MY FIRST TIME WATCHING SPIDER-MAN! THIS IS ICONIC!

Thanks for being here! If you want to watch these movies uncut, check out my Patreon linked below :). Now that I have watched all of the Spider-Man movies (except for 2 of Tom Holland's) I think my SPIDER-MAN, is Tobey Maguire. He is the perfect Peter Parker. The Green Goblin story is also iconic in this film and I'm glad I saw Williem Dafoe's CREEPY and very believable portrayal of this villain. He is too perfect for this role! And you know me, I need a little romance in my films, and the upside down kiss gave me all the butterflies! What's your favorite scene in this movie?
I watched Tom Holland's Spider-Man, and there is no backstory oh how he was bitten- what happened to his parents- how he learned his abilities, etc. Without watching the previous Spider-Man movies I would not have a clue about his origin and backstory. These are absolutely necessary to watch and while watching Tom Holland's Spiderman, it is very obvious they expect the viewer to have seen the other films. Just some thoughts!

The best thing about the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies is how they made Peter Parker's life relatable even though his alter ego Spider-Man is a superhero. They made Peter's life relatable and you actually feel for him when he has to make the tough sacrifices to be the hero. Even without the action scenes, you can watch these movies just with the good dialogues because you feel connected to the characters. Even Mary Jane, who people sometimes criticize for being a damsel, is well written. Sure the screaming is annoying, but she is a strong character. You dont need to have muscles and ripped physique to be called a strong character. Her arc is relatable, she has ambitions of her own to make it in the real world. She was raised in an abusive household and all she ever wanted want some comfort. Thats why she seeked that from the boyfriends and only Peter could give it to her. Thats why when she says to Peter that he made her feel, "THAT I AM MORE THAN I EVER THOUGHT I COULD BE, THAT I AM JUST, ME." That is great writing to make you feel for the character. Aunt May is the anchor in Peter's life. Whenever there is trouble in Peter's life, Aunt May is the wise person to pull him out of the darkness. Thats why I hated what they did with Marisa Tomei in the Tom Holland movies and virtually made her a cheerleader rather than a wise guide that Peter can always go to.
@liteney

That mary jane is a damsel in distress is socialist nonsense. They would have to say the same about the children whom screamed while he saved them in the tram, or anyone else spider-man saves. It's pure nonsense. Mary Jane is awesome. Spider-Man is awesome. Socialists are losers who can't get laid. :) Cheers

This actually wasn’t technically Marvel when it came out. It was Sony, but Spider-Man is a Marvel Comics character. Sony and Marvel didn’t band together and bring Spidey into our current cinematic Universe until 2017 with the first Tom Holland Spider-man movie coming out ( well, actually you could say Civil War, but he wasn’t solidified as a reoccurring character until he got his solo movie). This will always remain my favorite non Marvel studios Marvel film, and big extention favorite live action comic book movie of all time. Definitely a rewatchable classic at this point. Can’t wait for you to react to Spider-Man 2, it’s the best one out of all three.

Norman Osborn has a split personality, one is Osborn, and the other is the Green Goblin. "Bone Saw" is portrayed by a pro wrestler, the late "Macho Man" Randy Savage, even using the Savage signature move, the diving elbow off the ropes. This was after Hulk Hogan appeared in Rocky 3. This led to a lot if wrestlers appearing in movies, but relatively few actors trying to be wrestlers. You've very right about the transitions and other story elements having a nostalgic feel, but they also did at the time of release (though the movie definitely shows elements of being a 2003 film, as well). Sam Raimi, a visionary, groundbreaking director who has absolutely changed how we tell stories visually while being completely irreverent (kinda an Andy Kaufman deal, maybe?), chose to lean really heavily into both the story and the feel, narratively and visually, of the original Spider-Man comics, and it works *so* well. This film could easily have felt cheesy in less talented hands, but Raimi et al bring such earnestness to it that you never question buying-in. Major elements of the MCU owe their emotional weight to this series of movies. Don't wanna give spoilers, but I think those who know can guess what I mean. Holland is a great Spider-Man, but Tobey got the world to fall in love with Peter Parker. He manages to be the underdog and the hero at the same time; if you ask yourself in any given situation, "What would Spider-Man do?", it's probably the right choice. BTW, it's a fair question as to why Goblin didn't unmask Spider-Man when he had the chance. I think the answer is that GG really wanted Peter to join him of his own free will. If he blackmailed Parker into doing so, Spider-Man would always be looking for a way to get out from under Gobby's thumb. At least, that's what Goblin would do in that situation, so he assumed the same of our wall-crawling friend, probably accurately. There's something of a Batman/Joker vibe here; Goblin, who only wants power, is kinda fascinated by someone who doesn't, and probably more than a little threatened.

12:36 Tobey Maguire insisted on doing this for real. They had to shoot it many times until he caught it all perfectly.

Fun fact about this movie: the original posters and trailers had to be pulled because they featured shots of the Twin Towers and since the movie came out in 2002, that was an issue for obvious reasons.

The soundtrack for Spiderman Tobey maguire is another level. This is the thing with old films. They have alot talented people with soundtrack that you can feel it not only hear it. The soundtrack is just another level they put and sync with the scene very well. And you can have some goosebump Everytime i heard the soundtrack opening Spiderman Tobey Maguire it's just makes me wanna cry. It feels truly emotional in some of way. Well maybe because when i was a kid this is the first superhero movie that i love to watch. Anyway. It's a good movie. Every movie has it own flaws. This movie too. But that doesn't mean overall bad. It's just good it's own way

I believe Norman was never evil. It was the Goblin the whole time. At the end I think the Goblin was acting to be Norman. Just my opinion

I think it was a split. When he begs Peter to stop & reveals himself, I think that's Norman. But listen to his voice when he says "don't let him take me again." It changes back to the Goblin pitch. So it seems like Norman came out briefly, then Goblin overtook him again & used the situation to his advantage.

Good reaction...but it's actually a 2001 movie, but released in 2002 instead due to the attacks on 9/11/2001. The original release date was supposed to be around September 2001, and the trailers depicted Spider-Man swinging by the World Trade Center buildings. But after the attack, the studio held back the 2001 release date out of respect, and instead released in in 2002 (not 2003). So, all of the effects are really from 2000/2001. Also, by 2001 people weren't really using newspapers that much to look for things listed to buy... but I suppose that movies and TV shows (just like today), still use old tech to make a point poetically. For instance, even in current movies and TV shows, Hollywood still uses the 'Answering Machine' as a means for characters to check messages, even though people mostly stopped using answering machines since the early 1990s when Voice Mail became a thing. Btw, it's a good movie, but one of my pet peeves about it is that this script was obviously written by a non-New Yorker who thinks that Queens (which is a borough of NYC) is somehow a great distance away from Manhattan, when in fact that #7 Subway line that Peter Parker and Mary Jane live close to, would easily take them to Manhattan in about 10 mins for a $1 (ONE dollar) subway ride at that time...lol. As someone who lives in NYC, people travel between Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan effortlessly...lol. (Except during rush hour with packed trains). And the drive is also very short (10-15 mins) without traffic. And yes, I purposely left out the borough of Staten Island...lol
