I have been looking into getting a fountain pen, and am so glad I came across your video. Thank you for detailing your collection, what you have so far found to work for you, and your reasoning for having them. I cannot wait to re-watch this and take note of a fine nib and a medium nib I would like to start with. Again thank you! ✨️🖤

I loved how you weaved a story of pens that come and pens that go. It's very relatable! I've gone down that road of collecting multiples of the same pen in different colors (Esterbrook, Benu, TWSBI, etc), but have since realized that I only need one pen body and interchangeable nibs, so I sold the extra pens, and found contentment a bit. There are only a couple of pen brands that I really do want to collect a few different color bodies of, like the Kaweco Art Sport line. I go gaga for those. But they are spendy, so I've had to limit myself even there.

Thank you, Sunny! I've always been more minimalist when it comes to my hobbies! But I am also early on enough in my pen journey that I wanted to save money to try new pens rather than spend money on different colours of the same model. Who knows what could happen 6 to 12 months from now? And the when you find a model you like, why not get the colours you love? :)

I really enjoyed this! Thanks for giving such a detailed account! I'm proud to say that it has been 12 days since I last purchased a pen! I'm hoping to hold strong for a while longer yet. I feel pretty content with my lineup but I still haven't TRIED any Twsbis, Lamys, Sailors or Pelikans nor any filling system other than Cartridge/Converter and Lever Fill. So probably more experimentation is in my future, but hopefully not for a while. I must admit that White/Tortoise M400 is speaking my language. And there's probably another (flexier) vintage flex in my future someday too. But for now my Fountain Pen Revolution UltraFlex and I are getting along (again) so I'll leave it there for now.

God Bless you! There was an old pen restorer and dealer in Singapore who once worked as a Salesman for Parker pen company after the second world war - from the late 1940s to the 1980s. His company was also the local distributor for the legendary Parker Quink ink for almost five decades. I used to enjoy self-prepared warm ginger milk tea with him. He is no longer alive today (God bless his soul). He could use his magical fingers alone to adjust pen nibs. According to him, the Pelikan 140, which retailed at S$13.50 in the 1950s (equivalent to about US$6.00) is among Parker's great pens. The 14-carat gold nib alone is worth the money. I bought one in 1978 for S$70 and I still use it for my daily writing. I became so much interested in fountain pens only in the 1980s when I was thirty years of age. I still own a few vintage Parker vacumatic that were all bought from old pen stores in the late 1980s. I wish you all the best in your hobby.

I started with the disposable pilot fountain pens that came in a pack of 6. Loved them. However, because I am a serial researcher, I have watched tons of videos about fountain pens but have yet to buy any individual pens. I honestly think my first pens will be the Vanishing point, TWSBI Eco, Kaweco sport and something fancy from Jetpens lol because I can't just buy 1 at a time either lol. Don't even get me started on the frustration of allllll the inks I want. The slope is so slippery...

Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous collection and experiences. I can definitely relate to your rabbit hole story. I started with kawecos and hated the extra fine and fines, but I loved the mediums and broads. I purchased a bunch of them because I loved playing around with different inks and the kaweco price is just too easy to buy. I probably should have bought a gold nib instead of 8 kawecos. At least I was able to figure out my ink preferences and I don't mind bringing them along with me. I rather loose 25-20 bucks than 200+ 😂 I finally got my first gold nib, a sailor, and was so hooked I purchased another gold nib, the 3776, within four days and am trying to restrain from ordering another brand! 😅 I'm still on my quest to find the perfect fine, medium and broad gold nib. Like you I feel like I don't need or want repeats, I think they should all be unique - lesson learned from the kawecos, lol

I can see why so many people like the Kaweco Sports, especially for the colours and price point. If I had loved my first Kaweco, my pen collection may look so different today! But as soon as I purchased my first gold nib, I thought the same… I want to save my money for one really nice pen instead of 10 different pens. But I recently tried a Jinhao (gift for my husband) and a Platinum Plaisir (gift for my dad) and was impressed! Amazing how our perspectives can change.

I love this and your currently inked series. I have a kakuno (EF) and pilot metropolitan (f). I prefer the kakuno due to it's lightness and barrel and line. I am considering a vanishing point though. Any thoughts on how it compares to the kakuno with barrel size and nib size? They're so expensive but I like the idea of it being retractable and refillable because I love to journal and I write a lot lol. Any advice? I'd appreciate it! If it matters, I use Stalogy, Hobonochi, and Michaels Artist Loft journals the most lately.
@KarynaLovesToPlan
@KarynaLovesToPlan 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! As for the Kakuno vs Pilot VP, it is heavier and wider in diameter than the Kakuno. I love my Vanishing Point for those reasons. If you want retractable but slightly lighter and narrower than the VP, the Decimo could be a good solution. That was my first gold nib! Another great first gold nib would be the Pilot E95S - a bit narrower than the Kakuno but a good option for your first gold nib. Another good Pilot gold nib option is the Custom 74. It can take the CON70 converter which holds a lot more ink than the CON40. Hope this is helpful!

Very nice collection, but I don't see any Italian pens. There is a whole world of beautiful Italian resins. The M800 is a big step up from the M600. I feel the M400 and M600 are in one group, and the M800 and 1000 are in a different group. They are larger, girthier, 18C nibs, and have brass pistons so the weight is very noticeable (good noticeable). Have fun with your collection, and look forward to seeing how it grows in the future.

@@KarynaLovesToPlan Was it you, I once said, "I think you'll like Pelikan."? I think it was you. So I take it, you love your flock of Pelikans? You may like the M800. You might want to see if you can hold one first. I'd definitely recommend you try an M1000 first before a buy. Beware of Leonardo. They make excellent pens, but they drop a new pen like every month, and one can seriously lose their bearings getting caught up in all the releases. I'm of two minds with Visconti. 2 pen companies I would seriously recommend are OMAS, and Scribo, but they are expensive. OMAS is out of business, and Scribo are former OMAS people. Scribo can run you $CDN 700 from European sites, and $CDN 900 from Laywines in Toronto, for the Feel. But man are they exquisite.

@@KarynaLovesToPlan I had to report back after taking out the ink, cleaning the pen and then replacing it with a wetter ink. The pen writes so much better. In my heart I feel like it may have been the ink (Sailor Yurameku Seki), which is beautiful but seems to be a slow flowing ink compared to the Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Guri, which isn't as pretty but flows so easily out of the pen. Before the sailor ink I had J Herbin Rouille D'ancre (which is way prettier but also so much drier/slow flowing). I was so close to writing the company that I bought it from. But I'm glad I found a work around because it moves much better over the paper with minimal feedback. Now, I just need to find a shade of those Pilot Iroshizuku Inks that I like better than Yama-guri (dark chestnut brown). Thanks for your help and I'm about to do a deep dive through your ink videos to see if I can find something I like. :)

Thanks for watching, Michael! And that's such a tough question, because I enjoy all the pens for different reasons. I love my Pilot Vanishing Point because of the weight and the width and that smooth Pilot gold nib. I love my Pelikan M400 (I haven't had a chance to properly write with the M600 yet so not able to add it to this list yet!) because of the wet and broad EF nib and just how beautiful it looks. And I do love the Sailor Pro Gear - I love the white rose gold, and it is a lovely writer overall. The Sailor 21k FM nib is actually a wetter writer than the 14k nib and a bit softer, too. I really like that one. :)
