the sky is blue
the lake is great
why say "I won't"
why say I like saying "I ain't"
I gotta dog for a friend
I got BB gun dreams
gotta an uncle in the war
and a fort in the trees
and I walk where I wanna
I'm a boy on foot
think I'm big as an oak
I'm jus 'a sproutin my roots
uh huh
I know the folks
they all know me
can't all be like minded
but we can agree
leave the boy be
leave him with his bare feet
catching fishes for fun
ramping bikes in the street
I'm 'a headed home
where nothing needs fixing
but the breakfast cooking
in my momma's kitchen uh huh.
I gotta young boy's mind and it's crystal clear
I can see the whole world just standing here
It's a one street town, I gotta get out
but It won't be long and I'll be singing about
missing missing missing
missing missing missing
my little town
what's wrong momma?
everything's alright
they're outa Iraq
you can sleep at night
Oklahoma's a ways away
as far as tomorrow from today
and the rain comes down
and the grass grows green
life is a science that you just can't teach
uh huh
I gotta young boy's mind
and it's crystal clear
I can see the whole world
jus standing here
It's a one street town and I gotta get out
but it won't be long till I'm a singing about
missing missing missing
missing missing missing
my little town.

I wanna cry, man. I wish I could look back on my childhood with fondness more often, but there are a lot of things I didn't notice then that are so obvious now with hindsight. I felt happier then, but I was a lot worse off in reality, it makes it hard to wish I could go back.

Man this one's gotta be one of my favourites so far honestly. This one and See Arkansaw are unreal. Jesse's really showing himself as more than an angry protest songwriter and is really showing the well-lived artist within that made those protest songs so powerful.

Jesse continues to impress with every new video and song. And it's not just me...his view and subscriber numbers reveal there are fans all over of this particular style of songwriting. I see the same thread running from Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, John Prine, and Todd Snider to newcomers Abe Partridge and this young man. What they all have in common is that they are not blessed with a great singing voice, but possess a remarkable songwriting skill and strong charisma that, combined, makes them irresistible to watch. With Jesse, I'm impressed with both the volume of his output and the variety of subjects that he writes and sings about. I wish his website contained more info; especially on his tour schedule. I recently noticed that I missed a show by him at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA, on June 12th. I would have driven there (a five hour round trip) just to see him perform.

Beautiful. Reminds me of places I've lived in the back arse of beyond with one street or a crossroads, near a river have fond memories walking along in the woods with a loved one. Villages where the shop that used to be the centre of activity is now closed and there are just houses and farms bittersweet. I'm a townie but now I live near to the country so I can get out and can't see me moving to the centre of a big town.
