Ha! funny. I watched your skate molding with hot gun video because I bought a pair of Imperial jade 4x80 in 42 cause there was no 43. I decided to risk it and indeed the skates were quite narrow for my foot. Definitely not the right size. What I did was to use your technique and expand the toe box. I really had to go to town with them if I wanted to keep them so I did the molding around 8 times until there was enough room. Part of the fact I did it so many times is that I didn't want to make the plastic shiny so I always went carefully. Now I just love those skates. With red laces and red LED wheels they simply look stunning. The Imperial boot/cuff is super stiff (you can tell is plastic and fiberglass), I really love it, definitely one of my fav setups.

I'm 61 but in better shape than most people half my age. Anyway I skated a lot in the mid 90's and got to really love it. I don't know what happened but inline skating died off in Canada and I guess in most other places too. It was huge in the 90's. I drove tour buses and every city I went to had tons of skaters. Y2K came and skating died off. I stopped too. I'd always kept my Bauer carbon hockey skate and I brought them with me when I moved to Taiwan in 2007. Long story short, I got back into skating a couple of years ago here in Taiwan...I guess all the youtube videos got my interest up again. I'm like you...I have bought about 6 pairs of modern skates. I even bought recently the Aeon 80's I want to get into aggressive skating and do some grinds and slides. I just haven't worked up the courage to jump on a rail yet. You look to be doing quite well. I was looking to see if you had a video on grinding...but I didn't see one. What do you think of putting one together? Well...I've talked enough for now. Keep skating. Still love it just as much at 61 as I did back in the day. Take care.

I experienced similar pain in my Twister X skates and so switched to the Rollerblade RB 80 PRO X. Seems to be the same skate but a wider boot. It is a great skate that is so much more comfortable for me than the Twister X, while still retaining the speed and control. Highly recommended.

Great video. I've not been skating that long but have tried a few pairs already. I recently got some High Light Carbon 310s and absolutely love them, they fit so much better than anything else I've tried. They also have the wheels set up differently to other 310s - The back and middle wheels are close together and the front one if further away. Also have some FR1s which I had no issues with other than they are a bit big due to the shared shell size (45-47) and have tried Rollerblade Maxxum Edge 125 and Powerslide NEXT Pro 110 (both too narrow).

@@whittyskater From everything I read they are supposed to be. They are slightly wider than a lot of Powerslide skates but not as wide as Seba. The version I bought come with the new SPC liners. The liner seems pretty hard when you get them but from what I read they soften up when heat molded. They also have trinity mounting which is nice. I really liked them just don't work for my feet unfortunately. I really wanted some Wizard skates but just couldn't justify the cost - about 3 times as much as the HL carbons I bought.

Thanks for watching. I guess the FR1s will be a very different fit to a speed skate. I think you will just have to play around with the various buckles. They are all quite adjustable. For example you can move the cuff bolt into 4 different positions to either move it up or down a bit or forward and backward. I think you might just have to do a bit of trial and error. Good luck!

Thanks for your video showing your collection. As a new skater it helps out a lot. I’m curious if you ever had to adjust your frames to get a level foot placement. I just purchased a pair of FR1s and my ankles rolls out. This would mean I’d have to move my frame toward the outside edge. It helps somewhat but I’m wondering if it just not the right shaped boot for my foot.

so what did the heat-gun do for the boot? was it like a molding thing? I ask because i have tried 3 different roller-blade skates and have had no luck with them. (not when i was younger though i feel as though foot/skate technology has developed exponentially in the past 20 years) but simliar/chronic pain in my bottom left foot right above the inside arch with just about every boot from them ive tried & a few other brands. its possible it could be a form issue on my end. i believe anatomically my foot is not designed for the RB skates. i really lucked out getting my first serious pair after coming off aggressive skating in 2010 to 2015 purchasing my seba trix 2s. even the break in period was minimal to non existent and that is how i measure my foot to skate compatibility with boots. I was a little hesitant because of the price but they ended up being so comfortable i got another back up pair that I test with different tri frames. Comfort, Style, Design, & Performance it hits all marks.

Seba and FR are now two different brands but still belong to the same company Universkate SARL, based in Ivry-sur-Seine, France. Micro Skates has nothing to do with them. It's only a Chinese company which has replicated (illegally) some Seba models. If you want authentic inline skates focus on Seba or FR Skates and please, forget Micro. Another point, the Seba Highlight Carbon and the FR Igor are two different skates, including their respective price. If you can afford the Igor, go ahead, you won't be disappointed.

I really enjoy your videos. I'm in the process of buying new skates so your videos are helping a lot. I've tried on the RB Maxxum Edge 90 and Next 100. Both have pressure points at the ankle though. So before using a heat gun on the Rollerblade, I guess I should try Sebas as they're supposed to be comfortable. I wonder if the price difference between FR1 and FR3 is justified though. Also, I'm slightly concerned about the wheel size. I want something larger than 80mm because most trails around here have grainy, uneven surface. However I come from 72mm, so 110 seems huge. Plus, I'm used to having a break. I can do the t-stop but I don't nearly stop as fast. So it makes me feel a bit insecure. I'm not sure if a break can be mounted on the FR1 310 at least while I figure out other techniques.
@whittyskater
@whittyskater 4 жыл бұрын
Hope you find some skates that work for you. The FRs tend to fit a little wider and have a thicker liner so you shouldn't get any pressure points. Not sure about a brake for the 310s. Best to ask a skate shop about that.

@@whittyskater Thanks for the quick reply! Getting in touch with skate shops is not easy these days unfortunately ;) So I try to find information via other channels. Thoughts about FR1 vs FR3? @@celine8811 looking at the specs it seems the FR1 has 'better' frame and wheels for the most part. The FR3 though will still be great quality. I'd probanly go for FR3 to start out with. You can always upgrade the frame and wheels at a later date.

I started blading last year with some thriftstore salomon rec blades. Then I felt, I was gettin into this blading thing. Based on Whttyskater's comment on the FR1 310, i bought the FRX 310 (cheaper), loved them immediately and still rock them. Unfortunately I broke my arm in them last year.. You've got to be care with 'em big wheels - the height, instability and speed you get outta them could rec harm if you don't place your weight properly on them. I am still loving them though as they help me with the right skating technique when I transition to ice. Point to note about them: the frame is really short and if you are not careful, a little weight in the front will tip you over and if that speed is high (110mm), then you might be in for a bad day. But they are lovely to ride in.
