MY FIRST CYLINDER MOWING CLIENT. Reel mowing Tifftuff & Buffalo grass.

Hey everyone
Hope you have all been well and getting ready for christmas.
Finally had some time to shoot a video at my very first cylinder mowing client in my lawns & garden business.
Tiftuff is the grass variety inside and Sir walter Buffalo on the outside. Both cut at different heights.
The sun is out and very hot in Brisbane at the moment but the double cut and the sun really helped the lawn stripes pop.
The Tiftuff is still recovering in some areas from the lawn renovation I recently completed on this property.

Great video mate.Too anyone with a Scott Bonnar or Rover 45 always mow in anti clockwise direction ( keep chain guard facing inside lawn) as you can get closer to fences,walls etc. After you start mower drop the revs when you engage/disengage reel.Always disengage reel when removing catcher to empty and engage again once catcher is installed. You don’t need to fully depress clutch or even engage it at all( I just push mine on flat ground). You don’t need to run engine at full revs when cutting and when you first do your perimeter pass…mow 2 rows to give you turning room for your pass coming back at end of pass and keep you from hitting and fences,walls etc. That’s all I can think of right now.

Do the first cut catcher on and second cut catcher off, get in the corners on the second cut no catcher. Somtimes whiping or edging after works good. 👍

I don't use a catcher on the perimeter pass on my cylinder mower you can get in some tight spots that way. Great video 👍

Thanks mate. Ye, I just dont want to throw grass all over the garden beds, though I will be doing a full garden overhaul on this place and extending the lawn area. 👍

Great job. The Yard looks beautiful I’m glad you recommended Reel mower on that property. I don’t think I would have used the Customers trash can though

Hey Ben would love to share a heap of info to you but I'll stick to some key points. Scott bonnars are great domestic mowers but not the best commercially. They rattle a lot when mowing and rattle a lot on the back of a trailer. I recommend learning everything you can, even getting a second one that you can use incase ones out of action & that you can use to learn how they work. You will need to check everything is tight on them weekly. The other thing for commercial cylinder mowing is with the edging is to use power rotary scissors. Makes a big difference in appearance to the customer. You can also mow without a catcher to save time as long as the clients lawn is weed free. Lastly, I'd push clients to use a pgr. You need to cylinder mow atleast twice a week, clients won't pay for that. At a premium price for cylinder mowing they are expecting a premium lawn. If your leaving it 7+ days to mow your going to break the 1/3 rule and the clients lawn won't look the best.

Hey mate Great advice. You are spot on, I thought I would start with this and save some dollars for a Mow Master for the client work. Ive been wanting to buy some rotary scissors for awhile, ahve just been tossing up which brand to get. You quickly realise with cylinder mowing that a whipper just does not cut it...pardon the pun... A fresh PGR batch arrived last week, so hping to get that down next week. Growth has been crazy, and more rain has come through Brisbane. Great vid again mate. Perhaps consider speaking to Corbin at Brisbane Cylinder Mowers about a set of Transport Wheels as this will protect your front and rear rollers when moving over hard and uneven surfaces. Also consider disengaging the cutting reel when removing and installing the catcher, keep up the great work mate.

Hey mate Thanks. Ye, have been meaning to get down to BCMS to get a few things, but I just have not had the time. Might have to wait for this season to slow down. I'm based on the North side. Hey mate! How do you get your trailblazer line to stay straight. When I put mine into my speed feed it, the ends that come out are always curved and bent which makes it horrible at edging because it’s wobbling so much. Your ends seem to be pretty straight when your head isn’t spinning. Any advice?

Hey mate. To be honest, I could not say why lol. Mines sits on my trailer open to the elements. Maybe that helps. I buy the 1kg amount. If you are buying the smaller quantity that comes on the clear plastic packaging, it is more tightly wound round, so that could explain it? Sorry I was not much help lol 😃 👍

I'm assuming you're using a tripod? You could rig up a shade or umbrella for your camera. If you wanted to go nuts, a small, directly solar powered fan. Hopefully you charge more for cylinder mowing. Way more time consuming and maintenance compared to rotary.
