Join me on a fell run in the western part of the Lake District. We take in four Wainwrights and I inadvertently complete my first half marathon.
As a new runner and having previously struggled with chronic fatigue, this has been a good confidence builder to know that I can run. I also share a little about our canicross setup which I find works well for hiking and running with my dog.
I hope you enjoy coming along for the ride!

Hi, I’m Chloe. I grew up in the lovely Devonshire countryside though, seeking wilder and more rugged landscape, now live in Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District with my husband Ryan and our spaniel, Cam, Join us on our adventures in the fells. We love wild camping and swimming, climbing, hiking the Wainwrights, scrambling, fell running and exploring historical sites. I hope our videos give you a moment of calm and cosiness and a little inspiration to get out on your own adventures.

As a middle aged man who has spent all of his adult life Walking, Climbing and sometimes Running in the Lake District Fells I find your videos very inspirational and particularly now as I am having problems with my lower back which have necessitated having painful injections in my spine. As a woman who has suffered from CFS/ME (mild-moderate) for 35 years, and slowly started to be able to run a bit this autumn, I know just how divine it feels being able to get your heart pumping a bit without feeling like you're going to faint! And the pure joy of not crashing one to two days later! I have a Giant Schnauzer (Henry) who helps pulling me uphill, and then I run on flat ground and downhill 😊 Not quite a half marathon yet 😂, but so satisfying non the less! Beautiful video, and loved seeing more of your gorgeous Springer Spaniel! ❤🐾

I undoubtedly say this with each of your videos, but it's certainly worth repeating: I absolutely love everything about your videos!!! The narration, the citations, the drone footage, the music, the scenery, and all the behind the scenes work, including the editing! Love it!!! And you're very fortunate to live in such a beautiful area! What kind of magic could you work with a stubborn 9 year-old mini schnauzer??? I would love to take him on longer hikes (longer than 4km), but when he's done, he's DONE! Good thing he's cute!

Ahh thank you so much, that's so kind of you and really nice to have that feedback 😊 Oh bless him. If it were me, I'd probably stick to giving him short, slow, sniffy walks and then going out on a hike separately, if you have someone that could look after him? You can even get dog buggys! But that would only work for easier tracks of course, not going up the fells 😅

Great video as usual. Scenery and footage stunning. We have a 2 yo cockapoo and a 13 yo cavapoo. Sometimes it's difficult balancing them. the cockapoo would run for miles but the cavapoo just wants to eat and sleep at his age. Then I feel guilty not taking the 2 yo out for longer. if I do without Cavapoo, then I feel guilty not taking the old boy with us. Dogs, don't you just love them 🙂.

Aw yes I can imagine. I'm sure the older one is content with a comfy place to sleep and snuggles 😊 Sometimes I don't do many miles when I go to the woods but Cam is happy to spend ages sniffing around, or sometimes I'll do scatter feeding in a quiet field or play scent games, perhaps that would be a way to do less distance but still spend time outside?

I loved the Gimli reference at 13 minutes, lol! Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli chase down some orcs to save Merry & Pippin. Running in boulder fields is rough on the ankles. I like to zone out on runs, but you can't bc you have to pay attention to foot placement with all those rocks. It's like running through old lava flows where I live.

Wow, that's going in at the deep end. Most people start with Couch to 5K or their local parkrun, you run a half marathon up fells!

I started with a couple 5 mile road runs but then it was a bit of a jump to fell running 😅

Enjoyable watch. Well done on the unintentional half marathon. As nominated family trek leader I often under estimate miles in the Lakes. 😂. Did you head up from Ennerdale?
@FablesandFells
@FablesandFells 2 ай бұрын
Haha yes we didn't map the distance out ourselves as knew it was a route in the Stuart Marshall Walking the Wainwright's book (minus Haycock). We went from the Blakeley Raise stone circle.

Beautiful video, as always - thank you! may I ask what language that is at about 11:30? Sounds a little like Gaelic? Or maybe it's just my hearing...

You can park near Blakeley Raise stone circle and the tops are Grike, Crag Fell, Caw Fell & Lank Rigg.

The video is awesome, colour grading between the drone and camera is seamless I think this is perfect - what you doing with the audio? The background noise cancelling is too much to sound natural. Hope you accept this in the spirit it was intended. Wishing you continued success with your channel, I watch all your videos

Thanks. I struggle with audio. I've gone through a number of mics that have not worked well. Wind noise on the fells is often really strong too, so background cancelling is sometimes necessary to make it viable. I do want to improve this area and have nice ambient sound.

A field recorder with a decent dead cat, like the Tascam DR 05 is really convenient. You can record a consistent ambient background to lay down behind multiple edits. You can build up a your library of sounds. Also good for capturing streams, birdsong, conversations, overlaying voice overs etc@@FablesandFells

I don't but you can park here: maps.app.goo.gl/QemkyhT2D9GRVRM16 ...And then it's pretty straightforward to plot the route - Grike, Crag Fell, Caw Fell, Lank Rigg. We went out to Caw Fell and then back down the way we came (along the wall) and then skirted along the contours to the site of the plane crash and onto Lank Rigg. It's not a marked path on the map, more of a sheep trod but takes you directly through the plane crash and then just keep the height onto the col between Whoap and Lank Rigg.
