Good job introducing your friends and family to BABYMETAL - and good choice of song and performance. As you said, it is one of their early songs. It is about a girl going to her first metal concert on her 15th birthday (which is an important 'coming of age' date in Japan), so it is also about moving on to the next stage of her life, things will never be the same but she'll remember this special night for ever. They were aged 16, 14 and 14 here and were the youngest average age female band to headline the Budokan, a very prestigious venue that you only get to play by invitation (The Beatles were the first band to play there). BABYMETAL sold it out two nights running (Red Night and Black Night). This was Black Night, the second of their two shows - you can tell because of the safety railings around the stage. They weren't there for the first night and during 'Headbanger' Yui fell off the stage (6-8 feet onto concrete - no joke when you're less than 5 feet tall yourself) and Su and Moa completed the song without her without missing a beat. Yui was back on stage and smiling for the next song (the last of the night) where Moa slipped and fell during a sprint round the stage at the start of the song. She barely stayed on the stage but twisted her knee or ankle and was clearly in pain for the rest of the song - but again she did all the choreo including jumping and pretend fighting with Yui. As you saw here, they were both fine the next night, leading the crowd and getting everybody involved.

This is their best song imo. The version from Makuhari Messe is even better.

Yeah i like that one better too. They cut the crowd interaction in the video too. It drags on a bit in this one. To have that AND the long gong sequence is a little much. Plus i think it's simply better.

If I remember correctly the are 16 and 14 here. Su is 2 years older the Moa and Yui. I got to see them on their 2019 US tour. Definitly an amazing experiance.

Su is exactly 18 months older than Yui, and Yui is exactly two weeks older than Moa. :D I think that year-and-a-half age stagger between Su and MoiMoi throws a lot people off when figuring out their ages during a performance, especially with Su being born so late in the year (Dec 20), while Yui and Moa were summer babies.

One thing that you didn't touch upon in the video was the venue. The Nippon Budokan or simply Budokan enjoys legendary status in Japan. It has hosted many of the greatest acts in the history of modern music.... Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Kiss, Judas Priest, Fleetwood Mac, Diana Ross, Prince.... the list goes on and on. It was originally built for the 1964 Olympics as the arena for the judo competitions. It is still used as a martial arts sports arena but it has evolved into possibly the most famous and prestigious concert arena in Japan. At this concert the girls of Babymetal became the youngest ever artists to headline the Budokan... an extraordinary achievement for such young girls. At such a young age it would not have been surprising if they had been overwhelmed by the occasion but, as is clearly apparent, they knocked it out of the park and put on a hell of a show despite a few hiccups. The show extended over two consecutive nights. The night before this one they had an accident when Yui fell some ten feet or so off the stage and they had to finish the song without her. (She managed to get back on stage and finish the show like a true professional in spite of hurting herself) For this second show they erected safety barriers around the stage. Even so they nearly had another incident when Su, at the end of this song, managed to drop her microphone and it was only saved from rolling off the stage by Moa's quick thinking.
@martinmetal7481
@martinmetal7481 4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if she passed the microphone to Moa as she had to bang the gong . Su only lets go of that microphone on only a few occasions . Yui and Moa's for this song on there 16th birthday at least i think it was 16 and Moa's 20th. Think Su had a microphone instead of a rattle when she was a baby .🤟🤣🤟
@michaelafrancis1361
@michaelafrancis1361 4 жыл бұрын
@@martinmetal7481 Well possibly but If you watch the end of the song you can clearly see the microphone rolling off the stage before Moa reaches out and grabs it. It's possible of course that Su had already passed it off to Moa to free her hands for banging the gong and it was Moa who dropped it. Talking of the gong, did you see the name "Zildjian" on it? The Avedis Zildjian company from Massachusetts is the oldest manufacturer of musical instruments in the world having made cymbals and drumsticks since 1618 in Constantinople, later Istanbu,l in Turkey. The family, being Armenian, fled persecution in 1910 and settled in Boston Massachusettswhere they continue to make cymbals and drumsticks to this day. It is a fascinating story. The original Avedis Zildjian was an alchemist who was trying to turn base metals into gold. He didn't succeed but he did produce an alloy of tin, copper and silver that could be hammered into sheets for making cymbals that didn't shatter when struck. The firm still uses the original alloy recipe he discovered.

Great one, thanks! And good job keeping on "corrupting" your friends and family hehe... As a matter of fact, it's a luxury to get introduced to BABYMETAL with a great live performance of "Headbanger!" like this or the one from Legend 1997 (Budokan's stage is more impressive, thought). Grington300 has already told you about the accidents happened during "Red Night" performance and that just makes you respect them even more. Problem is that I'm not able to watch the Red Night DVDeLorean =)

The beginning song I love to hear!The shake the but probably would have to fast forward the scene. Several seconds to the light horizon the most impressive skillful song of babymetal perfectly performance skills of abilities to greatness. Then I would stay stop the moment. Before next shake the but scene. Because it's to risqué of improper naughty words! But I love rest of the grand rising *perfectly performance skillful songs ever made. My great information for today. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.

Somewhere around 5% of spoken Japanese is actually English, referenced as Japanglish (here in the west). After WW2 as Japan opened up to other cultures a blending began. So thats why sometimes it sounds like random english words are tossed into the middle of the fully Japanese lyrical songs.

They aren't the most popular band in Japan (Not even close to it aside from the metal genre. Japan ist the second biggest music market in the world, by the way.). But they definitely are the most popular Japanese band in the west!

Of course there are Pop and Idol groups that are crazy popular, but BABYMETAL still managed to sell out their last few arena shows in Japan in under an hour. So even though they're not the MOST popular group in Japan, they have carved out a pretty successful niche. The best selling group of all time Japan is B'z. B'z guitarist Tak Matsumoto was a guest artist on the BABYMETAL song 'DA DA DANCE'.
