feature would look. The passion I could sense from the way you talked about your characters as you drew them made me want to check out one of your books, I just ordered a paperback The Broken Queen! Appreciate your humble transparency in your videos, they ooze with warmth and authenticity. Feel like I'll be checking out a book that a really good friend wrote. Can't wait.

Yeah, it helped that I honed my skill when I was young and bored. My dad is a musician and my parents dragged me to a lot of folk and bluegrass music shows as a teenager, which at the time I didn't care about at all, so I just brought a sketchbook and sketched the whole time. If I had to figure all of this out, it would be way harder. They still don't always look like my imagination though!

I finished the "Sorcerer's Concubine". I enjoyed it. I was glad you didn't end the book with Vesla in some dangerous predictament. I am probably not your demographic for this book. I did enjoy the world that they live in and would like to read more about it. I am not really interested in the romance/steamy bits. Glad I read it and will try next one. Cheers

I tried to reply to this and I think KZfaq ate my comment. But, anyway, it's totally fine to hang out at the channel and not read my books. They do all have romance. Although The Sorcerer's Concubine probably does have the most steam per page count because I was really trying to figure out the lucrative steamy romance market when I wrote it.

Thanks for sharing I find your setting interesting! I have a question though - if the Darumon won the war and slavery is still legal then why are the doll children able to be adopted instead of being slaves?
@lidiyafoxgloveauthor
@lidiyafoxgloveauthor 10 күн бұрын
Yeah, I didn't clarify that very well. It's a lot to cover! Slavery is illegal in the Miralem lands and the peace treaty signed after the war did have a stipulation that all Fanarlem in the Miralem lands would remain free, so any Fanarlem who escaped or were liberated during the war remained free there. They could also continue escaping to the Miralem lands, although the Daramons were very aggressive at the border for a little while after the war.
