Just went a Rebecca pilgrimage... it was so great to be with people who'd read this book. Highly recommend! It's very suspenseful & beautifully-written. And then there's the backstory about Dame Daphne as well, fascinating. The best of the movies/mini-series about it (in my opinion) is the 1940 Hitchcock film. But later versions with Diana Rigg & Kristin Scott Thomas are both so fun to watch as Mrs. Danvers.

Always nice to see a new Books and Quills video. I will have to watch out for that Dutch book about Mary Shelley when it is published in English. Have you ever seen the 1987 film Gothic, which is about Mary Shelley writing Frankenstein as part of a competition while staying in Switzerland? It is very over-the-top, as were most of Ken Russell's films, with a great cast. I loved it!

Love it when a new video from you pops up in my inbox 🥰! My autumn tbr is getting out of hand, but I’d primarily like to finish Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell this month and also start If we were villains and Mrs Death Misses Death 🍂

I didn’t know you lived in St. Albans!!! I went to London, hung out with a BookTuber in Norwich, and then she took me to St. Albans to meet up with another friend of ours who took me to Cardiff with her :) I have a vlog of my day there but I should have asked you for tips!

villette really is a bit of a drag... tenant of wildfell hall is super slow in the beginning but picks up quickly and is amazing. i'd like to hear your thoughts on rebecca now, it's one of my all-time favourites, there are soooo many layers to this book - the netflix adaptation is a joke lol don't worry, all you got from that was the main storyline nothing about the sub-plots and undertones of the story.

I read Melmoth a few years ago and while I made it through, it was bleeeeeak AF. So depressing and it put me in a book slump :( I would recommend The Essex Serpent, which I loved, over Melmoth hands down.
