Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald wrote this after Kenny's father had a serious heart problem and didn't know what to do about it. So they came up with this song about a man who is suffering terrible pain, looks to find his miracle and needs to "stand up and fight."

Kenny Loggins recorded a duet with Stevie Nicks titled "Whenever I Call You Friend. It was late 70s and Loggins and Messina had gone separate ways. Stevie was just starting to think of branching out away from Fleetwood Mac . So she recommended a duet with Kenny Loggins and another one with a guy named John Stewart called "Gold" .

Kenny Loggins (along with Loggins &. Messina) had more hits in the 70s and early 80s than the later 80s. His 2 Grammys were won in 1980 and 1981. Not at all "underrated". He was making award winning music way before his movie soundtrack era.

Michael Mcdonald did backup vocals for SO many artists that they actually made a hilarious skit for him when he was on Saturday Night Live where he was in a limo, would pull up in front of a music studio, sing a riff, run back out, jump back into the limo, and go on to the next studio and do the exact same riff. I don't remember how many times this repeated, but I definitely remember laughing my butt off!

You're talking about Rick Moranis on SCTV, not SNL. Rick (as Michael) drives himself, and it's just one studio, where he gets into an argument, presumably over his pay, and has to keep running back to the mic to sing BGVs on Christopher Cross' _Ride Like the Wind._

Please pick as your next K.L. song "Return to Pooh Corner" which he released in the mid 1990s. Kenny Loggins wrote the original "House on Pooh Corner" when he was 17 years old. Years later, as a dad, he took the original and added a final verse, calling it " Return to Pooh Corner", making it perfect in my opinion. It is one of my all time favorite songs across all genres.

In the day (1979), Kenny had lots of girls fanning themselves! 😍 There's a sultry grit that comes out in him when he digs down and gets into a song that is absolutely, irresistibly fan-worthy. And backed by the cool, blue-eyed soul of Mr. Michael McDonald himself, this song was fire and ice! Top it off with a great message--This is it; get up and fight the good fight, regardless of the odds--and you have a classic! Thanks for the great memories! For all of us University of Louisville Cardinal basketball fans old enough to remember, this song brings back some extra special memories. Besides it just being a great song it was used for the championship game back in 1980 when Louisville won their first championship. It would be several years later before they began using "One Shining Moment". As others have pointed out Michael McDonald is singing background vocals. While not exactly a duet, Kenny did duets with a lot of great artists. You might want to check out "House at Pooh Corner" he did with Amy Grant, "Whenever I Call You Friend" with Stevie Nicks, and "Don't Fight It" with Journey's Steve Perry.

I can't wait until y'all hit his debut solo album, "Celebrate Me Home". So many amazing tracks, not the least of which is the title track. Also? "Whenever I Call You Friend" is a duet with Stevie Nicks that y'all will absolutely love!

Kenny really established himself as an original artist when this song was released back in 79. Really a R&B and Soul influenced sound in his music.

Nice. In 1982, we marched in our high school baccalaureate ceremony to This is It which was a fav of mine at the time. I was very surprised and elated. I'm a huge Kenny Loggins fan. Love Michael McDonald as well. Might I suggest Kenny's Sweet Reunion? Also, Michael McDonald did a couple of Motown cover CD collections- definitely worth a look as well. Thank you for the journey down memory lane.

I had to put this random thought out here for the two of you. You keep saying that you were born in the wrong generation because of the music that you keep learning about that you never heard before. You're doing a good thing by making sure that this music is not going to be lost by carrying it into the future generations. So no you weren't born in the wrong generation. Keep doing what you're doing and keep this music alive!!! You two are very awesome. Love you guys and your channel!!!

this song was used at the intro to the 1980 NCAA Finals between Louisville and UCLA. EVERY TIME i hear this song i think of that intro... if you listen closely with your eyes closed, at the beginning, he sounds like Michael Jackson.

Saw Kenny Loggins live a few times solo and with Jim Messina. He was doing an interview at a radio station when he was in town for a concert, so I went there and waited in the lobby and he came out of the elevator and I got an autograph for my wife. She was all excited. He has a great voice and was great in concert.

The #1 hype song of the late 70s/early 80s. Any type of inspirational or highlight video of that time had this song or some version of it. This song makes me look back and smile. I don't have a lot of sharp memories of the times I had before I was 9 years old, but this song is definitely one them, because I remember everyone's reaction every time it came on.
